This is just absolutely the coolest thing I have ever seen...absolutely awesome..Man how I love the sound of those old EMU's..just the filters alone have so much character..and to think EMU was from Santa Cruz, California...I am from Modesto, CA...and sadly, EMU is now out of business and I cannot figure out why...just such unique gear from them...
I'm hoping SOMEBODY, one day, after the hype has died down on the sheer fact they even have these gems, will consider creating copies or even a Reason Refill, Kontact instrument, etc with all these wonderful kits and sounds. There is huge potential to market this to many genres and many people, especially aspiring dj's and producers who would truly love to remix/reconstruct DM's classic material!
I love how everyone comments on the analog filters. This is the Emax II, it has digital filters. The original Emax has analog filters. You all literally just bullshit with your ears and can't hear the actual difference.
+Chance Granado Friend had first emax and was fiddling with it many years ago. The factory banks had 80's depeche mode all over written on it. I can remember that pretty good, and the fact that it had amazingly good keybed and action. That was surprising.
@@DaveDaves because he buy it from Alan Wilder himself... Alan Wilder organized an auction selling a lot DM collectable items and this sample disc is one of this items
Thanks for great days in the 80's of catchy pieces in all the music you were a part of, and all the best to you and everyone involved in giving me something to enjoy. Poor lil toy looks a little wore out ;^)
Idea of these videos are to share the sounds. Not to show how talented I am or how much I still remember the tabs of some 25 years old songs. So please stop trying to be smart..!
@@zariisofficial Just remember, it's boomers that created these sounds and the tech to use them on.....So before you disrespect someone using that term, just remember it's people like that who gave YOU the world you live in!
Ok, almost all banks are here, you only need one other track to have the entire song. Those track could be played by Martin. Now... what Andrew Fletcher actually do? I am a keyboard player and i know about arrangement and live performing. But I am almost sure, Andrew is basically a null character, probably some sort of manager.
Yes, and no to both... SYNTH wise, newer (as in very recent) is "better" if you don't have the budget for a variety of synths (particularly older ones), but won't sound quite the same and takes time to learn. Sampler wise, newer is often better too, unless you're a diehard fan of a band's sampler. Basically old stuff is FANTASTIC and genuine, but it's often expensive, comes with quirks, sometimes breaks down, sometimes tricky to use, etc etc. It balances out in the end, depends what you want!
So, did you get all the banks converted to Kotakt yet? Keymapping all those samples took me a week, cleaning clicks and pops, and all the layering he used. A SCSI card and Chicken Systems Translator did the trick for sample conversion, but you have to keymap by hand.
@nevermusic001 i agree, the samples should be available either as public domain or at 25$ or so. I would even consider digging out my EmaxII just for the complete sensation :-D

Hi! Everebody Here, we can Organize a Kickstarter project to buy this.. Ozan, What do you think about that? put the price, a give us a change to get this sounds..
I really want these sounds too, but kickstarter isn't necessary at all. Using the digital output of any EMU sampler that can read these format disks (such as Emax, here) and recording the output (possibly multi-sampling) could EASILY change the format of these digital samples to WAV/PCM; EMU's samplers are a bit special in how they do sample-based synthesis so for the very best results it's best to use any of the Emulator series hardware samplers (or Emulator X for PC) but still any sampler could load these sounds and get VERY close.
The problem is that in this video we're not hearing a direct connection of the Emax's output to a recording system's inputs but rather from the ambient noise you can hear that this audio is via a microphone (likely in webcam / on computer) that's hearing the sounds come out of a speaker so it's a very very lossy way, we need the direction connection at the least.
Are everyone's parts uploaded into this particular synth, or is it just Alan's? I ask because I always thought Fletch played the parts at 0:34 and 2:34, but maybe Alan had them on his synth as well as some sort of backup?
Nice demo! I am very jealous you have these sounds! :-) I was going to bid but couldn't find any info on line to see if the samples would work with an Emu e6400? Anyone know?

It is not the main argument but here we can confirm how much Alan Wilder was musically essential for the band.
When you listen to ultra, you just hear the absence of alan wilder.
Wilder was a major part of the band's DNA.
Totally essential. Alan Wilder created the soundscapes from Martin Gore’s songs and they have been feeling his absence ever since.

Most samples will work with 4MB Emax. For Devotional soundbanks, you will need 8MB.
