    Been there, done that with the SCCA! Back in the 80s and 90s and it was affordable, but the entry fees kept climbing up and up and the whole sport just out priced me. Sooo I left the SCCA and went karting instead. SAME FUN! cost less. Nice video, you put a lot of work in it and it was enjoyable to view. SCCA should compensate you for this work you performed. Do you really keep your Formula 500 outside?

    Really helpful . Thanks for sharing. It sounds like all of the steps to receive a license are justified and make sense for safety purposes.
    So from what I'm gathering from some brief internet research: SCCA license costs more upfront, but is achievable with less track events; while NASA license costs less up front, but takes more track days... so prob about same cost with either license?

    • @benbeames
      @benbeames 8 лет назад +1

      +Clean Tune Both cost money. A lot of the money though is safety gear though which is the same for either. To come into fresh, I'd say really think about what type of car you plan to race, what you hope to move up to in the future and then look at what both are offering. Some classes NASA offers a better program, some classes SCCA is the only game in town. Not to mention you want to check out the participation in your region. The SCCA may have a highly contested class nationally that has hardly anyone in your region participating in, or vis versa.

      All great points that I have not considered myself; thanks for bringing this stuff up. I've been focused on just trying to acquire a license for either organization; I suppose some more personalized research would help.
      If you don't mind me asking, how much seat time did you have before pursuing an SCCA license?

    • @benbeames
      @benbeames 8 лет назад +1

      +Clean Tune The more you have the better. I've probably only done 2 track days prior to this though I've also done a couple different one day drivers school things with Skip Barber in the past. I have had plenty of seat time in my F500 at autocrosses over the past few years, but I'd never driven it on track before. They tols us the first session would be just to let us check out our cars and make sure they were okay. Mine wasn't and then I was doing double duty trying to get it to stop trying to kill me and learn what I was being taught.

    Can you just bring any car and do this?

    • @GoldenGateLotusClub
      @GoldenGateLotusClub  6 лет назад +1

      No. Only cars which pass an SCCA technical inspection are allowed. This means the car must fit in an SCCA road racing class, meet all specific requirements in that class and have all the necessary safety gear including roll cages and fire systems. To give you an idea of the cars, most SCCA racing cars arrive to the track on a trailer as opposed to being driven in.

    Why aren't the different costs enumerated? In everything reported on, on the planet, it's taboo to say a word about the cost of anything. Sure prices go up, but knowing them is still a starting place. The price of this railing is 6 seconds.
