    As far as I know the third failure mode is called "bearing" and allowable is Bearing Ultimate Stress (Fbu).

    tearing refers to shear stress...the failure mode he is referring to is a "net section" failure which is a normal stress or tensile stress.

    What would the requirements in general be for the head of the bolt to fail and come off?

    3:13, should be equal sign instead of minus sign. I know what you said corrected yourself but just want to make sure everyone is on the same page :)

    I don't know how this helps to dimension a bolt for real situations. There is nothing explained regarding the amount of force to apply on the bolt to keep it below the Rp0,2. Nothing about the friction which is really important imo. I'm looking for a good explanation based upon VDI 2230.

    Please tell me what is the difference between bolt and screw.?

    • @paulbriozzo4895
      @paulbriozzo4895 5 лет назад

      A bolt has a shank (the unthreaded part) and a screw has no shank. In his example the "bolts" have very small shanks which is not ideal as the shear plane is going through the threaded section of the "bolt".
      It is always good practice to load bolts in shear through their shank not their thread.
