I can't believe this, you've been following my thoughts or something. About a month ago I was thinking of doing this on my 9n3, man hahaha Didn't actually do it this time because finding cheap power seats is hard, I don't even want GTI seats, just power seats but find 'em too expensive. Thanks a lot for encouraging me to do it! eheh
Although you’re hardly adjusting your seats regularly it is something really nice to have 😂 the mk5 gti seats are brilliant in themselves to be fair, unbelievably comfortable, thanks for watching mate!
Great guide! I am going to swap my standard mk5 manual seats to gti leather ones with electric controls for the driver. I thought I needed the electric module so that the plug, plugs in somewhere, if I understand correctly, basically you just ran 2 wires from somewhere to give power to the electric control connector and that was that? No other modules needed and the seats can adjust/operate fine?
Yes so basically i ended up running power and ground to the cigarette lighter, it was the easiest way i could get it to work and made it all easily removable, and thanks very much, glad you found it helpful!
@@tomharvey Thanks mate, can't wait to replace my bog standard seats with the GTI ones, I've had the car for 16 years now and it's my love :D, just got the headliner replaced as it was flapping around, got a new black one covering the pillars and everything + painted all the grey bits like sunvisors, light hub, now a leather interior is all it needs :) + a CDL engine swap when I have some good coin, they're quite pricey those CDLs with all annexes :/
Very good video this, just one thing - Can you wire the seat directly to the 12v cigarette lighter and leave it there?. I have Mk5 GOLF heated leather seats going in to an early MK5 GTTDI to replace the cloth ones. the only electrics on mine is for the lumbar support.
I'm had used seat mk5 that I'm planning to install onto others car of mine. Question is to make the electric seat work without heater and airbags..I only need to power up normal.12v correct?...if yes which wire colour represent 12v input to make all the seat adjustment works included lumber function for both driver and passenger side..appreciated your advice and help
im looking for some leather front seats for my 2007 polo 9n3 do you know what will fit straight in? im completely new to the car scene i have no idea and needed some guidance this probably isnt the best place to ask but worth a try!
hiya mate, first off welcome to the polo scene in terms of leather seats there is a variety of options that are a straight fit, there was certain specs of the 9n3 that came with factory leather seats, and some GTIs too. i used to have a set i picked up for £70 but i think they're pushing 300-350 nowadays, they're definitely around for cheap you just have to keep your eyes peeled. theres also factory leathers that came in the fabia vrs that are a straight fit, as well as audi a1/s1. cheers.
Hi mate, i am in the process of putting golf seats in my polo as you have done. On mine, the passenger seat wire colours are brown, white, blue and the drivers side is brown, white, green. Do you know whoch way thos one wires up? Thank you.
@TomHarvey Am thinking of retrofitting Golf 6 R seats in my 1T3 Touran. Will the airbags throw a fault code? And are two wires all that is needed for all three controls to work?
@@tomharvey Tried wiring as u did, didnt work unfortenantly, but my seats have more cables.. one large purple, one large black and red, one smaller black and red, one large red and yellow and one large brown, do you now how i need to connect theese?
@@tomharvey I just got off the phone with one of my friends. He spoke to someone who installs these seats in smaller cars and said all you need to do to get those back seats in is make a bracket that sits in between the seats so that they can fold and stay in place. Just put a set of front A3 s-line half leather seats in my sons 9n3 and this was a massive help cheers
Nice! Thanks for the comment mate 👍

The rears won't fit, the fronts are the same process i believe.
is this working with golf 5 r32 seats? From normal Golf V seats to full electrical seats from Golf V R32?
not a clue mate, i assume so
Do you know if these seats would fit Skoda Octavia 2 pre facelift ?

What about the rears.
I used polo 9n3 gti ones, straight fit obviously and match perfectly

Thanks for your reply. Just to clarify you only required 2 wires (+ & -) for 3 sets of controls to work?
