  • "Kalai Procedure" for brass & copper utensils is one of the old traditions/trends of Asia. Also known as Tin Coating Process is the procedure of coating brass or copper or any alloy by deposition of metal tin on it. In Pakistan, even in the region, Qalai shops are losing charm as the use of brass or copper utensils has become obsolete. They have now replaced with glass, plastic, ceramic or even stainless steel. Kalai or tin coating on utensils at the time was common as it was comparitively cheaper instead of replacing utensils people use to tin coat the utensils. According to people associated with this profession, qalai/kalai is now expensive, the import of qalai material is costly so the trend has become rare.
