I've used the coin gap tool quite often, and compared the calibration with other tools and it was spot on in all occasions. when resetting the gap you put the ground trough the small hole and pry it to make the gap bigger like a bottle opener.
Im very happy to learn about the advantage of the EIX plug at low RPM. Ive been a fan of the BR7EG for the tank clearance but ill be throwing one of my BR7EIX spark bolts in soon.
AWESOME VIDEO Jeff! Everything explained perfectly! Finally someone looking after the interests of Dirt bikes both 2Stroke and 4Stroke. Hopefully you can do some videos on todays Spark Plugs the good and bad.. Can you also explain differences from the stars like the duel, V type, and some without any straps on the ends? Cheers
Good explanation Jeff. In a nut shell: pay attention to heat range, electrode type, don't use the coin type gap adjuster and don't bother trying to read an old plug if you have been putting around in the parking area. Warm up the bike. Use a new plug, go wide open throttle for a while, and read the bottom porcelain part of the plug - not the top electrode part. that is it for now :)
Excellent video...I have a 2003 KTM 200sx and use it mainly for woods and trails. Should I switch to a hotter plug? The manual recomends a BR9EVX for the sx and a BR8EG for the same year 200exc.
What spark plug do you recommend for husqvarna te250i tpi 2021 for enduro technical riding? I am looking on br7eix and br7es but i don't the differences between them
Watch this video for 19mins, really hoping to learn something meaningful about spark plugs that I didn't already know only to have Jeff tell you that you don't need to worry about anything he just said, just go ride your bike.....Well that was a waste. Thanks alot. A disclaimer would have been nice for this video.
No Jeff, you don't use the coin tool for prying like you demonstrated. You use the chamfered tiny hole in the coin tool for hooking and pulling the ground strap from the top to widen the gap. Tools work better when you know how to use them.
Hello Righteous Dude: I'm very familiar with the coin tool and how to use it. The tiny hole you mentioned does not work well and should not be used. That tool is best served as a paper weight.

Another great video. Thanks for taking the time to put these together, and for sharing.

Very well done Jeff. Thanks for the video and detailed explanation of the subject.
Very useful information. Thanks man!

you should ask for your money back.
Solid tip or red loctite the cap on, no compromise.
Great video. I learned a lot. Thanks.
i have a 500cc ktm 2 stroke aircooled from 1979 and i wonder what is the right plug for me?
NGK BR8EIX
Thank you!

We all know Jeff Slavens could just look at a plug and tell you what the gap is within +/- 0.001" visually.
