Lack of personality? I seem to remember Misty's staryu liking to pose quite a bit. You don't exactly need a face to have a personality, that's what body language is for. Plus it gives that alien feel which ties into the lore quite well.
Compared to Pokemon with faces, Staryu had a lot of difficulty emoting
And in the opening theme of the second movie it was seen doing a 'handstand' on the water as well as jumping in and out of the water. A low-key show off lol
Don’t forget the first movie when Misty used Staryu to get to Mewtwo’s island. The moment Misty called for it underwater was legendary!

I love this scene! I get goose bumps every time I see it and I get goose bumps in the remake too!
Yeah and that Storm Mewtwo created was one of the most heaviest obstacles to overcome. This prooves that Misty her Staryu and also Ash his Squirtle must been considered two of the best Water type Pokemon in the show. If you consider how the other 3 trainers arrived on New island with evolved water and Flying pokemon and since Both Staryu and Squirtle are unevolved makes it a very impressive feat to accomplish.
Staryu and starmie were always my favorite of Misty's Pokémon. I am glad at least one of them has a pretty nice record. Always wished they had been more prominent,
Ah Staryu, Misty MVP and true Ace pokemon. I always cheered whenever she called it out. Too bad she didn't use it more often

@@Joey15811I still don’t understand why the heck they made Misty keep that Goldeen for DECADES without it evolving lol.
At least Staryu had an excuse for not evolving due to the lack of a Water Stone…But Misty’s Goldeen had NO reason to be such a flop for all that time😂🤦🏽♂️
Staryu and starmie were my favorite of Misty's pokemon. Their designs just made them look really cool in combat spinning around everywhere, and starmies versatility, power and typing always made me feel like one day I was going to see some really epic fights with misty. Unfortunately this went largely unfulfilled, but at least staryu has a great track record. Hopefully starmie is redeemed in the future. I get the disadvantage of showing no facial expressions but I always felt their stances and quick deliberate movements gave them an air of personality, like Misty's loyal bodyguards or something.
I really enjoyed Starmie in the Orange Islands where it was used by the gym leader Rudy. It was much more satisfying seeing his Starmine in action than Misty's

The Rapid Spin animation for Staryu was so cool
You missed Staryu carrying the gang to new island during the first movie... that showing proves that Staryu is a strong pokemon
I thought of including that scene, but left it out as I didn't want to be redundant after mentioning the utility support. It's a good showing though!
Fun Fact: *Did you know that both Staryu and Starmie are partially based on the iconic tokosastu hero, Ultraman? That is probably why both Staryu and Starmie always say "Hyahh!!!", lol.*

I think I became obsessed with staryu after it with the assistance of squirtle saved misty and the gang while they almost drowned during a sea storm it really shows how well misty raised it and how much it cares about her💯 and I feel a bit underrated at times

I always thought Misty’s staryu was cooler then starmie as a kid. Not just because of its better win streak, but it’s voice is so much cooler then starmie’s. In fact, staryu has one of the coolest voices of all Pokémon.

For My theory. I'd like to think that Staryu was Misty's first Pokemon ever when she was 7. and that is why it's one of her main battlers throughout the series. I would've like to see an origin of that.

I think she had Starmie first but evolved it too fast so its weaker than her Staryu.
Did you know: Both her Staryu and Starmie have references to Ultraman built into them. Both of them have grunts for calls like the ultras do as well as when taking enough damage, the red cores on their bodies will start to flash and emit a warning sound like the Ultra's color timer.

I'm not sure if I'm right to say this but did you know that Misty's Staryu resembles Ultraman? Staryu's grunt is very similar to Ultraman's grunt, Staryu's red gem will start blinking when it's in low health which also resembles Ultraman's color timer when his time was running out from fighting!! Even their attacks are also similar and this is a shocking fact some pokemon fans may not realise earlier!!

Staryu and Starmie have been my favorite pokemon since the series debut in 1999. I remember it very clearly, the first episode I ever seen was everyone putting the fire out in celadon gym and Misty sent out both Staryu and Starmie and I didn't know much of the series yet, I thought they were a matching set and were both beautiful.
Favorite Pokemon to this day. I've literally had one of each in every game I've played to mimic Misty.

I defeated Giovanni in the Team Rocket Hideout in Celadon City's Game Corner and my rival Gary in Pokemon Tower in Lavender Town.

Also Staryu did use Recover in Cerulean gym battle against Ash.
It wasn't technically Recover, but more an ad-hoc ability like Waster Absorb
1:17 Water types are rock types' greatest weakness. So wouldn't Staryu and Squirtle using water gun on Onix and Geodude make them weak?

Definitely considering it! I'll probably cover Richie or Gary first. I'll start experimenting with new formats in the next few months once I get some of the larger Pokemon out of the way (i.e. Charizard)

It didn't actually win Butterfree. It was a tie.
From playing blue version, I always thought staryu and starmie, shot water from their centre.
Then the anime came around, and staryu starts shooting water from the tip of its top point.
I was like.........yea that makes sense?

If Starmie would have a mega evolution then it be Misty her true ace and stay as her true ace. Since now it is Garydos. Although I think Golisapod would be cool for her too
Hmmm, that'd be an interesting for her. I haven't considered it before! It would definitely help her overcome her fear of bugs.
The tomboy thing is what makes me think it could fit. I'm fine with her ace now being Garydos tho. But I wish they just replaced her Goldeen with a Magikarp and then I'd be okay with that.

Oshawott is one of my faborite Unova Pokemon (I just wish it evolved)
noivern isn’t as weak as people made it out to be
It beat a zapdos and tied with a Salamence and other mons
That;s a good battle! Definitely would have been interesting to see if Noivern could have kept up its attacks on Zapdos had Team Rocket not intervened
It didn't really beat Zapdos, just convinced it that they weren't his enemy. A feat in of itself.
Noivern didn't "beat" Zapdos, The battle never ended
And While it was cool that Noivern fight with Zapdos, that Zapdos was tired a lot by Team Rocket and Hawlucha
