Yeah, Why Not? | Shrek: Smash n' Crash Racing (PS2) Review - HazyGray

Near the end of the PS2's lifespan, a Shrek Racing game was released by Torus Games. Is it any good? I dunno. Why am I reviewing it? I dunno.

This game just popped in my mind and nostalgia made me download the game for PCSX2. It's already installed and I can't wait to re-experience my childhood one more time. I used to pick donkey back then but now I'll try to beat the game without picking him up haha. thx for the review

I still have my copy of it on GameCube. It still holds up. I can't wait to play Dreamworks All-Star Kart Racing on friday. The game is going to have 7 reps from Shrek. Shrek, Donkey, Fiona, Puss, Kitty, Lord Farquad, and Death. I wish Gingerbread Man was playable. He's my main in Smash n' Crash Racing lol. I remember wanting to get Dreamworks Superstar Kartz back in 2011, but I'm so glad I didn't. It looks bad. The sequel game All-Star Kart Racing looks way better.

I get your points on what is good and bad, and it hits the nail on the spot. If they remade it, and corrected those faults. It would be a banger and could maybe have a Shrek: Smash n' Crash Racing 2 even what would be a late for one to come out.Than they have to imput the latest movies as maps and playable characters. Those from puss in boots, and some easter eggs even from the shorts.

11:04 Tbh though, you held it down, instead of braking or letting go of the boost button.
You just have to get used to the way certain characters play as they all have their different stats (sadly not displayed).
Donkey and Humpty are the S tier picks.

Yeah, I noticed that about Donkey. The jump from Shrek to him was immense.

@@HazyGray Yeah, Shrek has bad turning when going fast.
I've actually played this game a lot and know some tactics and put them in catagories:
Shrek, Puss, Red and Goldilocks in the Animals/Gallopers section (bad turning, good speed, low acceleration).
Prince, Thelonius, Gingy and Pinocchio in the Horse-riders section (good acceleration, low speed, good turning, but goes bad when going very fast).
And finally Pigs, Donkey, Fiona and Humpty in the hoverer section (balanced and best turners, but also the op section except pigs; characters are a mixture of some with good speed, low acceleration like Donkey, and opposite of low speed, good acceleration like Fiona).
Pigs feel the worst to play for me, due to the slow speed and their mat causing them to slide a bit when turning e.g. if you turn right, they will slip a bit to the left, when you stop.
Overall though Donkey and Humpty are the best (Donkey is used more due to his speed and his camera angle, since his is the most above angle, since every other character has their camera behind them).
Fiona is good, but she isn't fast, unless she has a boost item, plus her stun time is very long when you get hit.
Fiona alongside Red have the longest stuns in the game when hit, whereas Puss has the fastest recovery, so Puss is one of the more better galloper characters and I reckon would be underrated and scary in the hands of a pro player if the game had online.
But yeah, the flaw for me with the AI is that they will never attack you (dev coded them not to for some reason) and they only attack each other; only the freeze hits you, since they're coded to instantly use it like the shield item when they have it.
In the DS version however, they will throw items at random, but PS2 and Gamecube, they will use projectiles on other CPUs when in a certain range and for Pumpkins and traps, only when another CPU is perfectly behind them to be hit.
One more fact is that you may notice the difference with the AI on some tracks on Mirrored and the normal tracks.
Normal Swamp map, I have a 30 second gap, Mirrored however can be under 10 seconds sometimes or 15-20 seconds if I'm fast, so yeah they increased their speed I feel on Mirrored, hence I play that one way more, since it's more fun.
