    While the celebrant's skull does seem like a pretty underwhelming weapon, there is a niche that it fills well: It's the lowest stat requirement option for pure int builds that want to use waves of darkness or pure faith builds that want to use golden land. Especially at sub-meta level those points saved in endurance and strength really make a difference.

    Another thing about the pickaxe is that it can't be powerstanced with great hammers, only with great axes.
    Also, after the 1.06 update, you can, in your first playthrough, get two greatstars. When doing the Varré questline, he will ask you to invade people. Instead, if you go to the Autus Plateau, you can invade an npc. When killed, he will drop the Great Stars. The other one can be found in a carriage near the area also.

    Beastclaw greathammer has a strange unique property: it has a few attacks with Damage Level 3 where other great hammers have Damage Level 2. It will hitstun some PvE enemies that won't be hitstunned by the identical attack from another greathammer.

    I'll also make the argument that a moveset without much variation is good for mixing up. If your R1's and R2's look the same, then people can't reliably roll into you based on the animation they see. Part of why great weapons are so easy for people to dodge isn't just that they're slow - it's that their moves pronounced and their large size makes it easy to see when someone starts an attack compared to a smaller weapon or a less pronounced animation.
    Great spears, despite being just as slow, still benefit from their more subtle and low-to-the-ground animation compared to great hammers. It's these subtle things that make a big difference when rolling in these games is so imprecise and forgiving.

  • @monsieurdorgat6864

    Yo Cright - even more reason that Great Stars is based: weapon arts apply the weapon's bleed and also anything currently buffing, it, like Bloodflame Blade. Bloodflame Blade on Great Stars is absolutely crazy - especially on multi-hit weapon arts like Eruption and Prelate's Charge!

You must be locked on, but if you are, the projectiles do not seem to have a maximum range, and will propagate all effects currently on the weapon: the heal, the bleed, any and all Elemental or Status damage from buffs or infusions, and the effect of "Last Rites".

    Personally, I'm a fan of the Great Mace. I've been running with my favorite build so far which is just a Str/ Fai build focused on Wild Strikes and Bloodflame Blade. I use Great Mace for just running around and fighting shit but Great Stars for any serious fights. I just think that Great Mace is just a more aesthetically superior weapon. It worked especially well on RadaBeast because Radagon is neutral to fire while Elden Beast is weak to physical. So I just went in, shredded Radagon with Bloodflame Blade, let the buff drop, then just beat the shit out of Elden Beast without it.

    BONK
    Fun fact about Pickaxe, it can't be "power stanced" with any Great Hammer, but it CAN be "power stanced" with Greataxes. However, one-handed Greataxes (including "power stance") will bounce against Greatshields and hard enemies like the mining guys, while Pickaxe will not. Indeed all Great Hammers don't bounce one-handed. This makes Pickaxe probably the only "Greataxe" worth "power stancing", but only with itself since adding a real Greataxe in "power stance" will cause bouncing against such enemies.
    Moreover, many Ashes of War that involve hitting with the weapon itself will do more stance damage with Great Hammers than other Great weapons, which includes Pickaxe. Yet again, in terms of utility, the best "power stance" Greataxe is a Great Hammer. This advantage disappears when two-handed though, since two-handed weapons don't bounce anyway.

    Pickaxe is a lot of fun to use. The moveset is very simple but it's very easy to psych out opponents and mess up their timing because all the moves look very similar but have varying speeds and slight animation tells to them. i.e. the 2h r1 has you wind back and slam the pick down as a pretty telegraphed attack but the 2h r2 has you lift the pick straight up and drop it down without any wind-up. If your opponent is looking for that tell-tale 2h r1 wind-up to dodge, it can be really easy to catch them with the r2. Plus you get to use stuff like Flaming Strike on a high(ish) AR piercing weapon. it's fun.

    Fun fact about occult infusions on weapons that only have str scaling normally: the str scaling doesn't get dropped as hard as it would on weapons with both str/dex.
    For most players this doesn't matter, but if you're at high level PvE stuff, an 80/80 str/arc occult infusion can beat an 80/80 str/dex quality on most of those weapons (for Great Hammers, that means Large Club, Brick Hammer, and Great Mace - the Club for regular Hammers is the same).
    Sadly though the only weapons I can find with only str scaling and base arc status effects are shields like Spiked Palisade and Fingerprint.

    • @antares2OOO
      @antares2OOO Год назад

      Str/arc is insanely busted. I have a character with 54str 69arc and weapons with high str scaling are super busted with bleed infusion. Guts sword for example has only 7 less AR on a Blood infusion than Heavy, and deals 169 bleed buildup. Virtually same AR with broken bleed buildup = extremely broken setup. I run giant hunt and literally 2 shot people with 2k hp.
      Im pretty sure if you take Arc to 80 the Blood infusion will surpass Heavy on the Guts sword.

    Could you do a video on damage types? For example Uchigatana always have more AR than straight swords but it does slash damage, not standard. Maybe a video about what does that mean for pvp, etc. Maybe you can touch on elemental damage as well, holy maybe bad in late game yet it performs sometimes better than flame art on Faith builds etc.
    Anyways, great video, thanks!

    Hard disagree on Lightning not being a worthwhile infusion, especially if you use them mostly 1h (like me). 22-24 Str really isn’t that much of an investment at meta+ and the wet de buff means you’ll almost always be doing more damage than other elemental options.
    Also worth mentioning; whilst Large Club is mostly crap outside of its range, it gets decent AR Cold on a pure Str, comparable to other heavier, shorter GH. Pairs well with Nobles Estoc which shares this same property. Good for RL90 ish invaders w/ 50 str 👍

    • @Chrightt
      @Chrightt  Год назад +1

      Looks like you've never messed with the infusion calc on my discord. At PVP levels (125~150) 50 ~ 80 investment lightning will do less damage unless your enemy is wet vs just a raw heavy (and sometimes even if your enemy is wet it'll still do less damage). And then imagine relying on wet to do damage when you can do without.

    I just want people to know I got better pvp damage with great mace moving from 79 str heavy to 30 str, 45 fth sacred and having all the buffs. Then going to sacred curved great club did even better dmg with more range.
    You’ll laugh but running great mace as dex with lightning infusion and 19 dex also put performed pure str heavy, especially in liurnia. Lightning had the absolute highest damage out put and I used lightning slash for the buff. Lightning at 60 dex doesn’t let me have Barrier of gold however, which is worth much more to me than doing maybe 10% more damage. HTK is still the same across sacred/lightning.
    One last thing: fire has to be the worst damage type. Fire zwei was doing ok damage against me, but when the guy one handed the zwei it lost damage and couldn’t over come my vigor/str resistances and lost trades to my sacred slender sword. Using flame art Morningstar vs sacred small club with less AR... it seemed the weaker sacred club did better damage against meta set ups.

    • @Chrightt
      @Chrightt  Год назад

      It is likely that you were playing while enemy was in the rain/rain+puddle. I've checked numbers for lightning vs heavy and lightning loses even at 56 dex vs counterpart.

    • @holyspear26
      @holyspear26 Год назад

      @@Chrightt I realize I typod and said 19 dex but yes I ran it at 60 and 75 dex on two experiments. Combining 10% buff on lightning slash with shrouding tear. Rain was a huge factor for sure, all those buffs with multiplicative stacking and weather are nasty. And the dex scales physical too so it was doing solid damage against any build and the ash can occasionally one shot the 45 vigor types.
