Our favorite quinoa recipe calls for the quinoa to be toasted over medium heat until light brown and it begins to pop. At the end you add parsley, olive oil, lemon juice, fresh mint and toasted pistachios. Yum!

I freeze quinoa and pop it out when needed for whatever I need. I also make a casserole that my coworkers call quinoalada. Cook quinoa add enchilada sauce, put in sprayed casserole dish, add any of these, corn, black beans, bell pepper, canned tomatoes, chilis, black olives. If I’m doing it for a potluck I’ll add cooked ground beef at the first step, but I usually don’t have it. Then at the last step add cheddar or another cheese you would use for enchiladas. Bake at 350 with foil on, then take foil off last 15 minutes or so.

@@Sternschnuppen85 I freeze it in sandwich bags in single servings and then put the sandwich bags in a larger plastic container in the freezer. That way I don’t lose the bags randomly in my freezer. I’ve always eaten it before it went bad so not sure how long it would last.😁 It’s super versatile, can be added to bowls, put in soups, added to salads, used instead of rice etc.

Do you have an instant cooker? If so I do equal parts quinoa and water (Or broth), pressure cook for 1 minute then natural release 5-8 minutes. I do 5 if it’s going to be used in casserole etc.

I like to make too much quinoa so I can put a lot of it in the freezer for a later date. About 3 years ago my family bought me a Ninja Foodi for my birthday. I have cooked my quinoa in it since then. I like to put quinoa on my salads and I have added it to my protein smoothies. I also add it to my homemade vegetable soups. Hi Dr. Anna and community,
Now that things have settled down a bit I did some digging and wanted to share what I found that answered my dilemma.
    "Freezing Cooked Quinoa
Yes, you can freeze cooked quinoa. According to various sources, cooked quinoa can be safely frozen for up to 6 months. To freeze, let the cooked quinoa cool down completely, then transfer it to a resealable plastic bag or airtight container, removing as much air as possible before sealing. You can also use silicone Stasher bags for freezing, which seal well and are reusable.
When freezing cooked quinoa, it’s essential to note that:
Plain, cooked quinoa freezes well, but quinoa mixed with liquid (such as soup or sauce) may become mushy and change consistency.
Frozen cooked quinoa can be added to soups and some hot recipes without thawing first.
For best results, thaw frozen quinoa in the refrigerator overnight or on the counter for a couple of hours. Alternatively, you can reheat it directly from frozen in the microwave.
Some tips for freezing and using frozen cooked quinoa:
Portion cooked quinoa into individual serving sizes for convenience.
Use frozen cooked quinoa in salads, soups, or as a side dish.
Defrosted quinoa may have a slightly softer texture, but it’s still safe to eat and can be used in various recipes.
Overall, freezing cooked quinoa is a great way to preserve it for future meals and reduce food waste."

I made quinoa a few weeks back and liked it. But last week I made a batch and put it in the refrigerator, then for various reasons I couldn't/didn't touch it for a week. I don't suppose that it is safe to eat at this point. This makes me really sad. There were real reasons, my having surgery for one, birthday celebrations and so on. But still. These are the things that I have to figure out how to overcome. It's the hard side of fresh foods and cooked foods that has to be eaten in a short period of time. Being just me, things tend to last longer.
I know that quinoa can be used in many things, but I have to be able to think of them and actually DO it! It's on me I know, but I'm sharing because there is no one else to share this kind of stuff with that might have something constructive to say about it.

Did you not know that Quinoa is the only food in the world that has all 9 amino acids? Doctor? Also what type of fiber is this? Insoluble or soluble?

    • @annapleetmd
      @annapleetmd  Месяц назад

Hm, I’m not sure what you mean by this question, given that many other foods contain all 9 essential amino acids and thus are considered complete proteins - soy, dairy, eggs, meat, poultry, buckwheat, as well as quinoa. Could you clarify? And for your fiber question, there is both soluble and insoluble fiber in quinoa

😳It's not dark quinoa, it's Black quinoa. It's ok to say it Dr. There are many varieties as you know, so to describe the quinoa as simply dark would be inaccurate. By the way, I'm sure you know that Black quinoa is the healthiest among all varieties. It's interesting that you describe the others specifically in color except the best one. i.e. Do you have on a dark outfit or a black outfit?
