- The Smiler at Alton Towers is ranked incredibly high and is said by many to be one of the UK's best rollercoasters, but is it the UK's number 1? In this video i discuss the full experience of Alton Towers' 14 looping Gerstlauer Infinity Coaster and showcase my opinion on the ride. Reminder that this is in my opinion, please don't take any of what i say to heart!

It was the rollercoaster that got me into becoming a theme park Enthusiast back in the early months of 2013, for 8 years now i haven't stopped...

i love the smiler. i actually really like the last two inversions the most. as it comes out the 3rd from last inversion it just goes stupid and i love it.

The Smiler is and always will be a special ride to me and it was number 1 for me since I first rode it until scarefest last year. I had a couple of rides on nemesis and that ride was running better than ever and it did just about top the smiler for me but it is still very close between them. I’d say that the smiler is without a doubt the second best coaster in the uk for me at the moment and is definitely far above any of thorpe’s coasters. I haven’t ridden Icon yet but that should hopefully change later this year and therefore my rankings will also probably change considering how good people say that is but as of right now it sits firmly at number 2.

7:33 thats how I felt in second gen 10 inversion coaster I have ridden. It does that but 4 times instead of 2 (Colossus with lap bars and whippier transistions, that can give you an idea about flamingoland's new 10 inversion that's the same model)

The smiler is my favourite ride in the UK atm but I have not actually been on icon yet I hopefully plan to ride icon this year. (you know what permitted) although my beloved smiler will take some beating I will go with an open mind!
For me a night ride on Wickerman is at No. 1, however haven't been to Blackpool yet, hoping to go later in the year.

Last time I queued for smiler I waited 40 mins in the queue I was like 10 mins close to the ride and there was a storm so they closed so I’ve never got to ride smiler ;-;
Well it’s still there so you can ride it when they open.
I preferred Rita and wicker man. I nearly passed out on the Smiler 😂. My son (12) went on it twice (on his own the second time). He loves it!

Hello There, a great video with a really decent review, thank you for giving us your perspective on this, it's much appreciated, personally I do prefer the look of Icon as it has some really nice launches, compared to "The Smiler", but then Nemesis has some pretty impressive theming and is pretty unique. Cheers Peter :) p.s. "The Swarm" has some really nice theming overall and some decent landscaping.
In all seriousness, and my opinion, no, no it isn’t, but I can see why it is for some people. I mean it’s pretty obvious but IMO it’s ICON. Anyway. You seen the fairground rides at Alton towers? That’s fun. That’s also all I’ve got to say! Looking forward to the livestream 👍

I don't rlly mind the roughness but as we use the single rider queue we end up riding it about 5 or 6 times, that's when the roughness begins to matter coz the headache is unreal 😂😂

In my opinion, the Smiler is the 3rd best rollercoaster in the UK behind Nemesis and the Swarm. It’s queue line is absolutely demented and the theme was made by a psycopath. The strobe room before the baggage hold is very well themed and disorientating. As you make your way up into the station, you see it painted very well, tying into the theme of the ride very well. As you sit down on the ride and pull down your restraint, the staff will sometimes be kind enough not to staple you. The dispatch sequence is fantastic and you get pulled down out of the station on the back row, which can be very fun. The first heartline roll before the lift gives great hangtime and always leaves me wondering which way is up. Then, crazy correction music blasts your ears. Ouch. The chain then pulls you up the lift hill and you have the possibility of going up the same time as the other train goes up the second lift hill. You then go down the great drop, the inversion is very whippy, and then the rest of the first half is just a blur of inversions, however, the airtime hill is unbelievably strong. As you go up the vertical lift hill, it surprises people because they thought the ride was over. Cresting the top of the lift hill, you can get waves from the other train as you decend the drop, which is similar to the first. The second half is also a blur. The second airtime hill is also fantastic. I would just like to say that when you leave the element just before the last two barrel rolls, there is a jarring jolt. This can be uncomfortable. The final two rolls feel crazy and vomit-inducing. As you leave the ride, the exit is very well themed with a great paint job, and dark sections of the tunnel that I am scared of, so I always walk briskly through. As you enter the shop, the merchandise screams at you and the Smiler shopping channel plays, creepily ending your amazing experience.
I have never been on it BC I'm to small but I enjoy having strawberries there its a great place if u like loudness especially next to...I won't talk about that crazy thing!!
The smiler is second on my list just behind Icon but if it didnt have the cobra roll it would be the best ride in the uk for me.

Somehow within the last year or two it has gotten so much more smoother, whatever maintenance their putting into this needs to be put into other rides

I spent 3 hours in the smiler queue in 31 degree heat. I had such severe heat stroke by the time I got on it I had no idea what was happening.
It's took me a long time to get on the smiler......only had one ride on it but it did surprise us in a good way......

My dad said that he waited 4 hours for nemesis but I honestly think that smiler is one if not my favourite ride
I went on this ride the other day after being so scared. I have to say it’s not as scary as it looks. It’s reputation in the media made me more scared but I didn’t feel unsafe on the ride. What I will say is it’s a very bumpy ride and with the force of it, I struggled to keep my eyes open so I couldn’t really enjoy it. I hope this helps people.

For me The Smiler comes 4th for coasters in the UK - it’s a great coaster (especially the airtime!!). Stealth is 1st for me followed by The Swarm 2nd!

It's a touch choice. I'd say Icon, but Helix looks better as a similar Mach Rides coaster. However: nothing compares to The Smiler for what it does.
Not gonna lie I've been on it every year it has been opened been my favourite since and I've never ever had a rough ride on it really only the last 3 a jolty but not really noticable
