It looks like you and Brian landed in a lovely space and so happy for you! I am seriously confronting my maximalist tendencies as we are moving in May and I am doing a serious downsizing. Letting go of furniture, crafting supplies, clothes. Long overdue. I stopped buying newing things five years ago but never did a deep clean to get rid of the stuff I no longer used/loved/needed. Its nowhere as minimalist as how you and Brian live, but feels great to strip out the nonessentials. You are inspirational!

I love the idea of minimalism, yet love to create and have what I create around me. Imagine your beautiful art arranged together on a wall, to enjoy and make you smile! So, I am not a minimalist...so what? I do cut my own hair, tho...Covid"s gift to me. Now I can have a new hairdo whenever I desire! Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! You and Brian have most certainly earned it!
A long time ago I read a book called “Consuming Faith” about how people who believe in God have a responsibility to spend wisely and not fall into the consumerism trap that our materialistic societies want us to. It woke me up.

So nice to see your joy and relief in your new home. Consuming to create, that’s a good approach. I’ve always kept a journal/planner/notes book. I don’t use my phone or apps for this and really enjoy creating my own daily pages with paint and coloured pencils, collage, etc. This time is my daily calm and creative time with no distractions. Life is much more than the stuff we accumulate. I am 68 and have decluttered so much stuff that I found I didn't need. It was a waste of my time and resources. A lesson learned late in my life. Hello Ana! So good to see you! Look at all the open space in this new place! Much room for dancing 💃🎶! I agree that there is no need to buy more stuff just because you may have space for it.(Guilty) Writing paper is a must. Craft supplies are a must, but craft items seem to multiply and scatter, and must be minimized and controlled. That's what was on my mind when I went to bed last night. So, today I am heading out to find a small chest of drawers to replace all the small storage boxes I've collected for supplies over the past year. This will make everything accessible while being confined to one space beside my desk.
It's a great tip to keep the supplies under control! 😍 And haha, I'm afraid I'm not a good dancer at all 😅
This flat looks very nice, I'm very happy for you ! I hope you can settle a little ! Consumption... I don't have the money for it anyway ahahaha so no risk ! But I don't lack anything at all so it's not really a problem. I would like to be able to travel more, that's the only thing I really miss. I use the thing I have, I'm more an optimalist than a minimalist, I'm gratefull, I buy something only if the one I use to have is broken or thorn, I bought one thing in december : a carrot gratter to eat more raw carrots, but I was thinking about it for 2 years... and in january I bought a bunch of sustainable and long lasting tights as the one I had were all worn out ! I don't need anything in february... my money is for eating and paying bills. But I have lots of things I love... I can make me a latte in a nice cup and listen to music on YT with my phone, watch the landscape through my window in an old danish thrifted armchair with one of my grandma's embroidered cushion and my cat... isn't life perfect ?

I've recently started making cold process soap and while it's possible to buy so much for this hobby, I'm finding more enjoyment from using oils and herbs that I already have at home to experiment. I have bought a few things, but I think what I really want is to get a good understanding (through experimentation!) of how the ingredients I already have work and then buy a few more things strategically that I think will compliment them. I've made about 15 lbs of soap so far and I think I need to find friends to give some away to lol.

It was wonderful to see how well you are doing and to see some of your new home. It looks like you have a good deal more room to spread out in your current living arrangement - spaciousness is a gift we sometimes do not appreciate - it is also true that having a smaller, snug space can be wonderful - I suppose ones current state of mind can determine which is better in any given moment.
I also wanted to say that I celebrate your not having a video a week ago, especially if it was a healing break from producing a video every week. It also might have assisted you and Brian getting settled into your new place, without the pressure of creating a new video. As always, you offer a good deal of insight this week, which I am taking to heart and deciding how I might incorporate some of those ideas into my life. I think material items buy happiness, but it is very limited. Long lasting happiness comes from having created something, much more than having consumed it.

I have had that same box of Blackwing coloured pencils for several years now. Not only are they lovely to use, but they remind me of drawing with my niece when she was little. We made a book together of silly things - that you might be called a “ninny” (short for nincompoop) for. For example, there’s a page of ankles and shoes but the socks are odd, a cartoon series where we did a Christmas themed treasure hunt together but couldn’t claim our prize because we lost our ticket, and there’s a drawing of a foot stepping on a Lego brick and the throbbing aftermath. She now has a love for quality stationery and pens/pencils 😂. I think what I’m saying is that I agree with you - consumption that enables you to create or enjoy little moments in life - like a lovely mug or a cushion you made yourself - is a blessing.

Dear Ana. I am pleased for you that you've found a reasonably secure place to live. It looks nice. Make it your home. I am not really a "consumer" anymore, because I don't have the money. I only buy what I absolutely need. But I am secure in where I live - yes, it's a rental. I've lived here for 4 and a half years now. I joined a community garden close to where I live, and I planted a lot of seedlings. Now I mostly get my vegetables from this garden. That is my way of being creative.

I just flew in virtually from my favorite Polish nomad. Well she is a nomad in Poland but actually she's Dutch. And she made me think of you. She said something about calmness. And I remembered that I saw your video this morning when I didn't have time to watch it. I am glad that you have found a place to settle for a while. It looks very nice.
I'm not a minimalist I think I'm a packrat. I don't have money so I don't buy a lot but I did buy two pairs of leggings with fleece lining and water resistant so that when I go out to get the ducks up and they don't want to get up I can sit down and I won't freeze my little rear end off. Well I bought one pair and then I liked them so I bought one more. Hopefully winter will be over soon but at least tomorrow morning I won't be freezing. Apparently I have a problem with pants. I don't like pants I hate buying pants I hardly ever buy pants and I have tons and tons of clothes leftover from Boston which I pulled out of my closet this week a couple of them. None of them were pants. One was like a sweater but it was like sweatshirt except it buttoned down the front and it had pretty painting all over it. I bought it in Rockport Mass like maybe 25 years ago. And it's been in the closet. I have three others but I can't find them. Maybe they are in the closet in my brother's room. But this one is pretty and cozy and I was able to not have to turn on the heat for most of the day. We don't have heat actually but I have a space heater my brother bought me. Last year or the year before when it was so so cold in Florida and it's cold again. But it was going to be cold for days on end and it was colder than this.
I don't throw my things away because I never had that much money that I could just go replace things. Although I should do something with my size 7 tightly bodiced dresses. No matter how much weight I lose I'm never going to be that thin in the middle again. Right now they're in a closet in the hall. What difference does it make? If I clear out space in the closets my brother will fill it up with all kinds of things. I've known this since I was 17. Although most of the time we did not live in the same house or even the same state. A random thought, the camera in my duck house died and my brother bought a new camera. It was hard for 2 days to not be able to see my ducks in the backyard without going outside through the sliding glass door which is really old and jams all the time. He says it's my fault that it jams but it's not. It's just old. My mother was going to get a new one but she wanted to put it on the credit card for $2,500 and I told her we don't do that unless we have $2500 or it's an emergency. So the door needs to be fixed. It's jammed yesterday and I couldn't get it shut for hours. It has little wheels and I think they are broken or the track is broken or something. Anyway now I can see my ducks again and check on them when I am not outside freezing my little rear end off. By the way my rear end is still little. Doesn't it figure? I would gain weight everywhere else but there is still no padding for me to sit on. Thankfully I no longer have to squeeze myself into people's cars where they make me sit on the hump because I am the smallest one. I don't even know if cars still have humps. They did back in the '80s. I'm going to look at my ducks and see whether the beautiful blue and white one is still sitting on the floor or has gone up on one of the shelves again where it might be warmer. They are laying eggs in all of the little plastic bins that I put out for them. I don't know whose eggs are whose. Oops. But at least I guess they understand where the eggs go. I don't like them to lay eggs out in the yard because then they will want to sleep in the yard and then they might get attacked by raccoons or something else. And it is hard to move their nests. But now I think they know where the eggs go. There is only one new duck who has not laid eggs before. The one on the floor. Hopefully she will figure out the program. She is so beautiful. She looks like her father but female with beautiful white wings and her back is all gray underneath the wings and her tail is darker gray but they call it blue. Hopefully they are sleeping because it is night time but my ducks don't sleep all night. They sleep when they want to. At least they don't make a lot of noise. And they don't quack because they are Muscovy.
Everyone is up on a shelf now.
