    Got a pair of Mackie MR524s this week largely based on your reviews. I use them on my desk as multimedia speakers, and so far I'm completely satisfied with how clear they sound. Had tested some other speakers that costed twice the price of the Mackies and didn't sound this good or clear. The Mackies are powerful enough, but appreciate the fact that I can also use them at the witching hour at very, very low volumes (got a 2-year old sleeping next door) and still get a lot of clarity and details from my music. So thank you for your awesome work (the written content on the blog is especially helpful) and greetings from Italy.

    Listened to both for a couple hours. Mackies sound crisp and go surprisingly low (not as low as he jbls). The highs are tighter, but almost adam like. But not fatiguing, and the dip switches can remedy that. The JBLs have a great low end can reveal more what happening at the upper sub levels but its more muddy and unfocused in the upper lows where the kick resides. The highs sound like Club speakers to me. Everything is there with detail, but when you listen to a more neutral tweeter and upper midrange you can hear things more accurate than on the 305P. Now if you make electronic club music the JBLs are spot on. For everything else, the Mackies have a better sound to me. Makes me wonder what the 624 is like since the 524 has a smaller size than the 305P. Both are an exceptional value.

      A lot depends on what equipment you are watching the video. With proper headphones differences become more apparent. I know because my perception changed completely once I started using my Sennheiser 560S, with some correctional EQ - they can tell you what is happening throughout the frequency range. The previous el cheapo headphones could tell much less, especially in the bass region.

      The 524 are a lot more musical than the 624, which has a very dark and bassy sound. Voices are a lot less clear too with the 624. I was expecting the same clarity than the 524 with more bass, but instead it made everything sound more muted and unclear.

    When looking at the specs online, I thought the JBL would have been the winner. They really know how to sell their product (generally, in a good way). But after I listened to this, I gotta say I think the Mackie takes the cake. For me, the JBL is a bit too harsh in the higher frequencies, and they didn’t connect as well to the mids and the rest of the sound. Mackie did sound slightly warmer than I would like, but I think that that can be easily overcome if you are conscious about it when mixing. I think my problem with the JBL is more of an issue and, overall, Mackie takes the cake in my book.

      I haven't heard the adams, but I bought both the jbl's and the mackies and set them up on my desk to compare. I'm no expert in this area, but for mixing/mastering i'd take the mackies, but for general music listening I liked the jbl's a little more. The Mackies were a touch more balanced with really good separation and clarity. The jbl's made things sound live and dynamic with a bit more soundstage. Both are super close though, I had a tough time deciding, ended up keeping the jbl's. As for other options, my friend works in music retail and has said really good things about Kali LP6's, Kali Audio was started by a few former engineers of jbl.

    I think the Mackies smoothes the guitar on 'the man of fire' just a little too much, The JBL holds the edge of the notes better and gives a better growl to the guitar. The Mackie does add a little more overall weight but it seems to come at a cost of a little leading detail and edge. I would probably mix and master more on the JBL here and retire to the Mackies with a glass of wine.

    Mackie wins for me. The JBL sounds too shouty, maybe due to the horn like waveguide.

    JBL has a boxy sound, it really weird....so hype... its not pleasant to listen. Mackie is more balanced and has a great bass response. Opnion of a person who have both monitors.

    Neither the JBL nor the Mackie sound very good compared to the Source Track. Both sound thin and dry in comparison. Where do we get the Source Track speakers? ; -)

    JBL - 5 years warranty
    Mackie - 1 year warranty
    Hummm also they get very very hot so that might be why they only get 1 year of warranty :/

      The hi-hats are what did it for me too. JBL doesn't sound as harsh, but I think we may be in the minority on that opinion. Regardless, I just bought the JBLs with their 10" sub and they are arriving today!

    mackie is better - jbl degraded the "budget" speaker sound, the mk1 was better.

    • @simasp7189
      @simasp7189 5 лет назад

      Why? Seems like they only changed a few things, jacked up the price 50%, but I believe they are the same speakers, essentially. Great sound, loud hiss.

    • @Overdozeofthedemoscene
      @Overdozeofthedemoscene 5 лет назад

      @@simasp7189 less coherency between the drivers, but tonally something is not ok at these recordings. I cannot imagine, every speaker has the same tonal problem compared to the original recording.
