Thank you to the lady who told the story of equine-assisted trauma therapy. I didn't connect my constant irritation at being in a human body with childhood trauma until I burst into tears at this story.

Joining in from Ohio. I wanted to comment on the question from the person who asked how to know what medications may help. They can now do cheek swabs and test which psychotropic drugs work with your DNA.

If you click on “live chat” beside the dislike button and keep that open while watching the video questions pop up while they were submitted in real time during the recording. I hope that helps

Hi I noticed that someone spoke about trauma informed 12 step meetings? Does anybody have anymore information about this and how/if I could attend? 🙏 Thank you

I’m wondering if the panel could address releasing body memories through EMDR. Do these continue to come out after an EMDR session or is it mainly in the session itself?

Yes, I have been doing EMDR and you can have lots of memories the days after but they don't come all at once. For me they were not dreams at all but just memories of different time periods even things that were not related at all to the trauma itself.

Moderater: You don't need to say Great Point after every comment, and you don't need to say Great Question after every question.
Otherwise, great information, greatly needed in the world today.

What does she mean the war is at home?

I think she is quoting van der Kolk and I think he meant that the "war" is in your body. You can read abt this, learn about that, but at the end of the day, you have to face what's inside.

In very short, it means that many children are emotionally, physically, and sexually abused by their own parents, or caretakers, or extended family, the very people who are supposed to provide a home feeling to the kids.

In addition, Bessel has pointed out that it is the United States that invaded Vietnam and caused 55,000 Americans to die in combat there, and hundreds of thousands of American soldiers to return home traumatized as a result of being ordered to burn villages, rape the women and kill the children.
It is the US that invaded Iraq and forced soldiers to kill one million civilians there, and then return to the US traumatized as a result.
It is right-wing religious sects in the US that tell their male adherents to rule over their wives and to use abusive, shaming religious beliefs to control their children.
In other words, it is American society and culture that are waging war on US civilians.
Osama bin Laden killed 3,000 Americans, and we rightly regard him as a terrorist. By comparison, the US government has sent hundreds of thousands of its bravest citizens to die protecting Exxon Mobil.
So, the real war is here, at home.
