Take this from someone who was actually there that night. Kurt didn't seem sad or depressed at all. In fact, through the whole night, he was laughing and telling jokes. Afterwards, when the concert was over, he stood up, walked right up to the audience, and started to sign autographs for us and even making fun of people but in a funny way. Not to insult anybody just making fun of them for humor. He really seemed to be having fun and enjoying it. I happened to get his autograph that night, which I still have to this very day. Something I would never want to sell or get rid of.
Oh My God you witnessed history would have given a arm to see Nirvana unplugged thanks for sharing most of the band nirvana I see their cutting up and having a good time joking and being funny it makes me wonder since I watched soaked in bleach
@@B.Abaracus Personally, I do not believe that kurt committed suicide despite what the media says. There is a lot of evidence that proves otherwise. For a few examples, The suicide note, a guy who claimed courtney love offered him 50 grand to kill kurt cobain and even courtney's father had said in multiple interviews that he believed his daughter had to do something with Kurt's death. Implying that she had killed kurt herself or had hired someone to kill him and even her own lawyer has came out and said that kurt wanted a divorce because he was aware of her cheating on him so that give motive for courtney wanted kurt dead. Not to mention the amount of heroin found in his blood stream. With that amount of heroin found in his blood stream there was no way that kurt was even able to move rather than pick up a shot gun and shoot himself. Then the shot gun itself. The barrel of a shot gun is way to long for kurt to be able to shoot himself with. And the suicide not itself. There have been 4 different handwriting experts that have said that someone else had written the last 4 lines or sentences in the letter not kurt. It was those last 4 lines or sentences that made it seem that the letter was a suicide note. All of these things that the Seattle police department didn't bother to investigate. They just found his body and found the so called suicide not and declared it a suicide. Not bothering to take the time to do any investigations at all.
Munich 1994 Kurt didn't look good at all
@erniegutierrez410 That's because he was high on meth during that time.
You don't have to "seem" depressed to be depressed. Many people who are very depressed act happy on the surface.
"Where did you sleep last night" is an incredibly moving song, and Kurt looks like he's about to breakout in tears while he sings it. Get ready for a punch to the heart. Love your reactions!
Can’t wait to listen!! 💓
To be fair, the entire Unplugged performance is incredible.
I agree
@@AileenSenpai after he performed it he left the stage cause nothing he could do after it would compare.
No way!!! Lake of Fire
Bowie made it breathtaking. Kurt made it heartbreaking.
I thought bowies version was very weird and kinda bad. Like when Johnny cash did a cover of the song hurt
and Ure's is Mindboggling
Damn............
I know a thousand others have likely said this but 'Where Did You Sleep Last Night' is definitely worth a listen... It is absolutely gut wrenching... It's from this unplugged show.
Coming soon :)
@@AileenSenpai No, dont watch it, you'll be more sad than this video
I agree. I love acoustic/unplugged and this is one of my favs. So much emotion pouring out in his words and even on his face.

David Bowie loved Kurt's version of his song. RIP to both wonderful men.
"Lake of Fire" with the Meat Puppets from this concert is purely amazing
That one & Plateau are probably my favorite couple songs from this show.
The best song from it.
yesss. his vocals from that song are UNRIVALED
@@goldenageofdinosaurs7192 That one & Plateau are probably my favorite couple songs - by Nirvana ever
@@krepki1000 neither one of them are by Nirvana
The best performance of that Unplugged show was their cover of Where Did You Sleep Last Night. If you want raw emotions, that's the one.
Great suggestion!
Where Did You Sleep Last Night always gives me chills when I listen to it, the pain and emotion in Kurt's voice is haunting.
This. Absolutely this. The ultimate moment of Nirvana is the exhale and last words of Leadbelly's Where did you sleep last night.
Aileen, the whole Nirvana Unplugged is a top 5 record for me, all time. It's raw. It's emotional. It's simply amazing.
Absolutely! Right there with AIC and PJ.. Timeless!
"From the muddy banks of Whiskah"
A great adaptation of an amazing song. Of course, you can't go wrong singing a David Bowie tune anyway - the man was a genius. To think this song originally came out in 1970! So far ahead of its time. Anyway, Nirvana definitely did it justice and Kurt put a lot of emotion behind the song.
It's a cover of a David Bowie song... the iconic British singer was very happy that Kurt Cobain had made this obscure song he had written such a huge hit.
Hard to believe the song originally released in 1970! Bowie was thinking way ahead of the pack in his writing and creativity.
David Bowie loves life and you can hear it in his music... Kurt loves death and commits suicide...........
OBSCURE? To youngsters maybe. SMH
@@treetopjones737 Hell, I didn't know the song... and I'm old, dingus! 😈
Interesting to hear the impact on someone who wasn't born when this happened, but, is intelligent, experienced, and astute enough to give a real, visceral breakdown of you feelings about it. Again, this is why I've come to enjoy your page. So many times, I click on something and its just a young, pretty face, either male or female, and no real substance. I need the substance. Awesome job as usual! Much love from Ohio.
I appreciate you so much! Thank you for your kind words ❤️
In my opinion, one of the best unplugged songs ever… probably the best is Down in a Hole by Alice In Chains. You should definitely react to that!
Haunting to listen to when we know what happened.
@@angelabordack Yes, sadly 😥
The 2 best Unplugged sessions were Nirvana and Alice In Chains. Watching them when they premiered was awesome! Had that shit cranked on the 24" tv running through the Pioneer home stereo system!! That shit was fire!!
Guitar solo at the ending feels so sad. Like If the guitar knows Kurt Will die soon and cry
Cool part about this cover is how the solo at the end of the song is actually Kurt mimicking David Bowie's vocalizations from the original recording on the guitar
They did a great job covering the master David Bowie.
Nirvana did such a great job that David Bowie himself officially proclaimed that he preferred their version over his own version. Now that's saying something right there.

Would love if you could also react to Bowie's original and/or Midge Ure's version too! Midge Ure's version is probably my favourite as it really captures the surreal nature of the lyrics and its so so good! Just goes to show how versatile the song is and what a song can mean to so many people! Love to you ❤️
Your words touched me. Being empathic as well, i might cry just listening to pure sheer emotionnal music or singing and this one has definitely a lot of depth in this area. Thanks for sharing your reaction with us.
Wow, thank you ❤️
Yeah, that guitarr play talk to your soul. Allmost like Kurt play this for his funeral :(
MTV's Unplugged series came at a very unique time. Glam rock was fading fast and listeners were looking for something more intimate and real. Grunge was a part of that same evolution. MTV was way more popular and influential than it is now. Many people thought it was too influential. There was no streaming music at the time, let alone streaming video. MTV was essentially the only international platform for music. Because of this they could draw artists to do shows like unplugged. I remember begging my parents to get cable so I could watch MTV. I don't even know what channel it is now.
the whole unplugged album is a banger
That instrumental outro is my favorite section. To me it sounds almost mournful.
I love Bowie and I love Nirvana. This song makes me proud to have been neighbors with Kurt in Seattle
All of the MTV "Unplugged:" sets were muted lights, dark curtains, and eerily quiet. Clapton, The Black Crowes, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, soundgarden and a few more bands all signed up to do an Unplugged hour or so for MTV and most recorded it and sold is as a release. This was just before MTV got ADHD and decided to start reality TV (the real world, 94) and the music industry suffered ever since.
What a PERFECT and beautiful reaction…
This may be one of my favorites songs of all time, because every different version of it I hear feels like it unlocks something new within me. It’s such and emotionally charged song, and different artists lend their own heart to it.
As said, same concert "Where Did You Sleep Last Night". He plays most of it eyes closed but at the end it has a moment where he sighs and opens his eyes and you feel all his pain. Impossible beautiful song
That look he has at that moment... Rips your heart apart
I bet Aileen is empathic...beautiful reaction.
This is still my favourite Nirvana song. I absolutely love everything about it. Even the little mistake Kurt makes with his guitar. It hits me right in my heart this song and always gives me goosebumps!! Even though the song is not original by Nirvana for me it is ther song
Classic Bowie song, Aileen watching it makes it even better, so beautiful ❤️
Nirvana is an incredible band
Nirvana has been my favorite band since I was 12. I remember the first time I heard anything off of MTV Unplugged I was hooked. I felt like I was in a different world listening to it.
I'd suggest at least one more song from Unplugged "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" That's the gut wrencher for sure
coming up next week :)
Yeees!!!🙏
@@AileenSenpai I suggest you look for Verse Chorus Verse and Old Age from the With The Lights Out box set. Those are the songs that truly divide the casual Nirvana fans from the devoted Nirvana fans.
Nirvana Unplugged In New York is a masterpiece. No words can describe how much it means to me. “The Man Who Sold The World”was a David Bowie cover. But, as much as I love the Bowie original, I love this one even more.
as much as I love Bowie and as emotionally and musically great Nirvana covered it, my favourite has to be the Midge Ure cover.
😂 "Grungey Yodel"! Magnificent way to describe Kurt's voice. I love it.
lol I was scrolling and thinking "I love The Man Who Sold The World, but I cant stand Nirvanas other songs (overplayed), but its with Aileen so itll be worth it." It was worth it. So glad I watched, my new favorite version. Its a really sad sad song. He's literally up there singing about how he's a sellout. I have a lot of respect for Kurt for this. RIP🙏Wish he could've somehow found help. Thanks AileenSenpaiii🙏
Nirvana's MTV's Unplugged in itself, is a top tier album/show. Highly recommend watching/hearing the whole album
This is a great cover. You should really dig into Nirvana. They're my fav. "Lounge act" is a great tune. It doesn't get enough love. It should've been released as a single. It's from their album Nevermind.
Totally agree!
If you really wanna hear Kurt scream check out Negative Creep from they’re 1st album Bleach
This whole concert is pure magic. Peace, love, empathy...
Dont forget sadness 😢
MTV wanted the group do a rehearsal before they went live, Kurt was like “we don’t need no fking rehearsal”. And the show went on without a hitch.
I just adore this. The gravelly touch in Kurt’s voice gets me every time. Such an amazing man, so flawed, but so beautiful.
I grew up listening to Nirvana. Kurt Cobain is from the town I live in, so, naturally I learned to play guitar and some of the first songs I learned were Nirvana. I remember watching that episode of MTV Unplugged when it first aired. It was EPIC!! I was 14 or 15 at the time. It was what inspired me to pick up my dad's old acoustic and start strumming! Although the first song I learned was Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash, Come As You Are was my second!!
There's a really chilling moment right before they start this song in the show. Kurt says, "I know I'm going to mess this up", and he does in fact mess up the lyrics. But the way he messes them up is eerie. The original lyrics in the second verse go, "And all the millions here, we must have died alone. A long, long time ago..." When Kurt sings it he says "We marked a million hills, I must have died alone. A long, long time ago..." makes you wonder if he had been contemplating suicide since then.
There was a period of about 8 years where MTV did these unplugged performances. They really were a different perspective on the artist music. It has not been a thing since. Through the magic of the internet and RUclips we get to experience it again and for many, for the first time.
I think you need to check out Where Did You Sleep Last Night. This entire session was magical. In retrospect, the whole vibe, from the set design to the song choices were foreshadowing to some extent. Sometimes it’s hard to watch this having been there through this time. He was gone 4 months after this was recorded.
You would absolutely adore the entire unplugged set they did, there are a lot of songs that will make you feel like you want to bawl. You also get to see his and the bands sense of humor shine though in between songs every now and then.
Hey Aileen.... I've been watching your RUclips posts for sometime now and I must say I really rather enjoy the music you select and the reactions you share with those of us watching and listening. So I couldn't help but drop you a friendly Hello 🙂 and comment. You did indeed pick a great one from Nirvana on this occasion. Actually that entire album, in which this song appears is probably one of my favorites by this group. It's just one those Albums you can just pop in and let ride from start to finish. A Grunge Era masterpiece in my opinion with all the elements you'd expect from this style , but with a more intimate feel to it. The imperfections and gritty real world feel of it make it a perfection in its own right. Kurt was great at this and arguably he nearly on his own defined an entire musical movement.... Not to down play all the other great bands of the same time and style. I also admire in your reactions how you let the music affect you. You cry when the music tells you to.... You smile, laugh, and "Rock Out' accordingly. You feel the music and its message. Rather it be through the sound or lyrics. Music is such a beautiful outlet for expression encompassing so many disciplines coming together. I guess that's why musicians and music lovers alike... are what they are. Anyways.... Enough rambling lol Keep posting and I'll keep watching.... Peace.
Nick
No I love the rambling! I appreciate your deep and insightful comment. Really made my day ❤️
He was just one of the Most Beautiful Amazing Singer I’ve ever heard . it just breaks my heart he didn’t want to live anymore
This is one of the most amazing things iv seen and heard honestly that guitar solo really tops this off greatly. You can tell and feel everyone’s emotions in that room that can feel it. My emotions went through the roof atmosphere and straight into space on a foreign planet someplace I can see the infinite star glazed sky of a dead rocky world in darkness lit by eons of stars billions of long years away for some.
I listened to them so much, that now they seem like children to me, I'm glad to see you listening to them...
I love this song. I actually performed this version of the song at a talent show years ago.
Fun fact: Nirvana: Unplugged cd is one of the only cds I've worn out by playing it so much. Keep in mind it's a CD
The first CD in the With The Lights Out box set is the one I completely wore out. "Mrs. Buttersworth" was a highlight for me on that CD because it has just such a great raw '80s punk sound to it.
@@dcpunisher4781
Ya gotta appreciate great music 🎶
I wasn't a fan Nirvana until I saw this "Unplugged" performance. That changed after this.
You absolutely let the music and emotion bring out your feelings , it was his way of saying goodbye to this world
Got to see them with The Breeders (Cannonball) around Dec '93 at the BJCC in Alabama. Got really stoned. Good times.
Pure. Raw. Vulnerable. Is the essence of Nirvana and what made this the perfect setting for them despite Kurt's fear. "I guarantee you I will screw this song up" And he did, but recovered the solo to make it sound perfectly imperfect!
P.S. The rehearsals really weren't going well for this at all. And David Bowie loved this cover. I recommend you watch the behind the scenes of this...
Guitar solo at the ending feels so sad. Like If the guitar knows Kurt Will die soon and cry
That wailing at the end on guitar always gets me. So beautiful. Moves me every time.
Hey Aileen. Great review as usual. If you want to go on with wonderful music from the 90's, and with some great vocals too, go for the "Pixies".
Another fantastic video Aileen. Your ability to feel and experience the music, vocals and lyrics honestly and openly and then put into words how it makes you feel is so refreshing and what keeps Myself and Im sure a lot of others coming back again and again.
If you're interested, another awesome band to check out is Hellyeah, a supergroup comprised of Chad Grey (Singer of Mudvayne) and Vinnie Paul, RIP (Drummer of Pantera)
Songs like 'Hush' and 'Love Falls' are great starting points, albeit pretty heavy on the content matter.
keep doing you Aileen, you're awesome 🙂
fun fact dave grohl had never used those types of drumsticks ... they were given to him just before he played this show.
I remember being an early teen watching this on MTV when it came out and thought it was amazing. As a kid growing up in the 80s/90s, this was our music. Kurt was such a huge part of our lives. Especially us that grew up here in the north west. Now at 40+ years of age, I still listen to, and feel the music of the grunge era as if it were THE music of my generation.
Check out the first 2 songs: About a Girl and Come as you Are. His voice is still warming up and has a very raw quality to it.
Aneurysm live at the paramount is that perfect slice of nirvana at the height of their power..!!
Indeed.
What's funny is I think the version of Aneurysm from the With The Lights Out boxset is actually the best. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's just because it has that more raw pre-Nevermind Nirvana sound to it. (Of course Nirvana is probably my favorite band of all time so I love Kurt and Nirvana in all their stages so I'm certainly not the kind of Nirvana prude that hates Nevermind.)
that solo at the end there got me too.. it's classic material, it's no way around
I don't know if you know but I just wanted to add that this is a David Bowie Cover. He kills it just as with all of his music. Kurt was definitely one of a kind and definitely one of "The Greats!" I don't think you'll find a bigger fan than me. The unplugged music really showcases his unimaginable talent! He was such a special artist. RIP💓Kurt
Kurt was playing an acoustic guitar but they were obviously plugged in, he was playing the lead part but it wasn't audible, they had another electirc guitar playing the riff and Pat Smear playing rhythm. When they played this song live in concerts Kurt would play the lead but just on an electric guitar
you gottta do the whole album its incredible
Awesome reaction Aileen I love every version of this song but Kurt made you feel like it was real, thanks again rock on 🤘Aileen
Your so profound with your comments and very intelligent. Totally right as well in everything you said in my opinion!
"Where Did You Sleep Last Night" unplugged - life changing.
Very emotional song. Good reaction.
"I though you died alone. A long long time ago"
"Oh no, not me, we never lost control."
That line belongs to him
Great review of this song. "where did you sleep last night" from the same concert is incredible and moving. edit: I read Svenopolis after writing this if that says anything about the song...
I love that guitar solo, it looks like he’s not even trying that hard but it sounds so good and smooth
I'm So Glad You felt this😥this moved my Soul Always ❤️
This is one of my favourite Nirvana songs! If I’m correct this was recorded 2 weeks before he took his life. Or something like that
Their song In Bloom is one of my fav songs, plus the clip is funny lol
The reason we all love these songs this way, is because that's how they're written. In a bedroom with an acoustic guitar. Granted, this is a cover but I can imagine Bowie writing this in his room.
I always loved Nirvana but seeing their music in this format made me understand they are not just a great grunge band, but great artists,
When you change the sound/genre of a song and it still works as well as the unplugged album/show did, it’s something rare and special
First CD I ever bought. Glad people are still discovering this.
You mentioned Curt’s voice being out of traditional mainstream. He Absolutely did not want to go mainstream. Mainstream is soul and life killing for Legends. Love your genuine appreciative openness you shared❤️❤️❤️. Now a Huge fan of you!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Watch unplugged Where did you sleep
There's something so sweet and wistful about those guitar slides at the end. Like he's remembering the life he hoped to have.
Every fan of music deserves a deep psychological dive down the Nirvana rabbit hole
Btw- did you notice, or happen to know, that the drummer here for nirvana is dave grohl, the lead singer of the foo fighters?
Or that kurts wife is courtney love, the lead singer of the band “hole”?
This is my all-time favorite song especially the nirvana cover, it just resonates with me so damn much lol
Nirvana's Where did you sleep last night would be a awesome reaction, its also a unplugged song like The man who sold the world.
Midterm results are terrifying BUT!!!! Aileen is reacting to one of my all time favorite performances by one of my all time favorite bands??? Yes please!! Bring me some warm fuzzies!
Good luck in your midterms!! ❤️❤️❤️

I clicked on the thumbnail before reading which song this one's great but you need to do *#Nirvana** (Where Did You Sleep Last Night)*
Lake of fire is still my favorite one from this night simply because of the lyrics so simple
That guitar solo cuts through everything 😢
This a performance for the ages, love the Nirvana unplugged so much.
Their best stuff imo.
This was MTV Unplugged this whole show the almost all the songs still play on the radio. This and Where did you sleep last night.
Heart Shaped Box is must, so haunting yet catchy.
i just discovered you this evening and youve got another big fan! i love your style and outlook on the music and life in general! im stoked to follow your journey, very excited to see where it takes you! if you get time take a look at a guy named Blueprint and his song "Persevere". Its not this rock or metal genre, but ill bet you concert tickets of your choice that youll love the message this man is speaking on.
I’ll concur with everyone else. Where Did You Sleep Last Night? should be the next Nirvana reaction
I totally agree with your take on Unplugged versions of great artists performing their hits. Wish there were more of these types of performances.
This was his last performance on TV and his second to last performance ever before his passing. I always felt this was his goodbye, without saying goodbye. You were right on when you said you could see the sadness in his eyes, he truly was a tortured soul. I lived every single person on that stage and what they brought. Breaks my heart, but so beautiful at the same time. Rest easy Kurt!
Totally rad, cover any/all of Nirvana song(s). Now that would be gnarly. 🎸🤘🏼
The MTV NYC Unplugged was essentially phenomenal potentially sensational.
This whole performance means so damn much to me. It's perfect....the song choices, the atmosphere, and, damn, his voice. Raw and beautiful. I wish he was still here. :(
You should check out the whole performance if you haven't yet, but specifically Come As You Are and Something in the Way really hit me with the emotional subtlety that you talked about. Also Drain You (Live On "Nulle Part Ailleurs", Paris, France) is a very powerful electric performance. Would love to see your reaction to that. All the best and happy holidays :)
I watched this on TV in the 90s and have heard it over and over over the years... it still makes me very emotional.
Where did you sleep last night, live on MTV unplugged is probably his best raw emotion. it's a cover of one of his 1930 or 40s bluse singer led belley
When I was 22 I listen to heavy metal and country and that was around the time I first heard Nirvana and it was game over I loved grunge and I love Kurt Cobain's soul and it's chilling that he chose that song with them lyrics, I must have died alone a long long time ago because a year after that he did die alone. You can always feel his sadness through his music.
