This is the first demonstration of this type with a palette knife. Wonderfully done. Thankyou. I think it's just what I need to get my enthusiasm back for painting.
Thank you. I'm glad this has resonated with you. Using a palette knife to paint offers the benefits such as creating thick impasto textures, precise application of paint, and the ability to easily blend colors on the canvas. Just remember start with an easy subject matter you'll have a fun journey without being too overwhelmed. Happy painting.

Perfect! I'm new to painting, having fun learning. The palette knife was a mystery until your video.
Hi Ellie, welcome to the mad world of creative fun and adventure 😄 Thank you for connecting with my work and channel.....just remember, know it's always about colour and shapes. Keep a creative journal along the way, you'll be amazed how far you will progress in 6 months time. Happy Painting and keep those palette-knives moving with paint. 👋♥
Omg I’ve always wanted to start painting and the way you’ve explained why you started using palette knives chefs kiss now I know I want to start!!! Thanks again
You are most welcome! For years I was frustrated not knowing how to achieve crisp vibrant colour.....and then the palette-knife appeared. AHA moment! The palette knife keeps the pigment tight, so when light catches the tone, it has a higher reflective power. Our eyes perceive this as a crisp vibrancy....Happy Painting, M
Thank you for demonstrating this. Figure eight... got it. I like that you included both wet-on-wet and dry. It was helpful to us visual learners. Thank you for sharing your gift with others :)
My absolute pleasure. Appreciate your kindness. Keep that paint moving daily. Start with painting small and easy subjects, they are great for getting to know the palette-knives nuances. Happy Painting ❤
So helpful! Your work is so colorful- love it!
Grateful thank you ❤ Color, a most loving and happy obsession. Happy Painting, M.
I watched this while on break in a bakery, so the "icing a cake" description was very applicable 🎂
It was kismet, love that! The video was meant to come your way.... Oil paint feels like room temperature butter, and since I love cooking with butter, I figured... Well, at least painting can't make me gain weight!..............Why did the butter go to art school? Because it wanted to get a little "butter" at palette-knife painting!....Happy Painting, and may your artistic journey always be as smooth as spreading butter on warm toast. ❤
Great demonstration. Thank you.
Most welcome. Thank you for connecting with my work and the channel. Best wishes for a creative day.

My absolute pleasure. Practice and continual painting, refining in every moment with different subjects, has been the key in my work. Can I use these techniques with the knife with Acrylic painting?
Fabulous video! 🌟
Glad you enjoyed the video ❤Acrylics lack texture and dry quickly, but you can add texture and slow drying time. However, for me personally, oils have a buttery feel that acrylics can't match, making them ideal for palette-knife work....
Wonderful explanation!
I personally think of the movement of the knife as skiing or snowboarding🙂🙂
Oh my, that is a brilliant metaphor! Love it! Spot on, while skiing and painting differ in appearance and purpose, both are about; precision and movement, creative expression, energy and flow, risk and adventure, tactile experience, skill, control and expression........note to self, next holiday on the slopes. Happy creating. 🙂
@@realartiststudios I'm glad you appreciate the comment! Your description is even better! I don't have currently much use for the technique, I paint mostly abstract with brushes, but will give it a try sometime! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for this!
My absolute pleasure. I hope you get the opportunity to have some fun moving paint on the canvas. Keep those creative ideas flowing.
Nice tips thank you
My pleasure. Thank you for connecting with my work. Happy Painting, M.

I use palette knives but until now didn't know how to do it properly! Thanks
Glad this video has inspired and helped. I'll be putting together a follow up video on which palette knives are best to use both for beginners and intermediate artist. I've ordered a new set of knives, to demo with.....and once they arrive I'll do a new video. Thank you again for connecting. Happy Painting, M
18:15 this is the very instructive part for the highlight + the 8 motion movement when I just had a flash of understanding. if you are not a teacher you should definitely teach students.
Thank you for your kind words! While I'm not a qualified teacher, I've conducted many art classes and successfully introduced even the most novice students to the joys of painting with a palette knife. Glad you enjoyed the video. Happy painting.
I must comment on how well you explain.
You are methodical,.
Your ideas and thoughts build on one another in a systematic way.
Clarity !
_____________
Some things can't be easily explained.
For example, how different knives behave with paint.
The shape, size and flexibility of the various knives all have a bearing on how the paint moves.
The particular qualities of each knife show themselves through continued usage.
In time, you will automatically reach for the knife that does what you need to do..
The knife becomes an extension of your body.
Be patient.
Thank you; I value your feedback. Over the course of 20 years, I've gathered numerous valuable art tips, and I prioritize sharing that knowledge in my videos, as best as I can (not the most proficient videographer/editor.....doing the best I can in that department). Condensing how teaching art information can be challenging, I believe those who resonate with my content and watch my videos can establish a solid foundation for painting and mastering the palette knife technique.
Your description of how palette knives behave is brilliant and on point!!! I dedicated a year to creating less-than-perfect art in order to fully grasp the intricacies of working with palette knives. It was undoubtedly a challenge, but the experience proved to be immensely rewarding. Best wishes for a creative day. Happy Painting, M
Have you ever stored the mixed hand lotion pastels?
Hi, not sure what you mean if I have stored pastels? From time to time, I have used sennelier soft pastels for sketching, which have a very smooth buttery feel when I paint....Thank you for connecting with my work and the channel.
I think concave is the term you needed.
ruclips.net/video/Loy0qQYnR4E/видео.html This is where the practical tutorial begins, for anyone coming back to look at that! Awesome video, thanks so much for posting!
My pleasure. Happy creating in the studio. Keep that paint moving. Best Wishes, M. :)
Why have you changed the shape of your knife at its tip. What is its use. Please advise.
I'm not sure exactly what you mean by 'changing the shape of the palette-knife at the tip"? What I think you are referring to is my favorite knife that I use. The shape of that palette-knife is a little warped and distorted due to ware and tare. I've had that knife for well over 6 years and because of constant use, its shape has changed. Hope this helps. Best wishes for your day, M.
l am in Tamil nadu mam you teaching is nice .painting interested by I. do'nt.painting please teach me mam
The hardest part to painting is starting. Begin with small subjects and find local teachers. Between physical classes and watching on-line art tutors you will start to gain confidence and reach your destination in no time. Best of Luck.
At the beginning you say you hope we can get one nugget from your presentation and I think that is some chunk of time to spend for just one thing. I realize what you are doing is not really that relevant to the way I am wanting to use the painting knife although you are reinforcing all the things I am becoming aware of wrt chroma variations, value variations, hard versus soft transitions, focal points and directing the viewer etc. All explained clearly and well enough there to stick with it.
Then MY nugget. I have been thinking, maybe only subconsciously, that at some point I will make a breakthrough and the paint will just start flying on the canvas and it will be easy with a great outcome. But you point out that it is all WORK, that everything starts with knowing exactly what you are going to do BEFORE anything hits the canvas. For me that is a big help to keep in mind NOT to assume you will be able to come up with all the brilliant solutions during the painting when it was not clear beforehand. Great job, keep it up, thanks for the nugget!
My pleasure. Have a wonderful creative day, M
Love the knife
You using acrylic paint I gather?
Scrambling or scumbeling?
Could we reduce the level of music in the black ground…….what is it with all the you tube casts with music in the background…it’s so distracting sorry
Totally agree. It's gorgeous music, but it makes it so difficult to hear what's being said and detracts from the tutorial (which is great btw!)
Yes, back off on the music a bit
