It is not only whether to do or not a Masters in USA; the more difficult part is getting a job after the Masters and getting an employer to sponsor H1B. Even if sponsored, the chances of getting picked up in H1B lottery, as of now is one out of six. H1B lottery takes place in April but employment can start only from October 1. The employer should be prepared to wait for you 6 months for you to join. Unless you are an exceptional candidate, no employer will keep the post vacant that long: instead fill it up as early as possible. Please consider these aspects before spending lacs for a Masters in US.

After completing the master degree, usually students will get job. But for outside students the cost is very high. Lakhs of rupees or thousands of US dollars are required. After getting the job, students can make up the costs within 2 or 3 years. America is very costly. People do part time job during study. But America is good for future generations i.e. if they will get permanent VISA ,then it is good.

Folks, you got be really serious when you spend so much money with no return other than a good education. In 90's MS in US was a lottery ticket to a good job in US but it is no longer the case and for someone to come to US with the promise of a wonderful life is stupidity these days. For families that can waste 30+lakhs like water its not an issue but for middle class families you really have to think if that is what you want to do.

Congratulations Madam for your eloborate and MS cost informative video. It is really a good one video who would like to do MS in US. One thing I would like to add for any type of treatment is extremely costly and very difficult to consult a doctor. One or 2 months we have to wait for an appointment of consulting doctor. Medical insurance is also very costly. During study students can do part time job. 20 hours in a week. Some students illegally doing more hours, but once he caught, he will be packed to his own country immediately. After struggling all these things and completing MS, then to get a job is very difficult nowadays. Moreover, even if you get a job, any moment lay off can be expected.
My son has completed MS 2 years back in US, we spent around 60 lakhs ( even after doing a part time job) Most of the part time job is working in a cuffe or any departmental stores which have to be in the designated area by university. University to university rules may be changed. Till now my son could not recover one fourth of the money we spent.
Hence before leaving for the USA, all these things to be analysed. Some students get extra ordinary packages also similar to India. This can not be predicted.❤❤

The cost here is totally an under estimate. Anyhow, after all this hardships what students assumes is that he will find a job & all the financial burden will be over.
But the reality is that the US is now saturated with foreign students. Supply is more than the demand. So naturally not everyone will get job.
Just imagine that this time there were 7 lakh H1B visa applicants for 1.8 lakh available visas.
So every year no of student intake is increasing, there is a huge stagnation.
To add to all this, because of recession like situation companies are on a hiring freeze.
Situation may improve with time but take a informed decision.

Be careful about the money you plan to spend for the degree as you may be competing with IIT M.Tech guys for the same jobs as outsourcing and AI are increasing.

I'm sharing the current situation regarding the job market and sharing a few tips:
    1. The job market is in terrible shape. Students are struggling even to secure internships.
    2. Most companies refuse to sponsor visas and have frozen their hiring processes.
    3. Investing more than $20k-$25 in college is a significant risk if you plan to come here. The prestige of a college matters mainly if you attend a top institution like UPenn or Stanford.
    4. Getting a job is difficult unless you have substantial experience as a software engineer, developer, or in software applications and development.
    5. You are unlikely to learn anything extraordinary in a master's program. What you’ve previously learned, combined with online courses, is usually sufficient.
    6. Don’t get lured by these consulting agencies: research (in-depth research) college, rent, and the courses you want to pursue; try to connect with someone in the US.

One way to get scholarship or funding easier is to apply for a PhD program. (yes people can apply directly for PhD after finishing their undergraduate.)
It can help if you have a lot of interest in research and such things.
Then, Usually, the university will give you admission + funding together as a package, only if when you apply for PhD ( if they cannot give you funding usually they will not even give you admission so you risk only admission fee)
Then after you complete your degree requirements for masters in about two years, then sometimes people can change their mind and they can just apply to their department to graduate with taking a masters degree only, and not continuing PhD program.
This,of course, will not get you a job, but it will help you do your MS with funding and paid tuition from the university.
So if you wanted to apply to 10 universities maybe 5 can be for PhD and 5 for MS programs.( in case you do not get admission into any PhD program.)

If you go for Ph.D., you will be funded as GTA or GRA. In case you are funded as GRA, you are paid out of your advisor/professor's research grants. It is extremely competitive and difficult for most professors to win these grants. If you are funded as a Ph.D. students, the advisor usually does not expect you to deliver much of any valie for first 1.5 to 2 years while you learn to do highly specialized or challenging research (most of these grants are about faily ambitious - high risk, high reward research). So if you quite in 1.5 or 2 years, you basically waster that professors very hard won research funds invested in you. Do conider morality of this choice. Plus, in some departments which has seen this starategies by (usually south Asian) students, they have figured out a way to punish the students - so don;t count on this as an easy way out. There is less of a problem if you are a GTA because then you are providing services.

Crap.. What opportunity you provide an abroad graduated person? Unfortunately we don't have world class universities, no investment for future technology. Only body shopping, doing low profile coding and BPS work which are going to be replaced by new intelligent systems.
Government should investment money for the next generation, make competent for future technology and innovation hubs. All we know is tax people who are earning some money by their blood and sweat

Recession is expected in 2025, and this time it would effect multiple years. So better postpone the idea of spending 50 to 70 lakhs per year. Instead invest the same in Indian Stocks (be careful, Indian stock mkt would also go down along with US stocks but would recover earlier than rest of the world). Save your parents hard earned money. Once you are done with MS or other course, you may not have a job due to market crunch. India is much much better than any other country now. Jobs are better in India for qualified ones.

    • @sanm4836

      Short answer is no
If your visa is refused, but you already got admission then you can ask the university to delay your joining by one or two semesters. Usually up to one year they will accept a delay in joining
So hopefully when you apply next time, you will get the visa

    1. You have to be extremely smart to be hired with just an OPT
2 Then be extremely lucky to win H1 lottery
    3. Then be able to live and work beyond age 100 to actually get a green card
while praying current immigration law doesn't get any worse.
