"not too bad for a first try" dude you've gotta stop underselling yourself, This is AMAZING for a first try! I tried making a water diorama with a crashed F4 corsair, which I was fairly happy with, but your first try is leagues ahead of most peoples!!
@@LeoMastroTV ...what? He's an experienced hobby modeller working on his first water diorama. Of course he's gonna do better, despite not creating this exact type of diorama, since he already has mastered all the other steps. Your trust issues are problematic, kid. Get yourself checked or something.
The debris looked very realistic to me. Hearing the pain in his voice as he felt the perfection need to paint it all was understandable as an artist, but it already looked so prime.
Didn't it though? I was very impressed by the entire idea that he even thought to INCLUDE it.
My father was a professional model painter for model shop windows during the 80's (AIR FIX MOSTLY), but also made his own robots etc, he was a maser of the art, It was pleasent seeing such skill in the video as it brought back memories and the fact actual talent still exists in this field, I paint very well myself and have thought about getting back into it now I am 43 almost. Great skill my good sir, from the 🇬🇧 uk.....
I have the highest respect for people who take the time and effort to produce art that is so exacting, and requires such discipline to accomplish. I have a friend who has that kind of mental capacity, and has put it to use, in my own presence, many times.
I was at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts once, and saw an "art piece" that consisted of a plastic stool that is used in most libraries with a box of Kleenex on top. The box was open, and the Kleenex were sticking out of the box...
That's it. That was the "piece of art that the Minneapolis Institute of Art" had decided to exhibit on it's floors [that shared the space of such artists as Gustav Courbet, Bartolomeo Passerotti, . Pieter Bruegel the Elder, William Bell Scott, among others].
My own mind is FILLED with artistic ideas, but I have no talent to bring those ideas to life. I am glad you have that ability...GO FOR IT!
I know it appears as though resin “creeps” up edges, however, it actually shrinks as it cures which is why it looks like this. The body of resin has shrunk down leaving the edges where is has stuck when in liquid form. Absolutely beautiful piece by the way!
maybe a combination of both? Because liquids will defenitly creep up certain materials
Wow! I watched more than a few of your builds and I can't compliment you enough on your attitude and the care you show towards your subject matter and the sheer amount of fun you're having with this art. Thank you!
Man! I wish RUclips would let me hit the like button 50 times. Ever skilful, ever honest, ever growing and ever entertaining. Respect to you "Ma Friend!"

Bro I thought the thumbnail was a movie Preview💀💀💀
Same
I'd be curious to see this lit by a cloudy day...the resin would also reflect the color of the sky, and I've wanted to see how your figures and builds look in daylight.
yeah i was thinking it would be cool to submerse cloud decals or something into the resin.
@@brianpeck4035 Huh, interesting...
the end has cloudy lighting on the piece. while not the exact same, its pretty similar.
Fantastic result. I love to watch your videos because you are not afraid to show mistakes and how you correct them. Plus, you always do it in a humourous way. Keep posting.
You are the reason I live for Fridays!!!!
Just got back to the internet, been looking forward to the finish of this one. Fantastic, I can hardly believe it. Looks like a color photo.
Great work. I've done this with model railroads. You did your research. The points you talked about are spot on. It's easy to do and even easier to mess up. Great work and another amazing project!!
Absolutely incredible work-technically, artistically, storytelling-wise. An elegant monument to both human folly and creativity-with time, as always, getting the last word.
Its the little bits of detail that make the overall piece have such realistic qualities. Your work is amazing as always. 👍
This is incredible! I have built a big diorama with a hundred naked women swimming and sunbathing around a waterfall, and I used Woodland Scenics water and water effects. Some of it worked well, some not so well. I made the waterfalls from thick strips of water effects and streaks of cotton wool, and they look pretty good, but the plunge pool went a bit cloudy. It basically works, but your water is way better. The water is probably not the first thing you look at on this particular diorama! I tried to show it on RUclips, but I got a three- month ban.
Im being honest i don't even see the mistake about it getting cut in half you did a really good job covering it up 👍
He seems highly critical of himself just like me, but I can't see it either. We are our own worst critics.
Mesmerising! You have a great gift,it’s called patience! And I wish I had more of it,great job!
I am deeply interested in The Great War and I am really happy to see that you made a diorama from that time period. I hope that you will do more WW1 related stuff in the future.
I second this. Truly incredible work mate
Lack of experience , bloke your models are phenomenal works of art , love'em !
Another fantastic build, enjoyed every moment
Wow! That's one of the best dioramas I've seen on RUclips fantastic well done!
It turned out great in the end! I really enjoyed watching this series, and your work is amazing. But your way of describing your process is equally impressive. Bravo!!!
That took some real modeling guts to saw the tank in half considering how nice the model is. Your final results were outstanding. Exceptional work!
Great way for me to end a day of doing art for college, fantastic work!
Pls don’t fail it and go then go into politics.
@@nathanhamilton3857 The bad ending
Honestly, your Inspiration is timeless and beyond quality, thank you
Dude I've never built a model or diorama in my life, but I thoroughly enjoy watching you talk us through the process. Lots of nuanced intricacies, it seems. Cool dude!
Have to say... Well done sir! I think you have captured the mood very well. Everything came together seamlessly!
Excellent series and excellent diorama....."Ma Friend." I find your videos to be not only quite informative, but very enjoyable (nay entertaining) to watch. Plus it is inspiring to see someone try something they have never done and come away with such fabulous results. Looking forward to the next one!
Sir, you have already mastered the technique. Keep going. Man, you've got the 'weathering' down so pat.
"Sweet dreams my Epoxy child..." is the funniest Night Shift line to date :D Beutiful build NightShift!
I cannot believe how absolutely amazing your work is! I am a history buff and your videos make me salivate at how accurate they are!!! KEEP IT UP!!!!!!!!!
All your work is great, but I think this is your best so far - certainly as far as dioramas go. It is quite a poignant piece, particularly with the backdrop photo of the shattered trees. Well done Martin 👍🏻
I’m not a modeller but I’m hooked on these videos, your an artist sir, fantastic work.
Brilliant work! I was thinking a oil/fuel slick leaking from the tank hull could also hide the cut hull.
Awesome. In microbiology we do the same thing. We use a flame (typically a Bunsen burner) or hot wire to remove bubbles in agar Petri plates before they set. Looks great!
That's far more artistic and beautiful than anything on display in the Louvre.
If I was born with any sort of talent, I've yet to discover it.
And times getting short😂
"Not bad for a first try" - Dude, you are being way too polite. THis work is downright amazing!
Youir passion, your dedication and your knowledge on the topic shows. Considering the level of information that you sank into this video.
For future epoxy water dioramas, I think the water on the opposite side of the tank from the wind direction should be more still. Either way it looks phenomenal!
Your work is phenomenal! Please don’t beat yourself up over a few twigs and leaves in the mud. It is so realistic and reminds me of stories my grandfather told me when he served in France in WW1 as a 16 year old from London. I’m sure he would approve of your work. I love what you share. Thank you.
I love the subtle variation on the surface of the resin, it looks great! I appreciate the now classic thumbnail that looks like a colorized historical photo. I am very excited to see what comes next!
Amazing work just look super nice and the comentary of your real thoughts made it even more worth the watch.!
Absolutely fabulous! Just stumbled upon your video and now subscribed. Thanks for keeping history alive accurately, and in an entertaining manner. Cheers from Barrie, Canada.
I love the way your diorama turned out and using the tape for the epoxy resin scared the crap put of me because I've never seen it done like that
Hi Martin,
Hope everything is okay.
Very nice! I really appreciate your humor and self deprecating attitude. How cool.
Fantastic job mate! I’ve just tried my first epoxy, don’t exactly want to talk about the end result though 😂
leakage or too many bubbles? :(
@@NightShiftScaleModels neither what happened is the resin bent a little 😕 Its fine though
Martin, you sir.....knocked it out of the park! None of it was in any way close to bad. The pour on the resin was job one and you did it. Intrinsic value is key. The journey, not so much the destination. But, the destination in this case was top shelf. Keep up the GW! Have fun and thanks for your channel and the work to get it done.
I think it looks absolutely incredible. The only thing I'm curious about is how it would look if the outside black parts were textured and painted to match the dirt/gravel like someone came and extracted the whole thing straight out of the earth. Idk if it would look any better or worse but just a curiosity.
The outside black flanks imho show some "fakeness" where they follow the profile of the little mounds. A simple horizontal edge maybe would have obtained a better outcome. But this is absolutely nitpicking because the diorama is outstanding. Bravo! As we say in my country "I'm making shoes to the gnats" meaning that I'm exceedingly trying to find the hair inside the egg.
This is the first video that got me back into scale modelling after some family drama and it got me hooked on trying to get the best finish possible, I’m still slowly improving and I’m currently doing an Acadamy 1/72 F-86 Sabre
man looks amazing. i wish i could do something like this
That is a whole new level of genius. Wow.
Fantastic effort as usual. I have a question: how would you go about doing that water with rain effects? It would be incredibly atmospheric if you could create the effect of dreary drizzle coming down.
It could be done with the Water Gel. Somehow poke the gel, or even "pull" small icicles from it... it might recreate that look pretty well, but it would be EXTREMELY time consuming!
wait till the epoxy is starting to cure and use a a needle to poke the water....also wondering if you could use the smallest of airbrush needles and blast thin air to create ripples...I haven't tried that yet.
Most instructive! Your self-critiquing conveys so much more information than if you had just sailed through a narrative of what-worked. Well done, sir. You are a true student of the Craft.
Is he okay ? some patreons have news from him ?
He’s been posting on his Patreon a lot, dunno why no video though
@@Chevsilverado ok thx mate
You are a true Master Modeler. This diorama is very well done. The layering and build up truly adds to the realism you were hoping to achieve.
Night shift where are You ?
Hopefully just on holidays !
I showed this to my son. His response?
"That's really cool. It looks great! What, did Luke Skywalker crash his tank on the Dagobah System?"
Out of the mouths of babes....
Ask him if I should add a Yoda figure trying to lift the Mk IV :D
That would be AWESOME!!!!!
WOW! You're an Artist! This is a 3-D Color Photo brought to life...
That is a thing of beauty. The thumbnail picture looked particularly excellent.
My friend. This is the first time I have left a comment since subscribing to your channel. Let me thank you for the high degree of professionalism contained in every facet of your videos. They are beyond amazing. The words you use and your method of describing what you do makes learning both easy and a joy. Your word speed is perfect. Never too fast and you don’t repeat yourself like so many do. Your photography is spectacular and that’s something I know a lot about. I feel privileged to learn from you. Your work is remarkable and your humility makes these videos a total joy to watch. It’s like a spectacular meal at a five star restaurant. You just can’t wait for the next course. Please keep doing what you do. Guys like you and Luke make the time spent watching worth every second. Best wishes.
I will never get tired of watching this type of video, well done with this one.
Absolutely brilliant, you could wade through it, best I've seen in ages. I can't wait for the next mud hole
There are no mistakes, just learning experiences, great video and loads of tips. Thanks for all your work.
Or as Bob Ross would say: "There are no mistakes, only happy accidents."
Excellent job and like the water effect has water is never still the slightest breeze will cause to ripple Thank you for posting the videos on this project
The thumbnail made this thing look super real. Amazing job with this Night Shift.
Wow that water puddle looks SO impressive. Perfectly executed!
That is a work of art ! Even I bet even someone like Leonardo DaVinci would be blown away with you painting skills. This diorama series is a great reference that I’ll watch again
Yeah, when I saw the thumbnail, I said to myself "no way this is a diorama, this HAS to be a photo"
@@Puschit1 I mean it's still a photo
A photo of the diorama
One of the finest dioramas I've ever seen. At several points I was screaming inside, "Now stop. Leave it alone". But you pulled it off! If I had one critique I'd have left the figure off. The desolate feel was perfect with no human element.
This sort of stuff has always impressed me, the sheer time and effort that goes into every little detail is just amazing, can’t wait to see more
That turned out fabulous. I had to take a second look to realize it was a model on the image on the RUclips main page.
Amazing work as usual Uncle! The realism you have given this project is outstanding. We all look forward to the next one.
Cheers from Australia!
Finally a side of RUclips I haven't seen but will fall in love with
Fascinating. And you're very modest, refreshing.
EXCELLENT results -- your experiments are basically all successes; that shows your level of material and application knowledge. If I could make a suggestion, and I am sure that you considered this, I believe painting the water sides would give the effect more visual "depth". In its current application, the actual depth of the water can be seen, but the submerged level of the tank suggests that it is far deeper. Just a humble idea. As always, thank you for the series -- more lessons learned!!
Simply amazing. I actually liked the darker, wetter debris, but it doesn't matter. This is incredible, what a work of art!
Uncle Kovac... To create depth of field effect on the 1st resin layer, you could paint on it of some puddle spots with a darker tone color randomly before pouring the 2nd layer. Great work, like always!
Great job I really like the scene and a super job on weathering on the tank you have an award winner there
This is absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for your honesty about your concerns, admitting where things didn't go as well as you hoped, and how you resolved them. For a first time with epoxy water, I think you knocked it out of the park! BZ from PNW, USA. Got my sub, can't wait to see what you come up with next!
You are gifted when it comes to these dioramas. This one is super.
Your attention to detail is exceptional.
Looks amazing gives me the chills to think the conditions those brave men dealt with
Seeing this video and the absolutetely beautiful final result, inspired me to try out making a diorama with a body of water in it. I got a Swedish S-tank in a forest and infront of a small lake.
And well, I can say that I managed to get that catastrophic result you were dreading. Only a couple of minutes after having poured the resin water, I hear something dripping and low and behold, my masking tape job was nowhere near good enough. I managed to get resin on a shelf, my work bench and even on the carpet somehow and spent half an hour cleaning the mess up with alcohol.
But we don't get anywhere in life without taking risks and luckily the diorama could be saved. So tomorrow I will be trying again and with a lot more tape, just to be sure.
Your attention to detail is outstanding.
congratulations it is true the resin is to be feared in general it never comes out as one thinks but your diorama is really inspiring greetings from Argentina
Excellent work "my friend", another fantastic diorama. WELL DONE!!
It is your best one yet, well done, hugely evocative, love the Tommy with the Lewis Gun
I certainly understand being a harsh critic of self, but I think this is excellent. I thought the debris in the resin was perfect even before you did the touch up work. I'm still a little nervous about working with resin, but i loved watching this.
Your far to humble.... your work was amazing, great video and thouroughly enjoyed watching.... was also very theraputic for me... great work again and look forward to your next 👍

This is so beautyful I have tears of Joy in My eyes :') Love the Barb Wire
This is a very nice Tank…. The old Nites are beautiful
if only my first attempts all ended so brilliantly... wonderful work, absolutely brilliant and beautiful to look at
Holy cow.... This is amazing work. When i saw the thumbnail i thought it was a photo of a real ww1 scene... Truly amazing!
I honestly love your commentary. Your work is brilliant
fantastic job. adding the soldier gives it a 'panzer of the lake' vibe.
Double sided tape comes in very handy sometimes. It’s sticky. Love that little Dremel torch.
Looks amazing. To be able to create your vision is a gift.
this is an awesome diorama that is one of my favourite tanks. I think you nailed it bud!!!
one of my favorite diaromas I've seen on this channel so far!
