YES.....another storyline and diorama from Barbarossa Models!! Great start, terrific imagery and story told....something to look forward to in the next episode.....can't wait to see that notification.
Thanks Dave, yeah it needed doing! Don’t really understand why they failed to add the extra inch or so onto each wall….would’ve saved me some extra work…😩😁👍
Only just come across your videos, absolutely fabulous scenes and craftsmanship, only recently got back in to model making and really enjoying your videos, given me lots of thoughts and ideas for my own little builds. Hope all is good with you.
Hi Gary, thank you for that, really appreciate it! Glad you’ve enjoyed the videos, the whole aim originally for this channel was just to share my ideas & hope perhaps someone gets something out of them, so really pleased that you do👍 There’s so much inspiration out there with kits, accessories, books, ‘How To’s’ etc etc… good luck with your own future builds, thanks again!🙂
Looks really good. Great work with adding the extra walls, can't even see that they are extra. And the bar inside, like it. Looking forward to seeing part 2.
Thanks Emil, was pleased how those walls turned out, although the joins are visible😞 Would’ve liked a more discrete join but that might’ve meant completely plastering over those 2 side sections & wasn’t up for that…🥺
Thank you Alan, yeah really needed to sort those walls…shame ‘cos the building itself is really nice👌 The wallpaper really begins to add a lived in effect, appreciate the comment👍
Wicked Start sir 99 percent of people would of left the walls as they was but not you sir beautiful work as usual take care my friend 👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏✌️🐑😂🍺🐑🤣
Thank you Neil😌, I’d think a few would try & address those walls, it wouldn’t make sense at the back if they just stopped like that🙈 Cheers as always for commenting, appreciated👍
Hi, yes it’s just printed onto regular paper. I find a suitable wallpaper thumbnail online & scale it down to size (some patterns work better than others). However I use a glue stick as an adhesive not PVA. I find PVA sometimes leaves a bubble underneath the paper if it’s too thick👍
Fantastic! Sign me up for this one. 😁 Where would 1/35 dioramas be without MiniArt accessories and Hornet Heads?! The laser cut wood parts are awesome - very impressive - and using the off-cuts to make the bar... 👏👏👏. Top job with the wallpaper too. Looking forward to the next part. 🍻Cheers.👍
Many thanks Andrew🙏 Miniart accessories are excellent, can make so much difference with all the detail they add. The laser cut parts fit so well in the windows - quality product👌, & the bar interior should look interesting when finished! Thanks again!
Amazing skill….I am lining up a first WW2 diorama myself with inspiration from you’re channel..never done one before as such but gathering bits at mo..Thanks for sharing, Chris
A good eye for putting together a beautiful and coherent scene. The result is already more than good. A nice video about the individual work steps. Have a nice weekend, Simon. Greetings, Joachim
Looks really cool so far! Can't wait to see the finished thing. Currently i started working on my ww1 diorama. Hope you don't mind if i take some inspiration from ur incredible "all quiet under the coffee table" :) Cheers!
Hi Mike, slowly making progress on this one, and already have new kits for the next project, so even more of an incentive to get this one sorted👍 Pleased you’ve found some use from the ‘Coffee Table’, if you can get some ideas from it that’s great! Actually those new kits mentioned are a WW1 dio again… Good luck with your dio🙂👍
Great diorama. I love Your style telling stories. I recently replaced heads from the MiniArt set with heads from Armor35. They fit perfectly, there is a very large selection of shapes and a good price. Cheers !
Thank you Chris, Armor35 made the Barmaley Stalingrad fountain I did a year or so ago, will have to have a look at those heads👍 A few comments from people about those slightly larger hornet ones which which is a fair point😔
@@benward5732 appreciate the comment👍 Have actually taken on board what a few people have said & made a few ‘adjustments’ to those guys. Still kept 2 of the 3, but trimmed them a little more to suit the shoulders & helmets a little better. The 3rd guy has a completely new head from the spares (not a Hornet😏)
Wonderful video and fantastic work Sir!! I have not used the replacement heads yet but need to. Your video and finished dioramas make it look so great I just want that type scene on a shelf in my shop!! (but I have some years of practice ahead of me...) Looking forward to the next video!!!
Hi Bill, thanks bud, have used Hornet heads many times over the years & really recommend them👌 Have had some critique on these guys though which is fair comment. The Miniart figure bodies are slightly smaller than their counterparts meaning the heads are slightly larger. Don’t want to really change them though so going to try & reduce them down a bit? TheHornet catalogue has a huge number of variations for all kinds of figures - definitely worth a look… I don’t think you’ll need ‘years of practise’ to achieve something like this, not with the quality of your recent Tarawa dio😯👍Cheers, thanks for commenting!
😁 Had this discussion with myself at the time. My thinking was if I go out to a bar/restaurant I would always open the door outwards…? To my house the door obviously opens inwards, but in a public place I think now they have to open outwards (fire safety). In 1940’s Germany obviously I have no idea….🤷 Like the question though 😁👍
Think I’ve only ever done 2 British based dioramas in the past, so one is perhaps due! However think I’ve got the next 2 or 3 projects in mind so maybe it’s one for the future👍
Great looking build. I wonder why different companies make heads and other body parts slightly different sizes then other companies. 1/35 scale is 1/35 scale.
Depends on the base dimesnsions of the 'Average' Human being. The Jeep for instance in 1:1 scale was scaled for an Average Soldier being 5'8'' , to me as Average 1950's born, they are a tight fit.
Good point Tom, it is annoying…🤬🤯 I’ve had that issue before, it’s usually when mixing plastic with resin figures. For example the MK35 ‘little old man’ is actually the largest figure in this dio….so as usual I can’t place him in amongst all the others ‘cos he looks even more daft. So he’ll be separated from the rest of them, try to lessen the effect. I know some people who either use just plastic or just resin figures in a model to avoid this…. which is a shame but sometimes necessary😩
Excellent build, great attention to details, love the compisition/layout 👍 Sorry, but those Hornet heads have to go - great detail but noticeably larger than the torsos!
Thanks Jerry. Had a few comments now on the heads, appreciate that they aren’t 100%, and do look perhaps quite comedic, but I do still like they’re quirkiness…😏 Good to have feedback on these things & hear peoples opinions👍
I have been looking forward to this diorama build as I have the same building. I see you changed your mind as originally you said you were going to move the walls back rather that build infills? I think I will move the walls and pavement back and make the road wider! Nice work so far.
Thanks bud🙂👍 Yeah I remember I wasn’t sure at the time what I’d do…. Decided to extend the walls to allow more room for an interior. Bringing the whole building back would be the other option like you’ve done, allows for plenty room at the front for perhaps a bigger vehicle…? Thanks for the comment, good luck with yours👍
Great work as ever, but have you got any information or links to where I can get drawings or sizes to get the right scale for doing buildings etc I work mainly in 1/35. Thanks in advance!
Hi, I don’t have any measurements or particular sizing to be honest. I don’t make too many scratch buildings, but if I do, I usually use either a spare Miniart door or window as a guide. Failing that I just use a figure as a measure for the height of a doorway, a window, or the height of a floor in a building….. There are probably some guides or advice to be found somewhere, but I haven’t seen any🤷♂️👍
Thank you Camille, glad you enjoyed! Yes you’re right about the heads, despite being 1/35 scale, but I like their expressions, & on resin figures they’d have been fine😩 Happy though with them, at least I didn’t decide to use the ‘giant’ old man😁👍
Thanks Vincenzo…, yeah I appreciate that😩 Unfortunately Miniart’s figures run a little small, a few others have mentioned too but think I’ll persevere with them, I do still kinda like them. Maybe just hide them behind some rubble or something….?😄👍
I really think that Hornet's heads are ruining the figures. They are too big for the bodies, out of scale. The made the figures some kind of ridiculous. Of course, it's just an opinion. Letting this out, the idea is original. It's a great idea. Thank for share. (Think on the heads...)
I think diffrent. To me they give the look that the soldiers are really singing with gusto and putting effort into it. We really need to se it in the solid. Persceptions change.
Hi, thanks for the feedback👍 I get what you’re saying about the hornet heads, as you can see on the video they are slightly bigger than Miniart’s ones, down to Miniart being slightly smaller 1/35 figures, rather than the hornet heads being too big? Perhaps they’d be more suitable to Verlinden, Evolution figures etc…, but obviously those resin heads are perfect already😞! I appreciate the thoughts, & pleased I haven’t begun painting them yet in case I change my mind, but I do still think they give them character, & not everyone’s cup of tea, but think at the moment I’m going to persevere…😕✊
@@Barbarossamodels I agree with you. Perfect expressions for your awesome idea but if you add the 'oversized' heads and the 'undersized' figures (as you say)... In any case, it's your work. And I insist, the idea is wonderful. Keep waiting for the final result. Thanks for your reply. Regards.
its is sad this hornet heads are actually 1/32 scale owner of hornet heads accepted that issue last months in his facebook page and miniart figures are smaller than other manufacturers so this heads does not fit the bodies of figures in your diorama just saying no offense. Anyway keep up the good work 👍💯
Ah thanks Yasin, that would make sense why they are big, if they are actually 1/32 (although sold as 1/35). First time I’ve had an issue with Hornet & that would explain it! I’ve changed 1 of the guys already, but trimmed & left the other 2….just decided to go with it…🙂 Thanks for the comment & explanation 👍
nothing to say about the diorama, a great job as always. but the heads of the figures no, as well as being out of scale they are definitely absurd. they have a really unnatural expression and spoil the diorama. obviously it's my personal opinion. best, Alessandro
Hi Alessandro, thanks for commenting. I know what you’re saying about those heads, unfortunate theres no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to 1/35 scale figures😔😩 The Miniart guys definitely run smaller compared to their resin counterparts, and although not perfect, I still think they’ve given the guys character, especially compared to the straight faced, solemn look of the original heads. Appreciate your opinion though, good to hear people’s thoughts…👍
Looking forward once again to watching your work
Thank you, very kind🙂👍

Fantastic dio Simon, love the story and the scratch additions you've made 👍👍
Hi Ian, cheers mate! Those off cuts came in handy🤗👍
I think my favourite detail is the wallpaper. how do you make it? do you just print it on regular paper and then use pva to glue it to the model?
Hi, yes it’s just printed onto regular paper. I find a suitable wallpaper thumbnail online & scale it down to size (some patterns work better than others). However I use a glue stick as an adhesive not PVA. I find PVA sometimes leaves a bubble underneath the paper if it’s too thick👍
@@Barbarossamodels thank you! yeah, a glue stick makes sense, PVA is probably too wet for regular paper and it would make it crease and make bubbles.
