I was a stage hand in the US. Worked the Rod Stewart show. After the show, we were breaking things down. The shop stewart told us to stop what we were doing and line up in the hallway by the dressing room. Something like this had never happened before. So we were all standing there, wondering what was going on, and Rod Stewart came out of the dressing room. He shook the hand of every stage hand and personally thanked each of us for helping to put on the show. Got to his limo and turned around and gave us all a big wave and another "thanks!' . I worked a lot of shows and he is the only celebrity who gave any recognition to the local crew. And the people who traveled with his show were mostly friends he knew before he was famous, they spent most of the show under the stage, drinking Guiness out of a can. So they got to tour the USA and got paid for it. Thank you, Rod Stewart for being a good human being.

Legacy act is often used in the media as a term of derision yet I don’t think there is any shame in being an artist or band still able to sell out arena tours based on a string of albums and hits you made 40 years or more ago. It means that music became part of a collective consciousness at the time and still brings joy to even new generations of fans today who want to see the original artists performing live.

We took Boy George under our wing back in the 80's. He put out some great hits and nobody was forced to profess their never ending love for gays. Its about class not color or gender.
Yeah. Not everyone did. He faced a lot of boycotts and threats. Also, most people just looked at it as another crazy celebrity. Part of his act and would NOT have welcomed George and his partner into their home. And nobody wants you to profess your "never ending love for gays." Interesting that you liking Boy George music didn't turn you gay. I mean. That's the theory right? If you watch someone in drag or listen to their music you are going to be gay!

Rod blew us away with these bee hive mink things on his shoulders and Beck playing a Les Paul at the time. Beck had this big turquoise bracelet on that I'd seen him wear recently before he passed . God bless him and Rod and Keith Relf . When Rod and the Jeff beck group played the Shrine Ronnie Wood played bass. What a show !

Boy George is such a tremendous talent. As recognized as he is, I still think it’s underrated.
Same. His voice is amazing and he is so unique 💫💫very handsome too.
Yes he is but whats with the f.......king HATS´?
He was huge in the 80's here in the UK and in America .😘
and he looks amazing for 61. Hopefully not too many drugs along the way!!
Great voice.
The late 60's to mid 80's was the BEST music in history. Most "music" today is shit and isn't music.
You’re just old.
TRUE!
90's was top too
It warms my heart to know that Boy George survived it all
Yes. Was not looking good for him many years back, but look at him now. What a gem.
Survived what ?

We've lost so many amazing talents, unfortunately.
Life long Rod Stewart fan. Wonderful friends surprised me with tickets to see him live September 2022 here in Tampa, Fl, and it was one of the BEST highlights of my entire life! Honestly! Fantastic concert!❤

Me too. Love Boy George and Rod is a top bloke.
2 legends from different times.
Leg-ends … 😾
80's had some really great music and talented artists!! Rod is a legend
Actually, Rod Stewart’s best work was in the early 70s.
Oh yes. The music today sucks so bad. There will never be music like the 70s, 80s, and 90s ever again. The age of the bands, were you could here every instrument actually being played, and not computerized instruments. Greatest days ever!
Two Legendary rockers, who are timeless. Much respect and love 🫶
I’m a 70 year old rocker. I get it and am a die hard rocker . Thank you so much for your response. Respectfully and much Love 💖
I love seeing gay blokes and straight blokes being matey.Just being themselves. Two legends.

A giant of music right there Rob and Boy a great stylist.

Phyllis (Rod) and Sharon (Elton) were funny together.
Two great legends together Brilliant interview ❤
Yes, Charlie Stayt is quite remarkable. Who are the other two chummy-bums? They seem to know each other …
Thanks for uploading... beautiful to see these two together
I’m so sorry you lost your mother. God bless you both. Thank you, Mr. Stewart for writing the song and helping so many man to come out.
From South Africa, wanted to say thanks to these great guys for all the music over the years. Both so talented and absolute showman, fantastic. Great interview as well. Johan Marais Johannesburg South Africa
What a great interview!
So relaxed and natural
All 3 showed honest respect and appreciation for each other
Charlie is the perfect interviewer bringing out the best in Rod and George
Only one criticism
The interview was way too short
More please 🙏🏻
It was heavily edited and it showed. Need to show all of it.
Agreed. Good interviewer, good interview.
I saw the live interview with both Rod & George on the bbc. They were getting on so well a few words not suitable for daytime TV fell in to the conversation. I thought it was hilarious. We need more sedated anarchy every now & again!
@@softshallow7435 This isn't a BBC YT channel. This channel has just scraped the content. iPlayer has the full interview if you want to see it.
@@rsmith7912 Anarchy, yes! Sedation, NO!
We took Boy George under our wing back in the 80's. He put out some great hits and nobody was forced to profess their never ending love for gays. Its about class not color or gender.
“Back in the 80’s”. Yes everything was so much better in the 80s wasn’t it 😂. Just in case you hadn’t noticed the 80s ended 12 YEARS AGO!
@@DCGuy1997
No.
Why are you making things up? You obviously were not in the UK in the 80's. It very much was about class, colour and sexuality.

I would love to hear them do Handbags And Gladrags. Love that song.
So sorry to hear about George's mother passing away😢. I know he adored her.
Goddamit... I really luv these two geniuses!!!
Too many good memories from the epic music they gifted us with.
How Rod is treating George is amazing. He isn’t going to let him be the warm up. He clearly has some great ideas.
Sailing was one of my Dad's favourite songs and for many years after he passed I could not listen to it, but it was on the radio the other day and I found myself singing like my Dad did with such lovely memories and Culture Club from the start, loved them, loved George. The two together, wow. In music you can be years apart and contemporaries all at the same time, talent welcomes talent. Good luck guys.
Your dad had great taste. My favorite too. Beautiful song.
I’m 70 year old grandmother and came across the ‘Ark Royal’ version of ‘Sailing’ recently on RUclips and it filled me with so much emotion. I don’t know what these two think of that situation, a warship or whatever , I’m a Brit living in Australia for the last 40+ years but it overwhelmed me to tears. Such brilliant nostalgic memories of the 70’s and 80’s with Rod and Boy George so flamboyant and engaging. Great times . 🙏🏼❤️🔥
@@ohdannyboythepipes4962 Maybe it's because it seems more hopeful to say "passed" to the other side of the veil and less final. Or possibly a gentle reference to heaven. You know, that bright light at the end of the tunnel.
Memorial Day weekend l watched the first 2 hours of MTV from when MTV made its debut . Sailing came on, and l sobbed . I had totally forgotten about that song .
@@MoiAussie1I am ex RAN and I have two copies of the HMS Ark Royal LP it was a great favourite in the Gunroom back in the late 70s. The crew singing it just took it to the next level. My father wanted the Ark Royal version of You’ll Never Walk Alone played at his funeral. He was a 39er in WWII and to hear the Ship’s crew singing that song pretty much broke even the most stoic of us.
Two of the most incredible song writers and performers I’ve ever heard man Rod Stewart is in a league of his own man he truly is he spends so many different decades it’s absolutely insane and when I say that I mean he hit top 10 songs if not number ones

2 Legends, very different and great music
While Rod is talking, George is sitting there wondering what Rod would look like......... chained to his bedroom wall.🤣
I’m constantly amazed at how people still believe that .. when in reality there was no handcuffs no basement. Makes for interesting story though.... I guess it’s true people really do believe tabloid headlines instead of actually researching it themselves.... meanwhile the truth & court documents are all public...l
Rod was my favourite singer for... ages... so many memories ! Two concerts in Paris.

THANK YOU THIS INTERVIEW! REALLY FUN AND INTERESTING TO HEAR FROM TWO EXTREMELY TALENTED, SUCCESSFUL MUSIC ARTISTS WHO PARTICPATED IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IN THE 1970'S. I am a 70's kid and it was a very different time. A LOT of great music came out of the 1970's--STILL MY FAVORITE DECADE OF MUSIC! Nice to see Boy George again . . . My husband and I just saw Rod Stewart in Las Vegas in May. His show was AWESOME! SO MUCH ENERGY! He shared the stage with EVERYONE else on stage . . . He gave them each a nice chance to show off their talents. It was so great to see that he is not arrogant and just about himself, his talent, his music, etc. He seems so THANKFUL, GIVING, AND SO DOWN TO EARTH . . . A REALLY GREAT GUY TRULY! I LOVE HIS WARDROBE AND HIS SHOES--CLASSY FUN STYLE!

Great interview, seventies were the best for sure. I used to work with someone that was a big Rod Stewart fan and I didn't feel the same way, however, she convinced me to go and see him live with her. She bought the tickets and I didn't regret it, it was an amazing evening and became a fan after that concert. I also saw Tina Turner in concert, another amazing musical experience/

Rod Stewart seems ageless when all these other singers are passing he just keeps on going and he looks great, I hope I look that good when I'm 78!
........and he has a lovely down- to- earth- supportive wife who has kept his head in the right place and his feet on the ground" Thanks so much to Penny and ALL the great work you do for The Met.
I met Rod at the Shrine Auditorium, standing behind the stage waiting to go on with Jeff Beck and we had a nice chat .I told him about Beck being late to the T.V. show while the rest of the band zoomed by us outside crammed into a little Nash Rambler with their equipment and feet up against the windows .This was the Yardbirds and I stood with my hands on the stage.
Love these 2 together. Wish they were touring together in the US. But I do already have my tickets for Culture Club, Howard Jones, and Berlin. That will be a fabulous show!
Completely charming. From 82 - 84, Culture Club put out hit after hit in very quick succession. In America, they were the first band since the Beatles to have 3 top 10 hits from a debut album. A record that stood for 20 years!
They had another 3 top 10 hits in the USA with their second album too 🤯
It seems hard to imagine that could happen 40 years ago.
Just love the pure freedom of age and experience, no establishment will ever dim the fabulous ability these two guys have held for decades.
Rod the mod, he’s still the coolest, a great singer

Two great artists and not above their station like most stars, wishing them all the best for the tour I will try and get some tickets
Rod..... Use to play football In North London . Most of the players are long gone or not as well /fit as Rod. One of them had a serious illness and Rod heard about it . They had not talked in years . Rod took the matter up himself and the guy was put into a top private hospital and world class consultants/surgeons saved the guys legs (I believe ) . The Jokes about him been "Tight fisted" are so untrue. The guy is well know for donating money to little charities etc
Rod was born in England hence the generosity?
he used his own money to resurface the road near his house in Sheering lower road , visited a lady in care home where my wife works when the lady was 100
I used to play with Rod. Went to the pub after the game. Never saw Rod ever buy someone. a drink. Did see him browed money £5 from his brother bobby.

The killing of Georgie simply MUST be officially released by Rod and George. What a pairing for a legendary song 👍
My mother took me to a Rod Stewart concert here in Sweden around the year 1985 or 86 when I was 11 or 12 years old. I was totally hookt after that. Listened to a cassette tape with Rod's greatest hits every waking hours when I was at home or on my walk man freestyle at school. I think I drove my mom a bit mad. And I remember dancing and singing in the school yard loudly and proudly :"If you want my body and you think I'm sexy, Come on, sugar, tell me so"....
The grown-ups smiled a bit embraced and wondered if I knew what I actually sang.....and yes...yes I certainly did! 😂😂😂
