I just turned 56 today. A number of years ago I came to the conclusion that, in the grand scheme of things and with all the knowledge that exists in the universe, I don't know anything. I mean, sure, I know some things, but that likely adds up to less than 1% of 1% of all knowledge there is. While I'm not always happy, I am 95% less stressed out about the little things. It works for me. It might work for others, as well. As my wife of 27 years likes to say, "You never know until you know." Thanks for being you, TD :D You're part of what makes me happy

I'm younger than you TechDweeb (32) but totally loved the ending of your video. I've been getting heavily into retro gaming the past few years, recollecting all the old Gameboy games I stupidly sold to GameStop, as well as nabbing some of the video game consoles I wasn't allowed to have as a kid. A friend of mine asked what's the point of buying all this stuff when I have a powerful computer that can just emulate it all, and my husband defended me by saying this was my mid-life crisis. At first I was fake-angry at the idea that at 32 I'm already MID-life, but hearing your explanation of your midlife crisis actually connected the dots really well. I sit at my desk surrounded by old Gameboys, retro NES and SNES games, a few fun handhelds, and some video game memorabilia and I receive a sense of calm and happiness. Like you said, I need to give myself permission to say, "Hey, it's cool to chill right now." Thanks for the video dude!

I’m close to 46 and still haven’t figured out this level that’s called life, it didn’t came with a manual 😅. Like you and most of us I need a place to escape the daily struggles of work and the expectations people are putting on me (sometimes without knowing they do that). I just remodeled my game room to give it a serene vibe but there is one corner where my 80’s side is jumping with joy. I understand why you bought that specific commodore tv, I’m on the hunt for a specific Walkman, mainly for display purpose but it will add to the vibe. I love retro games more and more, there are some newer games I like and looking forward to but throughout the year I keep playing more retro than before (the DGS helps a lot with that as well 😁). The 1702 is testament to the fact that Commodore made some rock-solid CRT monitors, back in the day. I still have my 1701, which is technically identical to your 1702, with the only difference being the cable that it shipped with (there may have been a few tube differences), it's now nearly 42 years old, having been manufactured in early 1983. The fact that it's not only still working, but it's still in as good condition as it was back in 1983. Perfect picture, great colours, and no yellowing of the plastic housing. To think, how many LCD TVs, and Monitors I have owned, which have long gone to LCD heaven.....errr....I mean...LCD recycle tip, and yet this good old CRT keeps on going - like it's owner (now in his 50s).
This was a really nice, warm video, with a great vibe - just like a 1702.

At 1.26, you're able to find all 5 in the one frame.
Now the first one is approximately right in front of the left Alt key, and the second is nearly in front of the right Alt key.
Looking further back you should be able to spot the third one atop the right shift and arrow keys.
Now the last 2 are the furthest from the camera, and thus hardest to spot, but if you look closely you'll see number 4 on top of the F12 and PgUp keys and the fifth and last is sitting right on top of the junction of #5,6,7 and F4 and F5.
If you give it a crack I'm sure everyone will be able to spot them all.

Was not expecting to cry watching a Tech Dweeb video! I’m 34 and I also find life confusing and sometimes downright scary, and playing retro games on my various systems and handhelds really calms me down. Right now I play a lot of retro computer games on my mini pc hooked up to an old 4:3 Samsung LCD screen I got from a thrift store. I mainly play Morrowind and Sims 1 and 2 and they look wonderful on it! I also have a big 27” Phillips CRT in my living room which has a PS3 and a Dreamcast hooked up to it, the tv has RGB and S-Video hookups, so I’m very lucky. In my bedroom I’ve got two CRTS, one with a GameCube and N64 and the other with PS2, OG XBOX, Wii and a VHS player, the TV has a DVD player built in! We have this setup because my partner and I like to parallel play, and both TVs have headphone jacks! Love your setup! I use a Cherry mouse because it’s got that retro beige and look that I like, but it is wired. Still, it might be what you’re looking for, style-wise! And also I see retro bookshelf speakers at thrift stores all the time, but you may need a receiver/console to get those up and running. They look great, though, when I do see them!

i appreciate your candor in this video. as someone who always loved sprite art and enjoyed 2d games, the retro video game thing really hit me hard in 2020 and has continued to only get stronger. as i near 40 myself, i have jokingly referred to this as a midlife crisis to my friends and family, but its really something more. it feels like bringing together very different phases of my life into the present, and like im becoming more of a full person. so now its 4 years into the journey and i have a pvm and my interests are branching out from handheld stuff and its all so much more fascinating, so much richer of a hobby compared to when i was a kid. im just as interested in the tech and the history as I am in playing the games themselves. its awesome.

What a cool little Dweeb Cave! As a guy who just hit 60 one thing in life that I learned, repeatedly, is that you need to not stress the little things. Trust that it'll all work out in the end and it probably will. Life isn't perfect, neither are we, but accepting the fact we have very little control over our universe and accepting that you can't "fix it all" and just chilling out and relaxing daily is the way. Now, where did I put my car keys...?? Meh, they'll show up, they always do 😁 Thanks for the show and tell Mr. Dweeb, it was fun 💯

Early 90's human, and never connected more to something than I did at that round up. Bringing back the magic in life, that was around as a kid is all a genuine soul can hope to achieve. This is my favorite video you’ve done so far, and I’ve loved a lot of them. I really, really like when people focus on things they like - stuff that brings them personal joy - in a world that seems to encourage people to only scream about what’s the best or why something sucks. Thank you so, so much for this TD! I’m on a work trip right now and seriously missing my own “dweeb cave,” so this made my day.

It was heart warming to hear someone opening up about how they feel about life in general. Everyday I wonder what I'm actually doing in life and even though I put 100% into life I still stand back and think how crap I really am at it.
But when we just stop and realise that the simplest things in life is what really matters the rest of this complicated, mad, crazy world can just bugger off!
A simple cup of tea, a hug from a love one, talking to the kids or just playing non over complicated video games.
Simple joys will save us all!
Keep up your good work Dweeb 👍🏻

It'd be nostalgic to recreate my old gaming closet... just a whole wall of games and toys hidden neatly behind two folding doors. But what I have now is a lot more comfortable: A steampunk living room with a 55" 1080p screen in front of a gratuitous amount of copper pipes, connected to a Linux mini PC for videos and stuff, a Switch for modern games, and a raspberry pi for retro games. Towering wooden cabinet speakers to either side. A couch big enough to sleep on, spaced far enough away to avoid going near-sighted. A mechanical keyboard with keycaps from the same product line as the 8bitdo C64 keyboard. Some 8bitdo controllers. A giant travel chest for a coffee table, filled with board and card games. Dimmable lighting from behind the TV, pointed up at the ceiling so shadows have extremely soft edges. Clocks, gears, abstract art, copper, dark stained wood, and Victorian stylings everywhere. It's just a nice chill place for up to 3 people to watch movies, play games, chat, or whatever.

Thy deft hand in curating visuals of such warmth and comfort is most commendable, as is thine dulcet voice, a soothing balm to the ears. The ambiance thou cultivates, a tapestry woven with sight and sound, is a haven of unparalleled coziness.

Hey Tech Dweeb, this video really hit home for me bud. Today (July 15th), is my birthday and I just turned 46. I am married and have a family so yes responsibilities always have us thinking and worrying. The great thing about a hobby is that it keeps you centered and reminds you to be you. I love gaming, always have and always will and recently I’ve been dipping my toes in Emulation and I love it. Nothing beats that feeling of playing games from the past that brings me such joy and I too have a bit of a nerdy corner in my setup. It’s still a work in progress and I’m glad other fellow gamers out there are doing the same. Thanks for sharing your hobby with us, we all appreciate the work you do and we’ll see you in the next one!
