Thanks a lot for that. Tarkovsky's films hit me in the right spot back when I was a very stubborn atheist.

Thank you, Jay, for posting this dialog between Fr. Vladimir and Andrei Tarkovsky, Jr. on the life of Andrei's father.
In this retrospective interview, we are given the gift of seeing and hearing about contemplative spirituality through the cinematic creations of a great film-maker whose dedication to his work was truly nothing less than devotional.
How did this arrangement develop between you as host and these two remarkable men? Outstanding!

The deeper into our Faith I go, the further western cinema leaves me, and I think it’s because of the disparate spiritual and moral chasm that exists between secular filmmaking and the kind of expression exhibited by Tarkovsky, which really is a kind of prayer. Thanks for the wonderful interview!

Not comparing him directly to Tarkvosky, but when Andre Jr speaks of an artist being a product of their nation, in modern times, I think of Taylor Sheridan's work representing certain underlying/overlooked aspects of American culture, and maybe on the more degenerate end someone like Harmony Korine. Someone more into the art side of film can probably expound more on that specific kind of thing but that was my first thought.

Gosh harmony korine being a product of American culture is so disturbing but so true.

Is it possible to dismiss the pop? He talks too much about nothing instead of providing important background for better understanding of the movies. Criterion Collection provided solaris movie with the comments from tarkosky experts. That helps way more than pop-talk
