A very big Thanks & Thumbs up for this drive "down memory lane".
Yesterday on my way to Seaside Park, because of a big traffic accident on the I-95/25 connector, I had to take a detour and drive along Main St. I had not driven along Main St. in several years. It has changed very much. Somewhat across the street from the Majestic and Lowes Poli Theatres were the "Crystal Palace" and the "Ocean Sea Grill". Those were the changes I remember the most from all that took place since my teen years. I remember also that Thursday night was "Drag Night" in which teenage boys would drive up and down Main Street trying to "pick up" girls who were walking along Main Street. Thursday night was also a big night for shopping in downtown Bpt. There were also lots of teenage boys "standing on the corner watching all the girls go by"(Do you remember that song?).
Sadly, Bruce Springsteen's song, "My Hometown", describes Bpt and many other towns. I remember my father driving around Bpt and Ffld with me in his big old black Buick. He started in Ffld(Rt 1) at "Al's" bar, drive to State St stopping in a few places, then to the Seawall on the old Main St. at Seaside Park. From there he would drive to East Main St to the Polish Club. From there he would drive to Pleasure Beach where he would take me to the Merry-go-Round. He would go into another round building next to the Merry-go- Round. I think was a bar. I might have been 4 yrs old then. That was in the late 1940s.
P.S. I remember the circus coming to town and being held at Seaside Park.
