Ford Focus help needed ASAP! Engine System Failure

- Engine system failure appears regularly and the car will not start when this message appears. Acceleration Reduced also appears randomly while driving. I get the following error codes as well P1620,
Hi I have just had this fault with my Ford Focus 2006. Mine was a fault with the instrument cluster (instrument Panel). The computer that controls the car is on the back of the instrument panel. The fault is the plug pins on the back of the board which have to be re-soilded. Having worked in electronics for 10 years in the past I found this `OK to repair. You have to get the instrument panel out strip it down and re-soider the 30 pins. Look at how to get the panel out here on RUclips there are many videos on how to do it. It took me about 3 and a half hours from start to finish to complete. Well worth doing as I here Ford want to charge between £500 and £700 to repair or replace, Good luck.

Hey sorry I want to ask you about this problem. I just had this happen on my 2007 Ford c max. And I'm I a foreign country. Is this serious or can I wait to get it fixed until I get back home which is 2000 kms away in about 2 weeks?

@@alexandrulacatus154 Hi could be the same problem. Check and re-solder the 30 pin circuit board at the back of the instrument cluster. worth a go.

look at all the 3amp fuses, the dash can suffer from cracked solder joints on the muilt plug, i done a 2003 focus just the other day, had to change the 4 capasitors inside the dash there small silver caps, but changed with std caps..might help someone whos having probs with any focus and fiesta's.
From what I can see it's flashing fault 61 and that's why it's flashing like that. Count the slow flash until the pause then again. Mine has a intermittent issue that showed up every year or so. Light goes nuts and says engine malfunction but if I turn ignition off and turn back on, it's fine. But mainly seems to do it if I leave ignition on and drivers door open.
Have u checked dash plug contacts poor conections tap dash see if temp fixed
The same problem was solved by programming the car using a device that was connected to the car
The problem was caused by the battery being disconnected for a long time

Hi just bought a cmax with the battery flat for good few months have this issue was yours cured by resetting the ecu
I had this problem (tdci), non franchised garage diagnosed faulty glow plugs, fixed for a total of £90 inc VAT
A and P Motors, Norwich, good garage, fixed on the spot

I just had my Mechanic do a diagnostic test.
And it came up as Fault code U1900 which when you Google it is a instrument cluster problem and can be recalibrated for £85-100 if you can find someone with the right tools. Or you can pay Ford Around £650+ labour...
Try this .. fuse under passenger glovebox 68 take out and clean also spray wd40 all over fuse box . Its a known problem with these fords

@@earlmendies9652If the fusebox is fine then it sure is the Instrument Cluster. If you tap the top of the dashboard this can temporary fix it. But the instrument cluster will have to be re soldered. It cost me £150 from a local garage that deals in reparing just fords and the mechanic told me he had fixed loads of fords with the same problem. He said Ford don`t use lead in there solder and this is what causes this problem the solder cracks over time. Hopes this helps

Had the red light flashing for the past couple of days. Went out after a couple of minutes. This morning the battery was spinning the engine over but it wouldn't start. Jumped it with a spare battery and she fired instantly. Straight down the garage and got a new battery. Light not flashing red and engine running well. Hopefully all sorted
This has LITERALLY just happened to me today, mine is a Focus Titanium 2006 2.0 TDCI, 163,000 miles, (ex fleet car), I've had it go into limp mode twice in the 3 months I've had it where it lost power, but never this warning message? I was about to get on the motorway but turned back to be on the safe side

@@user-gl1rz2kd7q Mechanic resoldered loose connection on dashboard so far it's working fine. Almost year with no issues tough I had to change alternator but it was unrelated

It will be bad solder joints on the circuit board in the back of the instrument cluster.

It is a common problem if u get abs reader and app on ur phone u are able to turn if of it is a instruments cluster tho if car don't lose power just turn off ya self if u have lost power get it in garage st8 away

@@GhostLeadTV Yes, it was a dashboard! Had to resolder connections, so far it's been 100% ok, except i had to change alternator but it's unrelated to dashboard - kinda scary experience - lost all power in middle of active traffic, no lights, no nothing......

@@GhostLeadTV For alternator check use a multimeter on the car battery while the car running it should be 12.5 V and 13-14 V when pushing the gas pedal, also if your car lights are bright , power windows rolls fast and windshield wipers work fast then alternator should be fine! Ford Focuses also has a terrible grounding problem for car batteries when losing too much power another problem, the previous owner had changed started and it was wrong for my Focus 1.6L too big and used too much power ! Well if it's an dashboard panel just hit it with a fist, errors should disapear for short time but it's not a solution but they you will know if its dashboard!Check - Car battery - Startert - Dashboard - Alternator! And the most important thing you need a good mechaninc you can trust 100% !
3 weeks ago my 1.6 diesel focus TDCI went in to limp mode... took it to the garage and codes read DPF filter, i had i chemically flushed and all was well. yesterday went into limp mode again displaying Engine systems fault, so back to the garage. the mechanic who i know is very experienced and trustworthy ran another diagnostic this time dpf, power steering, battery and alternator codes have came up, he has check these faults and they are all fine, he seems to think this could be a software problem or a wiring issue, i told him i did not want to spent hundreds on this car valuved at £1000 so he advised me to fined a mechanic who will fiddle around with the software and maybe to BLOCK the codes from coming up and sending it into limp mode.
Check or Replace the mobilizer fuse

HI i HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM can any one tell me what i should do to over coem it the forsdd mechanics are telling to change meter and the cluster ( this will cost me more than the cost ofa second hand car )

Many u have put the ring fuel in that happened to my cmax for 4 weeks leave it if not go to garage to fix

Not this code, this one prevents the engine from starting, acceleration reduced, with usually comes with this problem is the one that randomly shows up, the dashboard reboots and the car Will not have as much power. My dad has the same problem and we dont know how to fix
I realised how to fix it and it's the only way ...Sell it and never think about Ford's ever again
@@chemccoll2012 Haha well maybe my dad should too! I love that car and it has grown to my heart really much over the years its a 2007 model, my dad bough it, he's the second hand. And also maybe he spent way too much money. He needed to fix electrocics, he crashed the front but you cant notice it lol.
Anyways i love that car but maybe it's to the point where it should go.

@@mikcnmvedmsfonoteka yes in my case it was the instrument binacle the soldered joints dry out over time on the printed circuit board,which is connected directly to the cars computer there's video's on here showing them being repaired, I found a repairer on eBay so I posted the complete instrument binacle to him he repaired it and posted it back to me I fitted it back into the car job done never had any more problems hope this helps👍

@@sararussell790 hi don't recall but it was a company in Leeds found them on eBay there's quite a few on there, I paid £50 at the time and the service was great you remove the cluster yourself and post it off I posted mine on a Monday and received it back by Friday.

@@eneaalexandru3034 eu am facut fix asta, mam dus la mecanic am pus pe tester si no aratat cai ceva cu bateriei. Lam scimbat dupa aia tot se mai aprindea si nici nu ma lasa sa ma duc absoulut, ca intainte ce aparea ma mai lasa pana la 3000 de turatii, dar acuma absolut 0 nu mai avea putere.

i have exact same problem,ive changed all the sensors even the pedal,from what i can gather its a common fault on o6 and 07 models,i took it finally to ford and they said its instrument cluster because its linked to cars computer the only way to solve it was with bying new cluster for £350,plus £70 for reprogramming pcm and £100 labour,i found company who will repair cluster for around £120,so i gotta send cluster off to them,they said they can repair and send cluster back in 2 days,hope this is any help to you

It's not the injectors, i had them all checked and fuel line and the high pressure pump . I cant repair it.. if i accelerate hard it enters in limp mode/ engine system failure

@@chriswilson.9629 nope turned out there was a connector down the passengers floor so I cut it off and soldered the wires directly then it works turns out the connector is crap and not making proper contact. I found out by rage kicking the passenger footwell where the wiring harness it and it came back to life.

Except that error message you seem to have battery issues there , ABS issue also ... I've the same problem on the display when (the most of times) it shows the "engine system fault" error , but wherever i ask around in some garages or some trained guys who work with cars , no one could give the solution . I live in Tirana , Albania unfortunately , where there is all about money and no one really gives a f*ck to give solutions , not even trying , just they want the money ... Anyway i'd be glad if one day my ford focus 1.8l tdci would not have any issue ! That day could be never day ...

Salut aceeasi problema am si eu am spalat motorul este un ford focus zetec 2.0 diesel 2005 primul sintom a fost a inceput sa scoata putin fum si dupa cand am accelerat nu avea nici o reactie a taiat accelerati am oprit motorul si cand am vrut sa pornesc au aparut aceleasi errori va rog o idee daca se poate multumesc

@@florincrtr la mine problema e din ceasurile de la bord dacă lovești puțin deasupra se ridica turația am descoperit la diagnoza
Am refacut lipiturile de la mufa de pe placa ceasurilor, pana acum nu mi a mai facut probleme!

This is a just bad battery and she can make a mistakes on dashboard because dashboard don't get enough energy from battery I solve it twice on my car. BTW I bought Ford original battery, and solve lot of problems and errors. Nothing else

Change fuse F20 and car is ok.I pass this problem whit FOCUS 1.6 automatic.zetec 2006.
DPF fault. I had it on mine so I had it deleted with a straight through twin pipes runs like a animal
Hi Jeremy, I had the same problem 3 weeks ago with my 08d focus 1.6tdci the garage said he would clean the DPF said it would cost 180 then a few hours later he rang to say he had to re set and would cost €400 paid 400 and now the message has come on again this morning.. fuming isn't the word :( anyways just wondering about you saying you had it deleted how do you go about this and does it cost much ?? thanks Adrienne

This happened to me. The car wouldn't start, and the engine did not even attempt to turn over. I left 5mins tried again, and again and again. Took it to halfords and got a new battery fitted for £80 every thing is fixed now.
