    Worked for Charlie Kaman for years. Employees used to get discounts. Own 1980 gave to my nephew. 1992 12 and 6 string high end models. Kaman also started Gibraltar drums made of honeycomb. Charlie passed in 2011, corporate sold music division 2 yrs later. Recently another company bought the whole corporation

    I could be biased. My favorite tonewood is Lyrachord. I still haven't given up on the "Roundback Revolution."

    I'm impressed that you can play an Ovation on your lap so comfortably. I’ve got a shallow bowl Celebrity, and find that the only way to really play it without it slipping around is to wear a strap at all times. (I don’t think this is any kind of major problem or disadvantage, just something to keep in mind.)

      Mine has a textured patch, it clings to most clothes and helps it stay up in my lap.

    I own a Custom Legend (Model No: 1769) since 1994. Just an intermediate player, but I won't trade it for any other guitars, not even a McPherson. It has its own unique Ovation sound, very clean.

    I also use "Disarm" to test new acoustics. You should try playing "Stumbleine" since it was recorded on an Ovation.

    No guitar has the angelic sound you can get from an Ovation/Applause. Although, I will admit, my $100 Glarry GT102 Ovation imitation does come close to my Applause.

    Late to channel…I’m a beginner but love Ovation sound/ resonance… have played a little piano. Great review , great engagement with audience… in 2024 could you recommend an Ovation under but up to 1k AUD? Question 2…comfort/playability.. I’ve health issues so seeking shallow back…
    Advice on both appreciated…

    • @hazlett2416
      @hazlett2416  Месяц назад

      Hi @jamesmadigan4379, welcome to the channel! I wish I were more active.
      As for finding an Ovation under $1k AUD, my recommendation would be look for a used one in your area. I got mine off of Craigslist while I was living in Vancouver BC (back when they were still using Craigslist there). Amazing deal, it was in mint condition and only $400 CAD. You might be able to find a similar deal there.
      There is also Applause, which is Ovation's entry level label. Think Squire or Epiphone - same idea. I used to own an Applause, and I was pretty happy with that one as well.
      Comfort/playability. Some folks do not like the round back, which I think all Ovations have. Mine has a little textured patch on the bottom that grips to my pants to keep it from sliding, but I understand some older versions do not have that - and then it is terrible to play sitting down. I play mine sitting down all the time, and I find it to be a very comfortable and light guitar to play, easy on the fret hand as well. I would not say that it is more shallow than a regular guitar though, probably fairly similar.
      I hope that helps!

    I love the sound of my Ovation Celebrity but I don’t like how it slides about when playing it sitting down. I play a classical and a Stratocaster and they stay in place. I prefer them. Ovation is awkward for me to hold in the correct position. I prefer flat backs. Any tips people

    • @hazlett2416
      @hazlett2416  Год назад

      Hi John-boy, mine has a little textured patch along the bottom that kind of sticks to my clothes, almost like velcro. But, if it is at a bit of an angle, it definitely slides a bit, so I know what you're talking about. Sorry I don't have any tips!

      I always liked the sound, but never owned one up until yesterday. Bought a 4861 Ballader w/hard case at a pawn shop. One string missing, high strings wound backwards, a couple minor scratches, but otherwise pretty nice. Waiting for a new strap/strings/string winder and then will be looking to enjoy. It all looks "straight" (neck, bridge, etc.) I gave my 1975 Sigma to daughter's BF as he wanted to learn to play ... so the Ovation will replace it for me, for now. :-) Loved your review and playing demo. Thank you!

      I’m not a big fan of Ovation’s newer imported models but I also cannot afford their US models. However, the older US made models are often sold on Craigslist and Facebook market for low prices. I currently own 3 US models, my favorite being my 1993 Ovation Elite 1861 in cream White.

    To all the cork sniffer acoustic players who dump on Ovation guitars.Take a nap and realize once you plug an acoustic guitar in an amp or PA, it's a moot point. You can have my Ovation USA Adamas when you pry it from my cold dead hands.

      Ovations are the best guitars to have as acoustic-electrics, because an Ovation’s acoustic tone sounds eerily similar to an amplified piezo pickup sound (plus a natural volume and projection). You’ll get the same consistent tone, and it’s the one that the vast majority of people are going to hear you playing.

    • @erickleefeld4883

      How I describe an Ovation: Imagine the sound of an amplified piezo pickup on an acoustic-electric - but that’s actually the guitar’s acoustic tone, plus a natural volume and projection. A benefit of this is that whether you’re playing it acoustically or plugged in, you’ll get the same consistent tone.
