So happy to see another WW1 diorama from BM.....your work is always a pleasure to watch and so much to be garnered from each build. The commercial products look great and a fine starting place for this diorama.....but cleverly reimagined by you! Bring on No. 2 ☺👍
Outstanding Simon. Impressive instruction book for the Amoured Car using the blue highlighter for adding the new parts. I like the Belgium Infantry figures that you are using, I am putting them in a early WWII setting as I think their uniforms did not change that much from the Great War. Greatly apperceive of your time and hard work in putting this diorama together, it is a cracker!
Thank you so much Mark, really appreciate that🙏Yeah that instruction book was excellent on so many levels… Nice idea to use your figures for a different time period, painting those traditional uniforms will be fun. Cheers for the comment 🙂👍
The blue uniforms were only used at the beginning of WWI. As the other nations the Belgians quickly adapted to more appropriate uniforms for trench warfare with khaki coloured uniforms and Adrian helmets.
@@flitsertheo the ICM kit actually has the Adrian helmets in the accessories. With the box art however showing the other hats I guessed the helmets weren’t used until further into the war - which proved right😊👍
A very impressive diorama, well arranged, Simon. Very skilful and dynamic arrangement of the figures. Great conversion of the figures! The diorma scene reflects the street fights very well. A very nice project. Best wishes, Joachim
😁Thanks Bill, was a little ‘concerned’ if they’d look realistic enough, but pleased with how they did! That Green Stuff Putty was excellent btw, for building up the figures or simply filling small gaps, would really recommend that👌
@@Barbarossamodels You bet Simon, well deserved!! I have heard of green stuff, but haven't tried it yet. The front lower pocket you did looked great! I guess there is a book by Shepard Pain on building figures on wireframes, Id like to see if I can find one. Ive done simple swapping legs and stuff, but never really sculpted like you did and think that would be a worthy skill to learn. Your videos always leave me thinking of cool new things, Thanks Simon!!!
@@ScaleModelCraft There’s some really excellent figure builders around, producing incredible work, although struggled to find much about it on RUclips. Give it a go mate, definitely worth the effort..😁👍
Great progress, looks amazing! This is a perfect example of using a commercially available product but making it your own (with lots of extra work, of course). That reference/instruction booklet is a nice touch. Not a trench diorama but still adding some water and mud, I see (a good thing because I love your trench dioramas) 😉
Thanks as always Jerry…👍 Yeah these bases are great & instant, but as you say it was nice to give it a twist & a personal touch. That’s why I set it in a larger deeper base, plus I’ve a nice idea for the front display of it too🙂
Looking good! Nice work converting the figures - seems you didn't need to do much to make big changes. Very inspiring. The Plus Model set looks good. I've just ordered their gramaphone and radio set. They make some great accessories. The crater is very well done too. I look forward to your next update. Cheers. 👍
Thank you Andrew, cheers for that! Was a little weary trying to convert those guys, first time I’d really tried anything like that but they turned out as I’d hoped☺️ Love Plus Model sets, really nice resin pieces - thanks for the feedback🙂👍
@@Barbarossamodels ok there’s someone called Andy’s models and stuff on RUclips who made an awesome tutorial on a piano? Sorry for the random suggestions 😂
@@wafflyfox7550 😆 No worries, actually Miniart make them & almost had one of them in mind for the street blockade! For the house itself, although I’ve 1 or 2 items I could use, the interior space is really too small to fit anything of substance…👍
Nice video just saw you video on liberation project as well (although you are of course you are a crappo it's nice to see someone else from Ci showing their skills). I'm no where near as skilled but would love to make one about guernsey.
Hi, thanks for that….appreciated. Always nice to have some ‘local’ feedback - actually you assumed too quickly there, live in Jersey - born in Guernsey…😁😊👍 I do as well have a Guernsey project in mind perhaps for one day…. something along the lines of the German air attack on the Tomato lorries at White Rock in June 1940🤔💡 Would struggle to find suitable figures for that perhaps, but it’s an idea!👍
@@Barbarossamodels that's a great idea, never thought of that, since you were born over here I'll let you go 😄 My great grandpa was actually there and as soon as he saw them drove off quickly and avoided the chaos
Thanks… you mean something for beginners?? Haven’t really considered anything like that tbh, might be something for the future? Though don’t really know where I’d fit the time in, these builds seem to take ‘forever’ already…😁😅
Nice work. Just one thing, maybe take a look of the end of the railroad track above the gap. Now the railroad track looks to straight cut down maybe put some tracks in the gap or somthing like that. if you know what i mean ;) but great work👍 (sorry for my English grammar😉)
Hi Jan, yes I know what you mean - good idea! I might bend that track a little, & I think I’ve got some extra to put into the hole too… Thanks for the feedback 🙂👍
Would you recommend the company that made the base you used, or is there one you prefer over this one? Also, do you recommend these for someone who is new to dioramas?
When you say ‘base’ I guess you’re talking about the farmhouse? This is the 3rd building I’ve used from Gero Design, the other 2 being made of plaster. This is the first one I’ve made however using the wood, as opposed to plaster or plastic, & it’s the most enjoyable building I’ve made! It takes quite a while to glue the dozens of pieces together & then there’s putting the plaster between the wooden joints which takes time… Plus this building comes with no instructions, so needed to refer back to RUclips modellers to get some advice. For someone new to building dioramas I’d definitely recommend their plaster buildings with the ready made bases. The 2 Gero buildings I’ve made previously on the channel took literally seconds to put together - 3 walls & a base - easy!! Here’s links to those 2 builds here:- ruclips.net/video/Qgzc9pXbPOY/видео.html & ruclips.net/video/YojMXttiZAE/видео.html Hope that’s of help 🙂👍
@@Barbarossamodels I meant the plaster street from great north roads. I think you may have gotten confused, this is the gallant little Belgium diorama, not your most recent one. I’ve never seen plaster dioramas and was curious how beginner friendly they are. I’ve been wanting to make a warhammer 40k diorama for a while now and I think that with a bit of tweaking that their bunker 2 and fire base dioramas would work pretty well, but I’ve never done anything like this before and figured I’d get your opinion
Ahh sorry…my fault, didn’t look at the thumbnail pic first🫣🫣🫢 Tbh the Great North Roads building & base was nice, good value & they’ve a really nice range. Detailing however, especially with the cobblestones isn’t very defined - they’re very smooth compared to other companies, some of the brickwork too. But they’re a strong product, well priced & I would look at using them again!👍
@@Barbarossamodels thank you very much! Since I’m looking at bunkers and trenches, I doubt brickwork will be such a big deal. I assume just regular glue will hold them together?
Fair point…! There’s probably a number of adhesives suitable, PVA glue has worked for me before, but using wood glue recently creates a really strong bond! So either one perhaps will do👍
Thanks Luke - good shout!👌 The ICM kit’s title is ‘1914 German Infantry’, so naively I thought to use them..😳🙈 But now reading up on them, it looks as if the stick grenades didn’t come into use until 1915! So let’s just say these guys were ahead of their time….!😁 The fact the Belgians have them is simply the case they’ve been captured from the Germans. But I still think I’ll keep them, I like them as a detail… Thanks for the comment 👍
Another cracking diorama, can’t wait for part 2
