    Thanks for this. Seems like there's a finesse to this as well, a lot of the time the dipstick will slide past the stop in the bottom and hit the bottom of the pan giving incorrect readings.
    Watching the video and in my experience, the bottom of the yellow plastic should hit right above the radiator hose.
    Also, all that crap is HOT down there, wear a glove!

    Super helpful, thank you for posting! As an FYI, I have a 2018 RAM Promaster 1500, same engine and trans. It does not have this engine oil dipstick, instead it's the braided cable one and I wasn't willing to file in marks on that. So I did end up buying a random dipstick for under $10 and followed this advice!

    • @YouWrench

      Perfect, thank you for sharing you experiences!! Yes, great tip - you can of course buy any cheap generic dip stick and mark it in the same way and keep it in the garage for when you need it. It does not HAVE to be done on the cars oil dipstick. Nice tip, thank you!

    First off, annoying that chrysler and mopar decided the transmission doesn't need it's own dipstick anymore.
    Second, it would probably be a good idea to clean off the dip stick with something like brake cleaner before checking levels, ATF and motor oil are two different beasts. Putting a small amount of ATF into your engine oil is an old trick to help clean your engine and if taken in moderation shouldn't harm it, putting motor oil in your transmission can make it rip itself apart and do damage.
    Third, it would possibly be a good idea to buy an engine dipstick from a junk yard and set it up as a dedicated trans dip stick, it's cheap and just as effective as adding a couple of marks to your motor oil dip stick and can just be stuffed somewhere in the vehicle or in a garage for when you need it.

Wonderful and helpful advise. My transmission just started shuddering, so, now I am ready to get the work done myself. I will search if the millimeter markings apply for the Promaster as well. I assume it may be a standard Chrysler setting.

    There was smuggling but the specialist added oil to the car . Today I measured the oil level when the engine is running 5.5 cm, is it good or too much?

      Yes, 55mm would be a good warm level, as covered in the video. Sounds good! www.paypal.me/youwrench

    I'm not getting how you determined your millimeter measurement from your tape. My calipers is way different result. Am I missing something here?

    • @YouWrench
      @YouWrench  3 года назад

      Hey there! You just need to measure from the tip of the dipstick to the measurements outlined in the video. You may have got a little confused by the tape as I'm starting my measurements from the 10cm mark on the tape as this gives an accurate starting point, often more accurate than starting from the end of the tape which has the hook end. But you will see, it goes from 10cm forward by the increments outlined in the video (example from 10cm to 14cm is 40mm). Hope that helps!

    Where can I buy the real dipstick from for a 2019 ram promaster?

  • @Ipfreely-ne2is
    @Ipfreely-ne2is 2 года назад

    Would it be the same or similar for a 2011 dodge journey? I have a sealed Transmission with no dipstick just like that caravan you did. Same engine as well. Also, there is a small leak in the tranny pan gasket. Not sure if i need to add fluid. Or how much to add. Because it shifts hard sometimes

    • @YouWrench
      @YouWrench  2 года назад

      If it's the same engine and transmission then yes, in theory, it should be the same (but please do some Google research to be 100% certain. We have a few videos on our channel about the transmission, including how to do a full fluid change. You should start with this video: ruclips.net/video/f3xlwDFxrbU/видео.html and you should definitely look at doing a fluid change to at the very least stop the leak. Leaving l;ike it is could damage the transmission (leaking, hard shifts). That video is here: ruclips.net/video/Rd-bgNYVkfw/видео.html - Hope that all helps! www.paypal.me/youwrench

    When I push the dipstick in it hangs up a little bit, if I push just a little harder it seems to pop free and go in another 40mm or so then stops solid. Am I doing this correctly?

    • @YouWrench
      @YouWrench  3 года назад

      It may be worth taking a quick look at the transmission fluid change video (here: ruclips.net/video/Rd-bgNYVkfw/видео.html) as that shows you the inside of the chamber that holds the fluid and you can see where the dipstick comes in and fits into a metal bracket/frame. You should not need to push hard, just push until it stops. It sounds like the hang up you describe is the correct depth, and when you push harder it may be popping off the frame and deeper into the pan. Take a look at the video above, it will make a little more sense. Hope that helps :-) www.paypal.me/youwrench

    Where did you find those measurements that you reference for the levels? Is this universal or does it vary by make and model?

    • @YouWrench
      @YouWrench  3 года назад +4

      It was sourced from the Dodge Workshop manual. No, it is not universal, this is just for the Grand Caravan/Town & Country 3.6 V6. The same principal of this dip stick does apply to different models, but the levels can vary model to model. The levels in this video are specific to this model.

    For now I'm using a ruler, but am troubled by inconsistent levels...In my Toyota, I'm used to dipping with the engine hot and running....In my Caravan, the hot ATF level rises from 25 to 45mm after the engine turns off. Is it too low or spot on? Is the reference condition engine off or on?

      As per the video (please rewatch carefully), the level should only be checked with the engine running.
