Love this song. This made me an instant fan of Disturbed back in the day. You mentioned the pull in the music to come in close and listen to the war drums. For me it was the softly spoken invitation. "Do you feel that?" Great way to make one lean in and ask, "What?" Then he just roars in your face. Shivers galore lol. Wake up, got a serious message for you today. Makes one want to roar with the same angst. Great song.

When I saw this band in concert years ago the one thing I was astounded by (besides Dave's vocals) was how absolutely heavy they had the bass turned up on the sound system. I was sitting near the back of the stadium and the bass was literally pounding my chest like a physical fist, it was unlike anything I have ever experienced in a live show.

I remember listening to this CD as an adolescent, sitting with my boom box on my bed for the first time and being utterly frozen, not knowing what I was experiencing. I was a classically trained violist, and Disturbed kept me company when my only friend was my viola. Around that same time my dad died, and I was enveloped in Disturbed's music. They were such an intense influence and even saved my life a few times. I'm glad people are listening more now

Pinch harmonics have more of a squeal to them. These are natural harmonics that you can play simply by lightly touching a string over a particular fret and picking it, rather than pressing it to the fretboard. Cancels out the typical vibration but lets the harmonic ring out.

I’m not a hardcore fan of Disturbed but this song has a special meaning for me. I had a brother who I rode with and this was one of his favorite songs. When we’d be drinking and partying Reddog would play this song about 10-15 times. This song and “Let the bodies hit the floor” were his favorites.
He was shot and killed several years ago but every time I hear this song I can see him jamming out... RIP Reddog.

Hell yeah this song awakened the sickness in me, been a big Disturbed fan ever since I heard it for the first time. The first album is a real moment in time for nu-metal at its peak - on the back of KoRn’s Issues album and the first Slipknot album, this and Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory really brought the style into the mainstream. The Game, Fear and Numb are absolutely stonking tracks and Stupify was a big hit.

David Draiman...just an amazing voice!! A powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime, which is incredibly difficult to do and he makes it look so damn easy! He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before........just hauntingly beautiful and pure tonal properties to it! An awesome talent. Loved your reaction and your take on the performance. Geebz, if you want to hear something awesome from David....listen to his collaboration with Nita Strauss (on guitar) called "Dead Inside" ....it's unbelievable! .....and quite heavy. Find an uncut version of Stupefy. The end of the song has those dark notes you heard in the verse. It plays as a segway from Stupefy and Down With The Sickness (Stupefy plays before Down With The Sickness on the album) and sets the tone for the song, building up to the drum intro.

I was just thinking the other day that I'm surprised you haven't gotten around to a lot more Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, etc..., Geebz.
I feel that I classify them and a few other bands in the same grouping in my mind, because I grew up listening to them before a lot of other bands, even 70's, 80's and grunge bands.
If you get around to Disturbed again anytime soon, their singles are killer, but my favorite track of theirs has to be _Torn._ It's off of Indestructible, and has powerful vocals from David, a sick riff, and the best guitar solo I have heard from them. It is a spectacular track.
Thanks for everything, Geebz! Keep on rockin', man, awwwright!
P.S. - I kind of forgot how much I like this song. I really placed it in the "meme" song category after so much of the media got to Disturbed about the sound, but it's a fantastic tune!

Those are natural harmonics in the chorus. He’s basically just holding his fingers right above the metal on the frets and only pushing his fingers down enough to make contact with the strings, but not enough for them to ring out as a normal note would.

Someone may have mentioned this already, but the harmonics he is doing in this song aren't pinch harmonics. These ones are natural harmonics. Instead of pinching the string with his picking hand's thumb, he uses his fretting hand's pinky to lightly touch the string at the 5th fret while picking it. You may already know what a natural harmonic is if you play guitar, which I think you said you did in another video. This particular song is using the B string and G string for those harmonics. For each chorus, first it's twice on the B and the second time it's once on the B and once on the G, except the last chorus he doesn't do the harmonics. Hope that makes sense.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i remember that i had to downtune my guitar down to drop C#, even though there is not a single instance of an C# chord. The mainriff is in Eb, but the natural harmonics would not sound right otherwise when i covered it.

    • @Danlikescheesteaks
      @Danlikescheesteaks 3 года назад +2

IDK about war drums but they're definitely primal. Like a song for a caveman. Yeah your video link can be posted anywhere, which still comes back to here.

You liked this one Geebz! You don't often move like that when listening to a song, it was more than just counting. It really is a fantastic song, but I listened to it differently being with you today.

Great track. Thanks for reacting to full full version and not the radio edit. It makes a huge difference in this case.
I really hope you can get around to a reaction Faith No More. They were a huge influence to many bands of this era. I would suggest "The Real Thing" as a first track. While it is not on the first album the band released, it is from their first album with lead Mike Patton, who you reacted to with one of his other bands, Mr. Bungle.

Also, speaking of time changes, Disturbed’s song “Deify” has the verses in 6/4 with the chorus in 4/4. It’s an interesting song from a composition standpoint

Heyyy Geebz!!! I discovered your channel recently and I have to say that your reviews are the most detailed and my new favorite of all the different music reviewers out there!!! It's an absolute treat to hear the perspective you share!
Anyways, to get to my point, I would absolutely be thrilled if you could take the time to review my favourite song of all time since the release a year and a half ago!!
I have seen you review some of my other favorite songs (Reptile, Of Matter), and if you could do a review of the song DARK by INVENT, ANIMATE, I think you will understand why I believe it will be my absolute favorite song forever!!!
I truly believe it will blow you away with how perfect it is in every way! 🔥
    Much Love my Brother!! 🙏❤

minuta 2:03 YES! is the scream signature disturbed song ... But I guess he is not the only one having a scream, KORN has some signature scream, even Tool Has it and Maynard move that to APC and used in collaborations like Deftones and RATM... and then you have the whole family you can tell Chino moreno also has some signature scream and don't tell me Zack de la Rocha does not have signature screams. it was like an organic stuff ... in the circle of friends?
