A bigger header and muffler will help your flow but the best mod to these engines is a Mikuni VM26 carb and manifold. Threw that on my piranha 140 and the bike totally woke up. Guessing your carb is a VM22 which is a touch small for a 140 .
We had one on the farm . Chrome fenders, blue ...I think it was a 71.Abused, pinned all the time, ditch jumping with me and two other buddies on that cushy banana seat . Did about 45 mph on a good day. Loved the speedo and folding bars to get under fences. Bullet proof 👍
I love your camera transitions. They’re a cool little touch that you could just simply cut to next footage but you guys jazz it up. Great channel with great content and great guys doing it. I also love that I can watch it with my kids in earshot and not worry about a constant stream of obscenities. Great work fellas.
I never expected this but I'm ecstatic it has been done and it's even cooler when your favorite RUclips channel does it... These are the projects that really peak my interest... Stay awesome guys
I just rebuilt a set of four of those rfy shocks about a week ago. It is HIGHLY recommended that they be rebuilt and properly filled with oil. If you remove the spring and cycle the piston, you'll quickly find that they are only half full of oil. You should either rebuild them yourselves and make a standalone video on it since there aren't any out there, or I'd be happy to rebuild them for you for the cost of shipping. If you do the work yourself, I'd answer any questions about the work you have.
It tops out at 52 MPH- I think an exhaust alone should get it to 60. It just seems to run out of breath at high RPM. Anybody out there have experience with these engines?
Is there any way to rotate the carb so it can point forward? Or have a small piece of 180 degree tubing to point the intake towards the front. A little bit of ram air and better exhaust should help that motor breathe efficiently at higher rippums.
Everyone always hates on small stuff like this, but they can go anyplace. Fit in the trunk of a car and are a blasty, blast to ride. Also the fuel economy is amazing and registration and insurance is cheap as all get out. I love sport bikes, Harleys and Dirt bikes as well, But for the money its an amazing experience. I had a ct70 in the 90s and it was so much fun. Also repop ct70's are even cheaper.
ah the video is over already dang. I like these upgrades and playing around on the bikes with different combos to see what works better. Thanks for the video.
Totally wicked as always guys been loving the builds and content since i started following the channel from the first iteration of the turbo drift trike
Lots of experience with these engines ! Take a 26mm mikuni with big bore exhaust and freeflow muffler, it'll make noise but will improve your performance alot.. After this you could maybe look for a z40 camshaft kit..
I've got one of those water cooled Yanmar diesel engines lying around (specifically a TF-90). It is complete however I did take some bits off to check things out so those bolts will need to be re-torqued... _Make me an offer_ *:)*
Those Fox shocks are really cool. Love those old CT70s. I wish Honda would do a re-release of those. I’d much rather have one of those than a hyofung or whatever type of mini bike. Thanks for the video guys. I enjoy watching them.
Omg. I love that house and yard !! So cool to be able to ride around on your own beautiful property. Is that some kinda bike path or a private road? RUclips must be paying some serious dividends. 👍
I had a Red CT70 as a kid, great bike, got pulled over by the police on one of these bikes for Riding on a public road under age. I was 12 years old at the time. One thing these bikes are susceptible to frame rot/rust, that clam shell frame can come apart.
a larger front sprocket and a smaller back sprocket will make the bike go faster but it will decrease the acceleration. to fit the exhaust restriction on the cheap, you could cut the baffles out where the pipe goes bigger then weld it up after, i did this on my aprillia sx50 and it was choked up of fumes and burnt stuff, its only done 9000 miles so the quad bike exhaust wont be as bad, it looks a good project and would look great with silver suspension like Ike said :)
I fitted Bilstien PS9 Adjustable Coilovers to my Porsche Boxster S and I am almost also thinking it a mistake. Even on the tallest hight setting, softest bump and rebound settings, it is a little harsh for my back/ spine, kidneys, fibromyalgia ect. John, don't feel bad. You are not alone an installing too harsh a shock. Cheers mate.
The main reason for the speed difference is the internal gear ratios on the 140 were intended for an offroad low speed application where the ct70 engines internal gearing was intended for road use, you gotta remember that the transmissions have different ratios, the sprockets on the outside dont always mean faster as a result
OH, thanks for clearing that up guys! I didn't catch the lighting part, I thought he was concerned about the engine size being over the "moped" limit in the state.
Driving without headlights/taillights is ILLEGAL. Turn signals are optional depending on your state. So yes, it would make it ILLEGAL to ride on the road.
I don't see many if any CT70's in Australia, however, many Honda CT110's, as they are used by Australia Post, as their go to standard letter delivery vehicle, at least from the early 1970's and ongoing today. They are almost unbreakable.
Man i got one of these in a bucket when i was 17 and knew nothing about engines. Whole thing was in pieces and beyond my skill level. Wish i woulda known more wbout it i coulda built it for my brother as a graduation present since i can't ride on acount of being wheelchair bound
I love watching you guys. Love the 140 swap. missed you in Texas. I'm in Houston. even on mini bikes I wish you guys would wear protection. It's hot I wear icon Stryker body armor vest and gloves. riders look out for other riders no matter the size the bike. can't wait for the next video. be safe
nice to see you guys are so mindblown driving a 70cc and a 140cc at 52 MPH you should try a 2stroke bike, can get up to 55 MPH on a 50cc and some have 100-110cc kits that will get you up to 100 MPH
At Steele's cycle salvage in Colorado they have a mountain of those frames I also had a CT70 and I had a trailed 90 4 speed automatic with the high low transfer and I put that motor on my CT70 that was nice
it's like people talking about what the mountain man used and had ! the mountain man had the best most modern equipment that they could afford to get ! they didn't limit themselves !
I race motorcycles and the bike I race uses a yx140 engine which is the one you have. You can get both compression pistons and high lift cams for them for next to nothing and they make a huge difference! I am from the uk so may not be available in us. The cams are called the z40 cams
Would be sick to see a grom motor swap on a 70 although it probably wouldn’t be much faster but you wouldn’t have a problem with the charging system and electric start!
Yeah they're really stiff, especially because I'm a pretty light person. They have a little more give with Ike on it even though he isn't much heavier.
Stick some usd black forks on to balance the after markets look. That exhaust is choking the engine. 26mm carb, free flowing pit bike exhaust, and a play with the gearing as it seems to short. Most 125 road geared pit bikes usually hit 65/70. Also a stator swap is cheap and easy to get a charging system
small suggestion...check your audio levels between cut scenes...at the beginning of this video the levels went way up and down, Otherwise great video :)
It can only get better from here. A new exhaust and a air filter and the right gearing will get you in the 65mph ballpark. Great job once again fellas
Valve adjustment on the gold one is in order.
Put a performance 212 on the mini four wheeler with a torqe converter
My 125 (4 stroke) dirt bike has broken 60 before. Now it did have a 5 speed with a larger front sprocket, but I think this thing can do 60.
A bigger header and muffler will help your flow but the best mod to these engines is a Mikuni VM26 carb and manifold. Threw that on my piranha 140 and the bike totally woke up. Guessing your carb is a VM22 which is a touch small for a 140 .

Me too. No kids but hearing cuss words over and over gets annoying!
The lack of obscenities is very refreshing after watching all the foul mouthed RUclipsrs out there.
@ 17:59 forget the Isle of Man race ... this is exciting road racing right here
stickloaf
Doin the ton...
Amazing the trailer carrying their balls behind the bikes don’t fly off in the tulies
Isle of Man is insanity. Watching helmet cams of that makes my butthole chew holes in my pretty pink panties.
I never expected this but I'm ecstatic it has been done and it's even cooler when your favorite RUclips channel does it... These are the projects that really peak my interest... Stay awesome guys
I absolutely love the thought and logic behind “ I wanna see how much we can get out of the 670 before it blows up” you guys are awesome
I just rebuilt a set of four of those rfy shocks about a week ago. It is HIGHLY recommended that they be rebuilt and properly filled with oil. If you remove the spring and cycle the piston, you'll quickly find that they are only half full of oil.

I'm glad I got to meet you guys and even got to sit on the 2 engine minibike! It was awesome. Now I can brag about y'all!
Gas_And_Go sweet
I love the transitions you do in these videos haha, there clean and cool
ct70's are my childhood! and my favorite bikes of all time!
It tops out at 52 MPH- I think an exhaust alone should get it to 60. It just seems to run out of breath at high RPM. Anybody out there have experience with these engines?
CarsandCameras try changing the jets that might work
Is there any way to rotate the carb so it can point forward? Or have a small piece of 180 degree tubing to point the intake towards the front.
A little bit of ram air and better exhaust should help that motor breathe efficiently at higher rippums.
Lj Saldana no need for a front facing intake on those engines
CarsandCameras need to rejet and get a better cdi
Just change the jets and get a racing cdi
Very interesting love the early 70’s nostalgia with this bike 🏍 leaves Grom lurking in as in a classic little bike !
Taking time out to help your old teacher shows great things character, guys!!
John's so close with his old teachers. A lot of respect kudos to you sir Hope she's ok heart attack's are scary.
Everyone always hates on small stuff like this, but they can go anyplace. Fit in the trunk of a car and are a blasty, blast to ride. It has been a couple months...
I still need one of these in my life.
you have massive gearing on that little engine. a 17 tooth on the front with a small rear cog is crazy.
ah the video is over already dang. I like these upgrades and playing around on the bikes with different combos to see what works better. Thanks for the video.
shartne thanks for watching
Totally wicked as always guys been loving the builds and content since i started following the channel from the first iteration of the turbo drift trike
Per usual, awesome and varied content with great editing!!!
Thanks guys another fun video and cant wait to see what that thing does when you open it up..
You guys listened... Thank-you!😊
Lots of experience with these engines ! Take a 26mm mikuni with big bore exhaust and freeflow muffler, it'll make noise but will improve your performance alot.. After this you could maybe look for a z40 camshaft kit..
Any Chance we could see a 10hp Diesel off road buggy down the road? Love the videos!
Sure! Just send us a 10hp Diesel engine and we'll make it happen😜
If they weren't $1000 I would :D
lmao of course you would :P
I've got one of those water cooled Yanmar diesel engines lying around (specifically a TF-90). It is complete however I did take some bits off to check things out so those bolts will need to be re-torqued...
_Make me an offer_ *:)*
Carroll Stream has one with electric start for $850. The 6hp is about $700 or so.
Those Fox shocks are really cool. Love those old CT70s. I wish Honda would do a re-release of those. I’d much rather have one of those than a hyofung or whatever type of mini bike. Thanks for the video guys. I enjoy watching them.
Wow you guys have been .aking some great content keep it up!
Thanks man
RFY SHOCKS REPRESENT! I have a pair of those on my '78 CX500. Can't beat the price.
Hey John! Pirhanna makes a 140 HO with aux output. You can find it at tbolt usa if youre interested! Love your videos guys!
what a nice thing to start my morning too
happy faces
Omg. I love that house and yard !! So cool to be able to ride around on your own beautiful property. Is that some kinda bike path or a private road? RUclips must be paying some serious dividends. 👍
Its Johns parents house lol he still lives at home
there is a green wire that comes out of the motor wiring harness the makes 12v power
quad smashers how do you wire that to a light?
you put the positive wire to the green wire and ground the back wire
quad smashers I tryed that but it just kills the bike like a kill switch
Should be a yellow and a white wire coming out of it
Some motors have 2 yellow instead
That will be ac power too so if you hook up a light to it u will fry it
I had a Red CT70 as a kid, great bike, got pulled over by the police on one of these bikes for Riding on a public road under age. I was 12 years old at the time. One thing these bikes are susceptible to frame rot/rust, that clam shell frame can come apart.
Ike had me cracking up with the "Monicaaaaaa!" 😂😂😂
I'm watching you on TV in beef o Brady's right now! Congrats guys! Ur on live TV!
a larger front sprocket and a smaller back sprocket will make the bike go faster but it will decrease the acceleration. to fit the exhaust restriction on the cheap, you could cut the baffles out where the pipe goes bigger then weld it up after, i did this on my aprillia sx50 and it was choked up of fumes and burnt stuff, its only done 9000 miles so the quad bike exhaust wont be as bad, it looks a good project and would look great with silver suspension like Ike said :)
That is crazy fast. You may want to change or brace those handlebars to make it a bit stronger.
It doesn't make it ILLEGAL... it makes it a MOTORCYCLE. You just have to get it plated. Also, those RFY shocks are awesome. I've used them many times.
it's already plated. he meant that since the lights wouldn't work with that engine that makes it illegal.
CT70's are street legal motorcycles.
Only illegal at night. Motorcycles can use hand signals during the day
I don't see many if any CT70's in Australia, however, many Honda CT110's, as they are used by Australia Post, as their go to standard letter delivery vehicle, at least from the early 1970's and ongoing today. They are almost unbreakable.
With that exhaust fixed and some carb ajustments, its gonna fly!
That editing lol loving it.
DON'T BE SCARED!!! I have a 150 in my Honda Z50,
Your first video, gave me the itch to get one, gotta find a good deal so where here in AZ or CA
Ike gave you a little crop dusting!! That's what friends are for lol!
You guys should put some café racer type handlebars and low side mount mirrors on those. Great video.
It's hot I wear icon Stryker body armor vest and gloves. riders look out for other riders no matter the size the bike. can't wait for the next video. be safe
notification squad where you at!!!!! love it

Nice Fast and Furious reference.

it's like people talking about what the mountain man used and had ! the mountain man had the best most modern equipment that they could afford to get ! they didn't limit themselves !
Cb440 rear shocks work as well. I use them on my ct110 and they are perfect for off road.
Should just give up on a four wheeler frame and cannibalize it for all the good parts for the next crazy build👍😎🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
It definitely looks better
That laugh IKE made when you said you don't want the tire coming off the ground lmao
I see you got a new Avalanche!! Nice!!
TheUnendingVids Good eyes!
TammySue PattyPan: As someone who owns an Avalanche, its easy to spot them!
Monicaaaa!!!
Steven Barnette came here to say this 😂😂
I love your videos. You guys keep up the good work. 👍
Hahahahahahaha when John sat on the bike after he put the new shocks on I laughed out loud at work!
I race motorcycles and the bike I race uses a yx140 engine which is the one you have. You can get both compression pistons and high lift cams for them for next to nothing and they make a huge difference! I am from the uk so may not be available in us. The cams are called the z40 cams
And a Light weight flywheel as the cranks are known to snap at high rom with the stock heavy flywheel
Would be sick to see a grom motor swap on a 70 although it probably wouldn’t be much faster but you wouldn’t have a problem with the charging system and electric start!
I love when he says it may be too much power and I just in the background really loud HAAAAA
In Belgium There is A Version Of The CT70. A SkyTeam Dax It Comes with a 50 CC Motor And It Is Awesome!!! I Even Own One!
Love your guys vids, keep it up!
I like the new shocks!
Ignore the trolls and haters. It's your bike. So do what you want.
you guys are the balls I need you guys to make me forget about lifes stresses and realize it I'll be fine lol
You can trade some torque for speed with different sprockets. I've not ridden it though so it might be in a sweet spot as is.
Love the swap! With a bigger engine, can you enlarge the diameter of your tires for smoother ride off road and higher topend?
I like the driving vlog thing
Try to copy the frame on the atv with something stronger then put the plastic body back on that would be cool.
Build the ct 70 the way u want it it's yours make yourself happy :-)
CT140-R one-of-a-kind
Try and make the blue ct70 a miniature track bike with slicks and a maxed out original engine or try and put the 900 on it??🤔
if you keep all the original parts - there is no issue, all can still be put back
robert miller thats what ive been telling everybody. Lol
Could easily hook a battery up somewhere for the lights, just make sure to charge it while not on the road. Loads of guys do that with modded Colemans
I like the 140 engine in the ct70 . A eBay racing exhaust is decent to
I'll take those old shocks ;) Man I still need to find a mini bike without with the engine so I can put mine on it...
T-bolt USA sells the 150 that has e-start engine and charging coil
Those shocks you used I have a pair on the front of my 650 reverse trike build 200kg rate for each spring so might be a little solid on the ct70 ?
Yeah they're really stiff, especially because I'm a pretty light person. They have a little more give with Ike on it even though he isn't much heavier.
Swapped the new ones I got for a slightly rusty 1981 XT250 flywheel I had in my hoard of bike bits, so the cheap Chinese shocks cost me nothing
Yay back to the ct70s 😁
Super awesome video I love the CT70 they're super awesome love the video 👍👍👍👍💪💪💪👌👌👌
Wish I could has seen you. Un fortunately I was having surgery. I'll be there next year!!
OG T.E.K 145 Get well soon!!
Ive enjoyed watching your ct70 builds. How do you like the beefier rear shocks on there? Are they too stiff for a 135lb rider?
What do you think about the. Tillotson TCT Mechanical Fuel Injection
That's great John = I don't want to much power?🤔 ike answer's HA ( yea right to much power) never!!!!!!!!!!!! Great guys!!
Yeah man a yx 140cc.
a nice engine that goes fast
You should repair the atv and extended the frame and do a little bit more to it to make it more safe
We basically did the 140 quad but did it nicely. Scared me to see how dangerous yours was. 😂
Shame you didn’t record the 70 head swap to the 110 would like to of seen that!
BB welding thats what i said. Lol
Super Ike Osborn, they call him!
Ive got a 140 Piranha on my 72. Gearing is 17/30, that’ll keep the front end down and give you approximately 65mph top end.
Also if you guys do a 1" riser on the Handel bars and put them a.little forward, it wount want to pull a wheelie so fast, make it easier to control
Why haven't you straightened that bent handlebar? How long could it possibly take you? A couple hours if you're uncoordinated?
Will you be willing to do a full rebuild video of the ct70 of johns or ikes at some point so we can get to see how the internals work?
