      Muchísimas gracias por el mensaje! Tengo una serie que había iniciado en agosto del 2019 y voy a estar continuando en un par de meses (casi dos años después hasta que me pude volver a poner a trabajar en este cello!!). Esos videos son todos bastante detallados así que si queres apreciar el proceso, seguro que con eso podrás :)

      Es más, recién termine un cello que todavía tendré en mi taller por un par de semanas antes de enviarlo al cliente, así que si queres pasar y probar uno, ahora es cuando 🙌😊

    Hey Lucas
    I'd love to see a video going over how a violin maker gets the fingernail profile on their gouges!
    I've carved a few scrolls, but just with the straight profile the gouges come with.

    • @kathmatsushita
      @kathmatsushita 3 года назад

      Me, too. I'd love to see how people sharpen their gouges to get that result!

    • @LucasFabro
      @LucasFabro  3 года назад

      Only now I see this comment! Sorry for the late reply.
      Yep, carving with the gouges the way they come can be a mess as the edges of them can damage the scroll (they're also quite uncomfortable for roughing out the way they come) and also the angle might be the wrong one.
      Unfortunately at the moment I think I have all the gouges I need (haven't bought any for ages!), but if I ever need to get one I'll make sure to show how I sharpen it for the first time in order to change the profile.

    If all videos always take long time to edit, this one took much more! But as I know it's a long one, I might make a shorter version of it. Let me know what you think! 😊
    (And to think that this long version is still very very short in comparisson to the actual work 😅)

    • @kathmatsushita
      @kathmatsushita 3 года назад

      No, don't make it shorter --- it's the total detail that I like, even if I can't watch it all at one time!!!!

    I love this! The part of the scroll-making I disliked, however, was hogging out the pegbox!!! Mine never goes as smoothly as yours seemed to! (Especially getting at the far end under the scroll...)

    • @LucasFabro

      Only now I see this one!
      The key for that is really sharpening a lot! (surprising right? hahaha)
      That and doing it with patience, because most of the time I think it's easy to overlook it as "no one" will notice it.

      Kathy, I was missing you on my comments section on RUclips haha. I always dress nicely (or at least what I consider to be nice) for work. It's part of my work ethics and there're even more reasons on to why I do it. Maybe when I get to 1000 subs here or 10000 on instagram I'll do a Q&A and that question will definitely be there as a lot of people question that or think that I don't really work dressed like that every day haha

    • @kathmatsushita
      @kathmatsushita 3 года назад

      @@LucasFabro Aha! At first I though perhaps you had an appointment to get to right after you finished doing a little work on the scroll!!! But I like your idea of dressing nicely for work. I, however, usually don't bother --- I'm usually just wearing what I call my "comfy pants" (just some sweat pants) and a t-shirt or sweatshirt when it's cold. I get sawdust and wood chips all over my clothes, anyway, and, with Covid now, I don't really go out much at all, so no one's gonna see me (except my dog)...so why dress nicely? Ha ha.

      @@LucasFabro Another thing I wanted to ask you....I was watching your roughing-out video of your current cello build, and am so impressed with how you seem to do it all just by eye --- no templates or anything? I'm sure, though, by now, you pretty much know exactly what the arching should feel like/look like as you carve, huh? Do you first shape the "sixth" (I think that's what they call it --- the longitudinal arch.), and then just work up to that as you go? Do your archings always end up similarly, or is it a different thing for every instrument? And, how much thicker than your final edge thickness are you carving to, as you're doing the roughing-out from the edge?

    Hello Lucas, awesome video! I must admit, I didn't watch it all through, since today is busy, and most of the information I have already. But if I was completey new, this would be a gold mine! Even now I might watch it through some day, it is such a lovely scroll and I see a lot of nice tips in there like how you cut your fluting under the scroll etc.
    I know the feeling of editing long videos... Not sure if you saw my varnishing video, but I had 2-3 weeks worth of footage and was determined that I had to fit it all in under 30 minutes. But in that process you cut out information of course, and in your case, where people like me use your videos as an information source, I think it's great that you make a long edit like this :-)

    • @LucasFabro
      @LucasFabro  3 года назад +1

      Yep, it’s a long long one and editing takes ages!
      I saw your videos yeah, I love your editing! I told you, I want to start doing more things like that but not need to finish convincing myself to do it haha.
      I was wondering how do you deal with putting music without getting strikes from RUclips? Because whenever I tried it seemed like I wasn’t allowed 🤷‍♂️

    • @Tostra1997
      @Tostra1997 3 года назад

      @@LucasFabro It sure does! Filminng is bad enough, but it basically takes the same timee to edit... If you were to do some actual filmatic editing, it would just be that much longer. I'd love to learn it, but I can't even be bothered to do much on the very few videos I do make, so it probably won't happen any time soon :-P
      Glad you didn't hate it! :-D
      I worried about the music thing. And I worried and worried a bit more. Then I looked in the YT free music library and was severely disappointed in what I had to choose from. I was *this* close to recording a bunch myself, but I'm out of practice, and even if I weren't, 30 minutes of recording is so much work... So I just put a recording on there and crossed my fingers, and it's still there. It could be because I have like 30 subscribers and nobody cares (although I have had other videos claimed), but I chose this one in particular because I know I've heard it in other videos on youtube. I don't remember which ones, and I can't find it/them, but I thought it might be public domain, and it seems that it is. It's also one of my personal favourites, so I was very when it didn't get claimed!
      The problem is not the pieces, but people copyright the recordings, and even uploading your own recording of public domain/classical pieces can get you claimed from orchestras...
      So yeah, I'm afraid I just lucked out and can't help you. I wish I could, and I would also love to know myself!

      @@Tostra1997 using the same music that others used before to see if it’s public domain is a great idea!
      Although there are always videos with music on YT and I’m always wondering how they do it!
      Yeah, loads of things to learn or to do but they all take so much time :/ 😬

      @@LucasFabro This isn't quite the same, but I ran into the same problem when trying to upload some of my videos to Facebook (and then to embed the Facebook videos into my website). I don't know what can be done with RUclips disallowing it, though. But, even though I was using iTunes music that I had purchased, Facebook wouldn't allow it. Then, I found a workaround (I can't remember where, probably just from googling). When I embed something onto my webpage, I have to use "" command; but, when it won't play my video, I change the "" command to something like this (in the "code" window of Dreamweaver), instead, and it works. . Don't know if this might give any help to how you'd do it (if it is at all possible) in RUclips, but it worked when I was embedding a video into my website from Facebook. It was really maddening that I couldn't use all my purchased iTunes music....

    Lucas, Thank you again for another great video. I have a couple questions from your video. What is the angle you cut the heal of the neck? Also, why is the nut width greater on this violin. Was there a consistent measurement of the width on the original instruments. Thanks

    • @LucasFabro
      @LucasFabro  3 года назад +1

      Thank you very much for the message :)
      It’s almost square! Then you get the projection by working on the fingerboard instead.
      Usually baroque instruments are wider there, although if there’s something that baroque instruments are not are standard and consistency!
