Poor Kamelion always getting the short end of the stick and getting used by the Master again I wonder if this is an origin story for how this universe’s master gets him in The King’s Demons
Is it me (as Terry Wogan used to say) but it seems impossible that the 50th anniversary of the Master’s debut is here, so comparatively soon after the golden jubilee of the show itself. Only eight years had passed between Hartnell emerging from the gloom of Totters Lane and Pertwee collapsing into the heather and the arms of Unit. It’s not just that there was a vast difference in the show, but society itself had changed almost beyond recognition in the intervening years. The worlds of 1963 and 1971 seem utterly unconnected, by time or space. Perhaps it’s my age, but in comparison 2013 seems just a large amount of yesterday’s ago, it’s zeitgeist no different to now.
Yes, since 2003. His first story as the Master has David Warner as the Doctor, Nick Courtney and the Brigadier and David Tennant as a very unpleasant UNIT officer.
I think 2019, 2020 and 2021 are going to be the year where we celebrate the villains of our stories and maybe even turn them into dark anti-heroes, at best.
As well as making me glad I ordered Masterful, I now have visions of the Unbound Master v the Fifth Doctor, a story I didn't know I needed until now. Clearly between this and Master! it will be a fantastic 2021.
Ironically, for an Impressionist Jon Culshaw has he most distinctive voice I've ever heard. Yet another reason why not only do I disagree with him playing beloved Who characters, but I disagree with Big Finish going through a phase of constantly hiring the same people for every production (Dan Starkey, Jon Culshaw...)
I agree. Jon Curlshaw can do a good Tom Baker but with Pertwee and the rest he is only good at one aspect of the characters. For example, when he tries to imitate Ainley he focuses on that scene in the Five Doctors where The Master greets Chancellor Flavia and Burusa. With Pertwee he is only good when Pertwee says " What you take me for old chap?". With the Brigadier he is only good when the Brigadier is yelling. Like "Sargent Benton!". The results are characters that sometimes sound similar to the original actors because he is only good at certain characterizations. With Kamelion there's no effort. It sounds like Curlshaw with a robotic voice.
Yeah I also enjoyed that TARDIS crew as well as especially since Kamelion gives a companion with uniquely alien properties to the story that never got explored in the show
It’s implied he comes after his universe’s equivalent of Delgado. The story begins with the master regenerating after a crash and it’s revealed that he’s already lived through the Pertwee years (just minus the Pertwee, or any Doctor for that matter)
On TV, the 2023 60th Anniversary will also be exactly 50 years since the LAST appearance and sad loss of Roger Delgado - the Original, you might say. A multi Doctor / multi Master story for the 60th? Tennant, Smith, Capaldi, Whittaker, and the 14th Doctor vs Jacobi, Simm, Gomez, Dhawan, and a cgi Delgado cameo... Because these characters have got history
@@eclecticdog2k901 I get where you're coming from. But I feel that trying to crowbar in proactive cameo's of all the classic Who actors - another "no Sir, all thirteen" style moment - would look like just a rehash of The Day of the Doctor. Maybe a nostalgic montage showing previous encounters might work? Likewise, onscreen Tennant can just about convince us he's the same guy these days - McGann definitely can - but Eccleston? No way. Got to suspend a whole lot of disbelief there, or use some fancy schmancy de-aging tech to pull it off (can't wait for him on audio, though, omg :). I suppose having the older Doctors play different, alternate universe roles might work, as part of some dastardly Master-plan... but that's getting a bit Zagreus (which I really enjoyed btw). I do appreciate you joining in with the spirit of the OP though. Unlike some... I mean, I get that this is a Big Finish safe-place right here. But surely the words "anniversary" and "multi-Master" carry further than audio only! The Light at the End was a valiant effort. The Legacy of Time did it better. Masterful will be my first BF of the New Year, to join the almost 300 (and rising) I already own on download-only... If the TV version can do the 60th even half as well as BF undoubtedly will, I'll be happy :)

@@CardCaptorDeadpool I don't know how obscure he is as far as Big Finish goes. The Unbound Stories were one of the first things I heard about Big Finish doing.

To be fair, most of his appearances thus far as The Master have been under a pseudonym. Peeps probably wondering why Big Finish haven't brought back Sam Kisgart 😁
