I made a list summarizing the steps for myself so I wouldn't forget something and have to come back to the video later, but I thought I'd post it here to answer questions I'm seeing a lot of in the comments: -Rinse quinoa in a fine mesh colander if your quinoa is not pre-rinsed. If it is pre-rinsed, skip this step. -Turn burner on to med-high heat -Add oil of choice into a pot -When oil becomes hot, add quinoa. It's okay if it is still wet from rinsing; it will just take a little longer. -Toast quinoa in the oil until it becomes brown, but not black, and there are slight popping sounds. -When quinoa is toasted, add water or stock of choice. (The ratio is 2:1 water:quinoa, just like rice.) -When water boils (which should be immediately due to the heat in the pot) cover, reduce heat to low, and set a timer for 20 minutes. -When the 20 minutes are up, turn off heat, fluff with a fork and serve.
Good for you! My grandmother told me when I was 18 and living by myself and living on ramen noodles "if you can read you can cook" so I started cooking and all my friends ate at my house because it was good! I taught my girls to cook around 10! They cook great!
I tried this method last night and toasted the quinoa with coconut oil and can I just say…… lady, you have changed my life! This method is idiot proof (trust me, every time I cook the fire brigade is on standby) and it turned out exactly how it looked in your video and tasted delicious. Thanks for posting!
+Stephen Jarjoura Are you MAD?! and what kind of country do you live in, where commercials are FOUR MINUTES LONG?! That's a goddamn infomercial mate, and are subscribed to the wrong TV Provider!
You "expect"? Wow, you're so entitled. You should be thankful it's free and someone has spent time experimenting and recording a video about your interest.
Olive oil or coconut oil are the oils we use the most often. Both are safe for ibs. We eat quinoa and eggs for breakfast all the time. It not only makes a great breakfast but dinner and lunch in a pinch. Glad to hear you found it helpful!
rinse quinoa first, this gets rid of the bitter soapy taste, then leave the quinoa in the strainer let all the water strain. make sure the lid is tight fitting use foil if you have to. This will steam the seed. Cook for 15 minutes, not 20 preserves more of the goodness.
You can "dry" toast quinoa in a pan as well, for those who don't want the oil. Just put the prerinsed quinoa in a skillet on moderate heat and stir until it browns.
If the proper procedure calls for 'toasting' then it should be without oil shouldn't it. What we are seing in the video is actually 'frying' isn't it? Maybe that was just her interpretation of 'toasting'?
We rinsed our quinoa first and then proceeded with your recipe and it was fantastic. First time we've ever eaten quinoa and we loved it. Thanks for the tips!
STEP 1 in cooking Quinoa: RINSE it!! Quinoa has a natural coating (called saponin), which can make it taste bitter or soapy, which is why it needs to be rinsed off. You left this step out!
Manny Escamilla,I agree and I just read to let it soak overnight to help get the saponin off,I'm letting some soak right now so I don't know the outcome yet.
This video is perfect And my favorite recipe is: Quinoa Corn Tomate Onions Black olives Cilantro Olive oil Avocado After cooked quinoa let then stay cool and mix it with tomatoes, onions, cilantro and olives chopped. Add olive oil (as much u like it) and add avocado, corn n salt. Put in the fridge for one hour and voila !!!!
Toast the quinoa until golden, add 2 cups of water per cup of quinoa. Cook for 20 minutes covered. If you are at higher elevation, you'll need to adjust the cooking time accordingly. That's the only reason I can think of if you followed the other directions. Never had a problem in 5 years...
Thanks so much for this! For a guy who is definitely not a cook, I am grateful you took the time to make and upload this because otherwise I would have just stuck to microwave burritos once again. Quinoa's pretty tasty but I wanna talk to whoever is responsible for the spelling of it.
You can eat toasted quinoa as is, without the water. It's quite tasty. The real trick is rinsing the quinoa before you cook it, if you want a shortcut.
Have been making quinoa using your technique and indeed it's perfect Every Time! I add a little bit of onions and chopped garlic when toasting the quinoa. Taste is great. I top it with some cooked turkey meat, 1 can of rotel (hot)(original) and 1 can of black beans. Try it, simple, easy and tastes wonderful.
Made it exactly as per instructions in the video and it came out perfectly. I did cook for exactly 20 mins. Cooked quinoa for first time and came out perfectly
Thank you thank you thank you! My quinoa came out perfectly. Didn't have to wash it and the toasting it made every difference in the world. It came out PERFECT! NO NEED FOR WASHING for anyone else who is wondering. I cooked it for exactly 20 mins after toasting and it was perfect and so fluffy. The first batch from a different tutorial came out mushy (that could've been on my part, I might have over cooked it, but measurements were the same so I'm not too sure).
I made your recipe last night but I used chicken stock and butter. I thought I died and went to heaven. Yummy. I like using veggie broth but someone gave me the chicken stock so I used it. That quinoa is like the caviar of grains. Thank you for the recipe my dear.
YESSS. WASH IT FIRST.I followed this recipe and got the perfect quinoa and an allergic reaction to boot that I am now going through.Doesn't matter if its organic or not. If you're already where I am now (itchy and dried up) Benedryl and lotion helps with the rashes.Quinoa nightmare come to life. It actually says to wash it on the Costco Brand that I got. I thought it would be a good replacement for rice, but look at me now. So yes WASH IT FIRST, PEOPLE. Like this comment so no one else suffers.
My 3 girls (4, 2.5 & 1.5 yrs old) love quinoa for breakfast with cinnamon, milk & berries; similar to oatmeal for starting your day. Great tips!! Thanks.
Dear Franz, I tried your advice and I would say that the taste was delicious. Pinch of pepper and thyme was changed the flavour too. Thank you for the video.
I've never eaten quinoa. Always thought it was for the "Vegan" types. After watching your video, I am going to try this out. There seems to be a lot of recipes where quinoa can be used and they look pretty good. Thank you for posting this. It removed a lot of misconceptions I had about quinoa.
Delicious recipe, I made mine with coconut oil and finished it with a hint of sesame oil and it was Awesome. Low heat 20 minutes Perfect recipe!!!!. Thank you!
Ohhh my. Great tip I've made it this way 2 and have a pot cooking for now the third time. The family loves it, and little people approved! Thanks so much
I used Chicken Broth and what a big difference also adding a dash of salt and garlic salt. I think the frying before might have mad my quinoa much better tasting and cooked better!
Every stove is different. Turn your stove down so that the water is at a simmer. You might need to play with settings until you find what level works for you.
Use a non-stick skillet w/ a lid. Seriously. Doing this for quinoa and rice changed my life. Also you must lower your heat to the minimum. Not 2 or 3 on your burner dial.
Thank you for an informative video, I'll be trying this method later today for my wife and kids and using the quinoa for stir fry recipe. You also have a nice persona and presence on camera which made my viewing all the more enjoyable, thanks. x

Hi bud, sorry if I missed your question. I try to keep up with youtube but I don't always do the best job of keeping up with it all. I'm scrolled to find your question but couldn't find it. I'll try to help if I can.
Thanks for the tip! I cook when I travel and just started cooking quinoa and I like it. I knew I was getting off with measurements. But, your tip should help. I'll try, thanks!
nikos t Not sure. My sister taught me this trick about 10+ years ago. She learned it when she lived in Guatemala. It works like a charm though. I love it!
thank you so much. I am starting a new habit and that's bringing my lunch to work and I love quinoa in my salads but did not know how to make it. Your video helped me out tremendously, so easy and direct.
+Restless Palate I thank you for that also.. I did not prewash it last time and watched another video and seen that they did. I will prewash it next time. thanks again.
I had no idea how to cook quinoa so I came to You Tube. This was the second video I watched and since you mentioned quantities and the other video didn’t I followed this recipe and 30mins later I have the most beautiful quinoa. Thanks so much for this video. It’s perfect and I can now cook quinoa. I can’t wait to start using this more in my diet. Goodbye white rice.
Once I was able to focus, I found this a very informational video! I had to watch it twice LOL You have a very beautiful smile 😉 Keep up the positive vibes and great content!
I had completely forgotten until I saw this video, but that's how I used to cook Rice-A-Roni (until I stopped eating it). Can't wait to try this tonight for dinner!
I made a list summarizing the steps for myself so I wouldn't forget something and have to come back to the video later, but I thought I'd post it here to answer questions I'm seeing a lot of in the comments:

Thanks!
KSNandSLW awesome! thanyou for actually taking some time and writing this up :)
Thanks! This was super helpful
Super helpful. Thanks
I'm 15 and this is the first legitimate meal I've made for myself.
Good for you! My grandmother told me when I was 18 and living by myself and living on ramen noodles "if you can read you can cook" so I started cooking and all my friends ate at my house because it was good! I taught my girls to cook around 10! They cook great!

What did you cook it on after you added water high medium or low for 20 minutes?
Just be sure not to use baby oil.
the video starts at 1:22 if anyone's wondering...
+LikeO LikeH thanks!!
+LikeO LikeH I know, I hate the pre-talk (no offense to her) it's just: I type a question in RUclips, I expect an Answer not someones life story.

thanks for this because I was thinking about the moment that I am out of oil/butter etc

Manny Escamilla Some quinoa come pre-washed.

She said to rinse it at the beginning.

Great recipe!
Did you heat up corn first? Or is it just room temp since you’re putting it in fridge right away
>asks if we can hear the popping noise
> puts background music

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
For real for real 😂
It's funny that the only thing you had to say is this
Hind LAHLALI
kinda funny how you just *had* to reply to a 6 year old comment lmao
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you, that worked very nicely for my first time ever fixing quinoa (organic red heirloom). Signed, recent batchelor
Thank you came out exactly how you said 😃 However if someone doesn’t know how to cook rice on the stove it may be harder for them
1:00 is when I knew this video was from years ago, I was like, “Weird sound effect, is this video old?”
*checks*
“2012”
hello have you ever tried stir fry Quinoa. it's an awesome substitute from rice.......... Charles from the Bahamas
do you have a recipe?
I think what makes your quinoa taste so good is your loving personality and enthusiasm stirring the pot!
I thought you were suppose to rinse the quinoa well?
Thanks so much for this!
For a guy who is definitely not a cook, I am grateful you took the time to make and upload this because otherwise I would have just stuck to microwave burritos once again.
Quinoa's pretty tasty but I wanna talk to whoever is responsible for the spelling of it.

Carmela S. Owens ooh! That sounds so tasty and healthy! Come on girl with the tips!
Sounds good
Best ever! I've seen other videos on this and they were more complicated and time-consuming. This method is perfect for me! Thank you!
I just made this and it was perfect - thanks! I used high heat for toasting.
Hi, did this today and it worked like magic :) and my pregnant wife loved it. Thank you!
Thanks for this I'm substituting my rice this is an excellent replacement !!
Made it exactly as per instructions in the video and it came out perfectly. I did cook for exactly 20 mins. Cooked quinoa for first time and came out perfectly

pchan1728 thank you i was just wondering whether I should wash it or not you’ve been of great help thank you so much!!
It may have been washed before it made it to you, but yes you do need to wash the residue off if not. It will smell bad if that is the case.
So much joy in teaching quinoa cooking! Simple yet amazing slice of life here, thank you!
Just made my first Quinoa using instructions based on your video and it's amazing! Thank you so much for the effort! Marry Xmas and happy holidays!
I made your recipe last night but I used chicken stock and butter. I thought I died and went to heaven. Yummy.
I like using veggie broth but someone gave me the chicken stock so I used it. That quinoa is like the caviar of grains. Thank you for the recipe my dear.

Thank you for this tip. Definitely going to try this! it beats rinsing it then losing half of it down the drain trying to pour out the water.
thanks. I tried it. very good. I put 2 and a half KNORR brand chicken bullion cubes to 4 cups water. It was delicious. i will cook often.
I will try ❤
Quinoa looks good and she’s beautiful
Dear Franz, I tried your advice and I would say that the taste was delicious. Pinch of pepper and thyme was changed the flavour too. Thank you for the video.
Im eating my quinoa now, and it tastes awesome, thank you 🤓
I tried your method and it really does work great.
I know this is an old video, but I just discovered it and FINALLY learned how to cook quinoa correctly!
I've never eaten quinoa. Always thought it was for the "Vegan" types. After watching your video, I am going to try this out. There seems to be a lot of recipes where quinoa can be used and they look pretty good. Thank you for posting this. It removed a lot of misconceptions I had about quinoa.
no popping sound....just music lol
Lol!
You must be deaf because I heard it even with the music. Y’all so mean
THE BIBLICAL VEGAN Hey I’m vegan who loves Jesus TOO! I JUST subscribed to your channel! It looks awesome! ❤️ 👋
Exactly wants to make us hear the popping... Lets add some annoying background music
Who cares lol
tried your method. awesome results and we like the slightly nutty flavor due to toasting the grain first.
Thanks, this is very helpful!
thank you. I just made my first pot of quinoa with mixed veggies and chicken. it's delicious! I am very pleased with this new to me grain.
Great video, thank you! i am thinking to add vegetables. So, do i cook the veggies together with it or cook it separate? Thanks again.
Malak Magdy I cook them separately then add them to it... but I guess either or...yeah that wasn't helpful at all, sorry. 😬
Delicious recipe, I made mine with coconut oil and finished it with a hint of sesame oil and it was Awesome. Low heat 20 minutes Perfect recipe!!!!. Thank you!
That is exactly how I cook rice.
I think the same
Julio Batista Silva Me too!😄
Julio Batista Silva same lol
No way
Same... Mexicans usually cook rice this way
Retain chicken bones in deep freeze and throw one or two whenever you are boiling quinoa seeds or rice.
Perfect recipe and easy to follow.. thank you so much lady.
Hi,
you mentioned to turn the heat down low for 20 min. I'm using an electric cooker like yours. what level do you set it at?
Every stove is different. Turn your stove down so that the water is at a simmer. You might need to play with settings until you find what level works for you.
Thank you ma'am. For making this as painless as possible. To the point. Thank you again.
Mine stuck to the bottom of the pan, might have to adjust the temperature down or something.
Use a non-stick skillet w/ a lid. Seriously. Doing this for quinoa and rice changed my life. Also you must lower your heat to the minimum. Not 2 or 3 on your burner dial.
Had quinoa for the first time last week while visiting in Miami, so I tried it at home today with your recipe and it was Fantabulicious =)
Such a great addition for a good curry. If it wasn't for the price i'd use this instead of rice every day.
Nuar buy it from Costco stores cheap
Thank you. Very easy to understand. Very easy to follow recipe.
Hi Restless Palate Awesome tip, worked perfectly!
This was so simple...I will try to make some ...just wanting something other than rice....great tips and very well explained....thanks
Wow, I could barely focus on the video because she is a BABE! Working on the quinoa now though
Milf 😍
Right???😍
Thank you. I'm making it to how you suggested. Can't wait to try it.
I burnt mine black at like 10 min :( I guess my burner was too high.
keep stirring
Thank you for an informative video, I'll be trying this method later today for my wife and kids and using the quinoa for stir fry recipe. You also have a nice persona and presence on camera which made my viewing all the more enjoyable, thanks. x
I thought one had to rinse quinoa, as we do with rice. Now i'm confused.
+Dabney Fountain as mentioned in the video. I am using pre-washed quinoa and yes you should rinse it.
Missed that...thanks.
+Dabney Fountain I've never rinsed my rice? Why would you do that?
The rice experts, Asians, rinse their rice thoroughly...why would i not do the same poses a better question. Most purveyors of quinoa suggest rinsing in their package directions.
I guess my question wasn't worded correctly. Is the rinsing as in to clean it off or is their another reason?
thank you! I add some black pepper and turmeric and I love it so much!
Thanks. Considering going vegan, and I hear this is the holy grail.
check out lentils
Its the holy grain
13freitag13 lentils are good too
Well sis it kinda is..Its great substitute for potatoes, rice all carbs. It has a very nuetral flavor therefore there is no limit to what you can do with it. You can add it to almost anything lol
Cooking
Wonderful instructions. Thank you.
you covered the pot, does the quinoa absorb all the water?
Like rice it does absorb all the water.
Great tip . I had no idea how to cook it. This helped and came out great. Thank for sharing.
Please remove 1 and half minutes of first video !
Perfect. Simple and that tip worked a treat. First time cooking it. Thanks.
Is this for, "pre-washed" quinoa ?
Yes. If yours isn't, give it a good rinse first.
i hate how she responds to some ppl but disrespects others by ignoring them, namely me, i went out of my way to compliment you
Hi bud, sorry if I missed your question. I try to keep up with youtube but I don't always do the best job of keeping up with it all. I'm scrolled to find your question but couldn't find it. I'll try to help if I can.
Restless Palate
didnt need any help, just wanted to say how gorgeous you are, you blew me away, your husband is very lucky
bud knowitall that's really nice to hear. Thanks :)
Thanks for the tip! I cook when I travel and just started cooking quinoa and I like it. I knew I was getting off with measurements. But, your tip should help. I'll try, thanks!
I heard congas.. no popping. haha
Thanks
nice trick...do you know if the true americans cooked it the same way?
nikos t Not sure. My sister taught me this trick about 10+ years ago. She learned it when she lived in Guatemala. It works like a charm though. I love it!
i think indian americans incas etc used the same method...
A Troll I think he means native americans :) also, I think quinoa is south american
No niko, we cook it different.
thank you so much. I am starting a new habit and that's bringing my lunch to work and I love quinoa in my salads but did not know how to make it. Your video helped me out tremendously, so easy and direct.
I think I mention it at the beginning but mine is pre washed. You can rinse yours if you aren't buying it that way.
+Restless Palate I thank you for that also.. I did not prewash it last time and watched another video and seen that they did. I will prewash it next time. thanks again.
Fuck. Been pronouncing it kuh-no-ah this whole entire time!!!!!! TOT
I make mine in my rice cooker. No salt, no oil, just plain. I love it!!! Perfect every time!!! I love quinoa!!!
I had no idea how to cook quinoa so I came to You Tube. This was the second video I watched and since you mentioned quantities and the other video didn’t I followed this recipe and 30mins later I have the most beautiful quinoa.
