It has been recorded by many other artists: Kyle Minoque, Brenda Lee, Chris Spedding, Percy Sledge. Percy does a great old jazz version which I like. Boy George's version was produced by The Pet Shop Boys, which has their print all over it...but yes, Boy George took it to an untouchable level...and my favorite version, too.

I remember waiting to get out of school and Culture Club would be on the radio (before MP3 etc.). Do you really want to hurt me was playing. I loved CC, but freaked out when I saw them on MTV. Looking back 30 years, I am amazed as how trend setting and out of the box this band was and....is.... Gay stuff was not discussed or very public... but BG was questionable and the general public was not sure of him as he pushed the envelope. I am sure he was an influence on the young but that is not what this is about. BG did his own thing and that is what it is all about.. One thing is for sure, BG was the anchor to the band and there are not many lead singers this talented. Some of the other great lead singers are in other bands of different genres - Journey, Kiss, Bon Jovi, Etc..... Hats off to all the lead singers that wrote and truly sang memorable songs that hit home to a variety diverse group of people.

As a music critic, this vocal performance, for me, is one of the most hauntingly beautiful in modern music. A technically, very difficult song to sing and George sings it effortlessly. Absolutely beautiful.

I remember waiting to get out of school and Culture Club would be on the radio (before MP3 etc.). Do you really want to hurt me was playing. I loved CC, but freaked out when I saw them on MTV. Looking back 30 years, I am amazed as how trend setting and out of the box this band was and....is.... Gay stuff was not discussed or very public... but BG was questionable and the general public was not sure of him as he pushed the envelope. I am sure he was an influence on the young but that is not what this is about. BG did his own thing and that is what it is all about.. One thing is for sure, BG was the anchor to the band and there are not many lead singers this talented. Some of the other great lead singers are in other bands of different genres - Journey, Kiss, Bon Jovi, Etc..... Hats off to all the lead singers that wrote and truly sang memorable songs that hit home to a variety diverse group of people.
Boy george is an authentic artist with an amazing voice. It's sad that he had never been appreciated by tabloids in UK
