  • In this episode we attempt to start up the v8 sidevalve ford petrol engine. It had been sitting under a tree unprotected for 19 years and possibly not run for 30 years? We recovered it and now it’s time to try it out. We will go through the fuel and ignition system and talk about this engine. Come along and see what happens here!

It is 50/50 , the excitement , the struggle and that crazy good feeling if it fires. it is a joy everyone should experience.

    Nice after market exhaust manifolds. As you probably know,the original cast iron ones were single outlet and pretty small. The Original 6 volt starter(and coil) will handle 12 volts easily. In my younger days we would even hook up a pair of batteries to give 24 volts to really spin over a sick flattie. I'd say the oiliness on the plugs is because someone had done what we used to do,get the engine running then pour oil down the carb until it stalled. This stopped the rings sticking and the valves seizing in the block.
    I worked for a guy almost 50 years ago who had a collection of old Army trucks ,Fords,Chevies and GMC's. We used to be able to get parts from GT Gillies in New Zealand who had bought up hundreds of trucks and jeeps left behind by the Americans after WW2. I heard recently there were still a lot of parts left but were all scrapped .

    • @stevesplacedownunder
      @stevesplacedownunder  Год назад

      Hi mate glad you liked it. They are home made from steam pipe those manifolds. Sounds really good out of them actually. Yes all my old 6 volt tractors handle 12 volts on the starter easily. He must of run oil in it before storing it yes because it spun over very easily after sitting for that long where it was.
      It’s hard to hear all this stuff was scraped. I understand different circumstances but still sad. That’s where auctions are good if the right people by them. Great to hear from you mate. Great comment
