@dominicportelli1100 She absolutely did. It fit with her own self-deprecating humor (I think he knew the kind of jokes Joan made; he was playing more than insulting her) and she cheerfully replied, "Never!"
But after all these 40 odd years, I never noticed he lisps. I noticed it in a video he did recently and thought it was because he got his teeth fixed, but no. He's always lisped. That alone bothers me, cos it's so easy to correct. I wonder why he never did?
He is intelligent, but that's not what carries the interviews. I csn name 100 intelligent people who are a boring interview and as many great interviews who are dim. What makes his interviews is he's blunt.

Off the charts brave. Bowie never had the massive profile this guy had and was mostly an alternative star. George took this image and his music right into the mainstream.

I just saw them last night. I was a young adult in the 80s and knew their music, but really didn't know him. He is a wise, warm, intelligent, compassionate, witty, accepting, and vulnerable person. He and his entourage embody diversity and acceptance without having to scream it or shove it at people. A beautiful human being. Hopefully going to do a Vegas residency.
Say what you want about him but he was super articulate, mature and quick-witted compared to this era's 22 year olds - who are the intellectual equivalent of that era's 14 year olds.
Great interview....and to see a very young Jerry Seinfeld sitting there unnoticed was a shock. Joan opened many doors with her one-of-a-kind style of interviewing. She is missed.
It's so crazy watching the celebrities you've grown up watching/listening to on old episodes of late night. Boy George, Jerry Seinfeld, and Joan Rivers in the same room. *mind blown

Had to find this interview because I just found all my cassettes. I recorded all his interviews, appearances, and hit charts back then when I was a teenager. This was one of my recordings!
