I think George hurt Eddie's feelings by cutting his performance short and hovering in his space. I've never seen him do that before.

    • @That70sGuitarist
      @That70sGuitarist Год назад

@@LaJolieFemmeNoire I think you're right on the money there!
So George calls Eddie up front to "talk to the people," and Eddie is positively delighted to do so. He then proceeds to let loose a couple of minutes of fire and fury, "taking no prisoners," then starts to head back again. But no, George is right there, encouraging him to go on, so Eddie obliges and *then* some!
Eddie cuts loose with some *incendiary* guitar riffs...I mean, bombs are going off all *over* that guitar...then all of a sudden, George wants him to "shut the f*** up," and tries to put him back in his place?🤬
He's lucky it was Eddie and not me, 'cause if I were playing like I were possessed by the beast of all guitar gods and someone tried to shut me down like that, he'd have needed a proctologist to remove my foot from his @$$!🤣
Fortunately for George, Eddie was *both* much more talented and much humbler than me, so he fades back again...although not before firing off a few more serious bombs as a final "f*** you," to George!😉
I've shared the stage with some truly great talents in my day, which is why I know that when someone's blowin' *that* hot and heavy, the last thing you should *ever* do is shut them up! Just have the band keep vamping a while longer, and let 'em do their thing while they're at the pinnacle of "heavyosity!"
So you're damned right that George hurt Eddie that night! I've almost quit bands over lesser insults, and I'm nowhere near the beast of a player that the late, great and dearly missed Eddie Hazel was!♥️

There is a tendency for certain people to dismiss Michael Hampton as inferior to Eddie Hazel, like you can't have two bad ass brothers on stage, let alone maybe three or four. George Clinton said that himself "they don't really want to acknowledge that there is more than one bad brother up there, they gotta pick only one". If you listen to all the FUNKADELIC guitarist they have different styles. Eddie was very soulful, Michael is more rock "Blackbyrd" can get jazz fusionist on a MF. Believe me they all do they "Thangs n' Stuff" 🤘

If I had my druthers these are the guitarists if like to see jamming together, of course I'm afraid I'll have to wait till after that long trip home....
Eddie Hazel, Terry Kath, Jimi H., Alvin Lee, Brian May, Jimmy P., Duane, Rory, Eddie, & Glen Campbell. One extreme to the other, but all these cats have what it takes and a lot more. God Bless them all!

when eddie was 18, he said his goal was to make his guitar an extension of his voice. in this video he's 29 and it looks like he accomplished it.

Is this whole concert online somewhere? I would love to see the whole performance. This is the best video I've seen of Eddie playing a solo. This is really nice.

    Amazing. One of the greatest.
Which is more sad: The fact that he is excluded from any mainstream conversation about the greatest guitar players of all time, or the fact that the vast majority of black people don't know who he is or remember their amazing invention/contribution to rock music? Eddie was amazing. This is some great shit!

Does anybody else realize that besides smokin up the guitar in Funkadelic, Eddie was a hell of a vocalist?! In my opinion, he was second only to the master, Glen Goins.

Gary Shider was also a great vocalist. I also dig George Clinton’s vocals.

@@jerrylong6011 Gary n Glen were kinda funk twins vocally. Fuzzy Haskins, and Stingray Davies were outstanding vocalists as well.

Smeero, aka Mr. Smoov. Eddie played as if the instrument had melded into his hands, goddamn.
