Absolutely love watching all these dyno runs. Factory and day 2 or period correct style builds Richard!!! Please keep it up. I always enjoyed ENGINE building more than building cars lol. But your killing me on the lack of mopar small mopar builds.
Richard, I just watched a video by "Nicks Garage" dyno testing a factory spec 340 six pack. It wasn't running 100% but had electronic ignition. With the factory exhaust manifolds it made ~360tq 330hp. He said because it was a customer's number matching engine he wasn't gonna whip it. Ran as you do, no accessories. The question is, with a set of longtubes is there enough on the table to bring it up to lt1 or boss numbers? By not 100% it had a bad stumble when the secondaries opened, it looked like the float level was too low. Nick said factory replacement hydraulic cam and that might be what stops you, with only .444 lift and questionable valve control if the lifters pump up, you won't get the 7000rpm blasts like you do with the solid cammed ford or chevy.
I've got a milder combination of the boosted 383 in my pickup. Smaller cam on the 355 min my 1990 k2500 daily driver. Smaller roller cam. Trick flow heads, comp roller cam, vortech supercharger and Holley sniper tbi efi. She's stout, but that 800hp 383 would be rad.
The Blueprint power adder 540 is a screaming deal for what you get! That engine with an F1A-94 would be a lot of fun for a serious street strip combination, and it still comes with a warranty. I really respect the guys and gals over at Blueprint, they have a nice product for a great price!
A two fer on boost. I love it. What would be the reliability of these engines on boost. I don't need that kind of power on a regular driver. That much in a street car is asking for trouble. For the money I would like to put it in my drive to the track foot brake car, through the mufflers, as quiet as I can get it, run a good number, consistently, not have to beat it to death, and drive it home. Silent but deadly consistent foot brake car. keep it going.
I know a TON of people would love to see a 318 build for street strip. So many people just do budget builds and daily driver style. Most guys that want a hotter 318 do a .030 over with Keith black kb107 pistons and ARP rod bolts using a set of stock full floating rods which gives ya close to 10:1 with thin head gasket and a set of shaved 360 heads with 2.02/1.60 heads. From there which is fairly budget for most guys would just need a choice cam for some good rpm. With the 318 and some rpm ( needed to make good power) this is a combo alot of guys would like to see built. Steve Dulcheck has build 2 making 415hp but they lacked a solid cam and the heads where small valve magnum on one and small valve la or the other and all with vacuum in mind and idle quality. Would love to see you work with Steve to try and build a 475+ HP 318 thats a pump gas 91octain motor that rpms 7000 or so. Hell keep it even more budget and use 273 rockers. Love to see this or similar 318 build with a air gap. Which they always need the ports opened up to match the 360 heads as the intake is in-between 318/360 heads. Then throw on a STREET Tunnel ram with couple of 450 holleys and show all the na sayers a 318 CAN make power. Just needs more cam, compression and heads like any other motor. Can't tell ya how many times people just say build a 340 instead. Really a .03 over 318 is 322. Thats only 18ci less than 340. Its not hard to hit 500hp in a 340 with right combo. Well if ya made it this far Richard thanks and get ahold of Steve. I know he said he wanted and had the parts to do this. He'll ill ask nicely. Pretty please. Haha. Thanks for sharing and taking the time for such a great channel.

I bought a new ZZ4 for $2,999 back in 1998 when I was 19 years old, it would be cool to see you play around with one of those (stock bottom end and head castings). I was disappointed with it's performance at first because I was choking it with old exhaust manifolds and an Edelbrock 600cfm carb. Once I put proper D shaped long tube headers and a 750cfm Holley on it felt like it gained 100hp/100tq. Maybe show that aspect as well. Cheers.

Is low compression ratio really required for these forced induction engines? In one of Brian Tooley's videos, he is saying it's a thing of the past, and that he knows people who are running 14:1 CR with over 60# of boost. That's if I recall correctly...
Michael Angelo i find low compression responds slower using boost. Depends on the engine injectors etc. Have it up 9.5 in 1 compression least than used boost. Just gives it a head start. Sometimes 8 or less compression bogs out when it takes off. Example 2014 GT 500 5.8 V8 has 9 in a 1 compression. I seen it taking off and seems it responds a bit slow. When the boost catches up or the engine finds where the torque is. That 5.8 should of been 9.5 in 1 compression with the supercharger. I think be around over 700hp also torque be probably higher too. Better than 662hp.
Just found this channel today. Watched a pile of your videos. Just subbed. I replaced my stock LB9 with a Crate ZZ6. Love it. Question: have you tested the 69' Pontiac HO350? My father keeps telling me his 69' firebird will dust my 3rd gen with the new ZZ6. lol
Crate motors are the only way to go for peace of mind and dependable tq/hp. Why even mess with junkyard unless you're going to throw mucho $$$ at the thing and make something one-off. Add to that the idea that the engines are simple as a claw hammer and you have a winner without damn headaches and surprises.
How well do you think the 383 would perform with an s480 with a 98mm turbine wheel and 1.25 ar housing? This would be a great motor to drive around on gate pressure with like 4 pound springs, then have the ability to double (or more) the power at will.
Sir why did not go any further with BPE 383 for testing purpose although u said that it is for daily. Iam curious about top hp and can we make 4 digit hp with it
what I took away form this is "Boost Makes Everything Better". that ZZ454 is a serious engine even without boost. I have been considering that same XM284HR cam for my 396 rebuild I am doing for my camaro. it's 9.5:1 compression with aluminum Edelbrock Oval port heads and a Performer RPM. I figured it would be around 480-500HP and around 450-470 torque. Now I am thinking about adding boost....
Any videos on low buck sbc power similar to a low buck or junkyard LS vids you've done. Would be cool to even see the dyno graphs of a low buck LS with a turbo compared to a low buck sbc with a turbo. Something like 327 vs 5.3 or 350 vs LS1.
I am looking to get the same 383 from blueprint and run a turbo set up on it. On e85 just not sure what power range is safe for me to run this motor at, or how much boost is safe
I'd like to see some different testing on a turbo or centrifugal supercharger inlet modifications. Open like you normally test them versus a velocity stack. I see that boost increased by .7psi with only 100 rpm increase. Also test with a small filter and a larger filter my setup has a 3.5" inlet with a cone filter. I just got a 4" to 3.5" reducer and a 4" filter. I want to help out my little vortech v3 si supercharger.
I've been binge watching your videos and love them. What my simple mind refuses to understand is the horsepower and torque curves crossing at 5250 rpm. Everything I've read about it still loses me. Do you have an explanation for someone who seems to be a kinda dense?
If you run ambient water, not much difference, if any at all. If you run ice water, you will see a difference but how much will depend on the combination.
