So sorry to hear about Chicken! I know that feeling all too well. We lost our beloved Cosmo a little over 3 months ago and it still hurts. Taking his brother to the vet today to keep him in top shape! You're 100% right when you say "hug your pets"! Love your setup! Thanks for sharing! :)
Oh my god, @RetroGameCorps Russ, thank you so much for the shoutout. You needn't have to, but I really appreciate it. On another note, I wanted to offer my condolences for your loss, we grow so attached to our pets, it's so tough. Sending you positive energy and hug!
Idk if Russ realizes he is a RUclipsr worth 5 million subs at the very least due to his integrity and support to the community as gaming grows larger and larger. You are the go-to GAMING guy! I even got my coworker into your channel and he cannot stop going back and watching your videos, saying multiple times how thorough and beautiful your videos are delivered. Russ congratulations and here for the ride ❤️
Russ, you've quickly become one of my fav RUclipsrs. You, Nerforge, and Adam Savage. I'm surprised how often I find myself watching videos of yours for products I have absolutely no intention of ever buying. I just like the way you explain things and I enjoy your videos. Keep being awesome. Edit: I'm really sorry to hear about chicken. My cat is 12 years old and I'd be devastated if he passed.
Man, this video really demonstrated some RGC lore I had no idea about! This man achieved the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer, was a successful food blogger, and is a NYT bestseller of multiple cookbooks! I'm actually not a great fan of Paleo dieting (I have not found the arguments that the foods our ancestors made was inherently more ethical or healthy to be compelling), but I do have a high interest in culinary anthropology regardless, so I might pick up that Heritage Cookbook ebook!
Russ has mentioned dietary restrictions, gluten intolerance. As someone with gluten intolerance, yes, it's about health, but it isn't just some intellectual theory, it's more about necessity. You don't have to go full paleo to get gluten free, but there's some good cross over there. Those products definitely help give me options. It's understandable, how when someone runs into those kinds of dietary restrictions, they might rethink everything they're eating, to be proactive about not gaining additional restrictions. It's great most people don't have dietary restrictions. The unfortunate consequence is that makes it harder for people with them to get what they need. Thankfully, dieters (who should be focused on a healthy diet, not dieting) have been making those products for a long time. Without dieters, diabetics would pay more for fewer, sugar free options. While dieters do unintentionally create some dangerous issues for celiac and gluten free people, when people with negative perception of dieters, don't realize it's a necessity, not a choice for those patrons. Dieters, also help spread the availability and lower costs.pros and cons
To your point, humanity has evolved, our bacteria have definitely evolved. It depends. It's hard to go wrong with meats, veggies, fruits, nuts, in eating healthier and feeling better. Moderate In some cases this kind of thinking is really causing cruelty to cattle (a truly only grass fed is a starving animal, because they've adapted to the diet change).
@@washuai Yeah I mean, I don't eat meat for ethical reasons. I also can't eat certain foods due to dietary restrictions. However, I look at the evidence and context for each thing I might eat as opposed to painting with a broad brush - something being traditional does not mean it is better for us to eat than something that was created in the last 50 years.
You hit that number because of the depth of your coverage, doing the research and presenting the research findings. It's a well executed technical manual and you do the work. Your content isnt just empty content.
Russ, you have an awesome channel and it was news to me that you're a retired Master Chief. I'm a retired Navy Chief myself and I thank you and your family for your service! Look forward to more videos and very much appreciate your content!
Earned every view. If I’m in the market for new tech, the first and usually only place I look up is this channel. Organized, thoughtful, experienced. Congratulations on all your success.
For me personally as a YT Creator for more than 10 years and leaving this life behind, what strikes me most is to be able to watch your personal evolution, your joy for the process, the tech, film, editing, always getting something better, and how the community keeps growing and appreciating all your effort. It's been a while and I know Chicken is proudly watching you from cat's heaven, so keep doing it, my friend, I'll be coming along for this ride, even if I don't buy anything or don't game as much, your charisma, energy, and passion kept me connected for these years.
From one ex-sailor and cat lover/owner to another...love what your doing Russ! Best channel on YT. Would love to hear about your navy career if possible. Chillin in the goat locker as a master chief is no small feat! Keep kickin ass Russ!
my kitty passed away almost 3 years ago, and it is hard to think about her even nowdays, she was amazing as I know chicken used to be for you, It touched me when you said touch your pets and tell them that you love them, i can't tell how much i wish being able to hug her one more time, it is true, you never know when will be the last time, thanks for your content and sorry for your lost, hope the best for you! PD. sorry for my english
I love behind the scenes stuff like this! One of my small pro-tips for people with standing desks is to get a long power strip/surge protector, similar to what you'd use in a workshop, and mount it to the bottom of your desk (Stanley makes a good one - I'm currently using their SurgeMax Pro 9). It makes it much easier to make sure your cables can raise and lower with the desk if you just need to deal with that one primary power cable.
Been subscribed to you when you had about a thousand subs and 100% believed in you from the start. To me, your format is the gold standard and I see other RUclipsrs copying bits and pieces of it for good reason. Keep up the great work and RIP Chicken
Love it-thanks for the peek behind the curtain, and for the continued, high quality content that you provide. It was a blast from the past to see the old storage room again-ah, those were days! So sorry to hear about Chicken, sending love and hugs to you and the family. Keep up the great work, here’s to the next 500k!
Agree about telling your pets you love them. My dog's almost 12 and is starting to have some medical issues and is on a bunch of meds now. She's stable but I know eventually she won't be around. I tell her at least once a day
I don't normally watch showcase videos like this, but i have to say i was pleasantly entertained? Interested? Whatever the word may be, it was a good watch, and it was cool to see all the little things in your office explained. Also got me by a big surprise with Chicken. I'm sorry for your loss. I must say, what a crazy sad coincidence watching this literally the day of my dogs passing. I for sure gave him a hug and told him I loved him before the time came.
This video shows how much work and equipment it takes to make a production look clean and natural. Congrats on 500k. Well deserved. As games keep disappearing from eshops, I think 1 million is possible for you.
My cat with FIV is about to go. Not excided to make that post-him transition, but it does make me feel better that one of my favorite YTers got through something similar. Thanks for regularly being a positive force, and creating such a wonderful space for fans to do our thing. Thank you, Russ!
Hi Russ, I remember when I got my first anbernic retro console which is the RG351P, I watched all your tutorials and even messaged you in facebook messenger to ask about how to reset retroarch, because I messed up my settings. Glad that you helped me that time, and I’ve been your subscriber since then. I love your new studio setup. Looking forward to more of your review videos for the upcoming game consoles.
Happy Gaming Russ!! I'm really sorry for your loss. I hug my doggo, watching your studio tour. She was so happy!! Gals & Guys, always hug your pets, they really deserve them!! ❤
You look like a wonderful human being Russ. Much congratz on the milestone and you will hit 1 million no problem in the future. Keep up the great work. And don't be afraid to change things up a bit (the way you want to).
Very nice setup Russ! Love all the design changes you've made. Also the new set looks great! For your multi-cam setup, one thing that might be worth a shot trying is changing up the angle of your Elgato key lights. This might not be possible given your space constraints, and the fact that you are also lighting the tabletop below with those lights, but if you can separate your lighting so that your key light and your desk lighting are different, that will give you far more flexibility. Anyways, if you wanted, i would recommend, moving your main key light down a little, and rotate it slightly more in front of your face, so that the lighting isn't as harsh on the one side of your face. This will help brighten up your other eye, and also get rid of the harsh shadow your head casts on your shoulder. One way you could achieve this is by either moving that main key from the side of your desk to the back, so that its more directly facing you. Or a better alternative, would be to add an additional key light to that back of desk position facing you at an angle( if that makes sense haha), and then taking your existing key and angling it more towards your tabletop for the top down angle. That way you reduce the shadows in both shots. Anyways congrats on 500k, you're killing it man!
Thanks for the tips! I've already moved my lights a couple times since recording this footage, it's an eternal cycle for me. I am actually trying to encourage shadows in my shots to make them a bit more cinematic and unique, but I still need to experiment more. It's such a delicate balance between lighting myself and the table with limited space, and then ALSO trying to reduce screen reflections on the handhelds I'm filming. I'll figure out that perfect triangle of lighting someday :)
Best person in the retro community. Well done Russ ❤️ I lost my dog after 16.5 years last September - no matter how long we have with them, it’s never enough. I used to love the Chicken breaks. You’re right on the button saying we should love them whilst they’re still around ❤️
Hey Russ , i have a suggestion for the cable management for your standing desk. Just a small curtain with soft fabric and attach it with a velcro to the back side of the table. It will look much more tidy and it won't catch the cables if you measure the height right. 🤌
A very interesting tour. My condolences on Chicken's passing. Congratulations on 500K. Very well deserved. I was also happily surprised to see you hanging out with the Phawx and Bab in another video. You all share the same work ethic and it shows through in your videos. As an aged gamer I find your content so interesting. At this rate I think you might see a million subs very nearly the same time as Wulfy.
Congratulations on having, half of Hawaii and me subscribing. another gr8 video. This should give viewers an inspiration for streaming or just setting up their own personal Game Space. Thank you Sir.
Love your channel, Russ. Keep being the genuine person you are. Congrats and I wish you even more success. My condolences about Chicken. I remember seeing him in your videos.
Sorry to hear about Chicken. Your new studio set up looks fantastic. I’m so glad I’ve been able to follow you from the start of your RUclips channel. You’ve gone from strength to strength and really created an amazing channel. Cameras and studios aside, it’s your personality that makes this channel. It’s down to earth, friendly and one of the most informative channels I’ve ever watched. I completely trust and respect your opinions on all things retro gaming. Thanks for all your hard work. Can’t wait to see were the channel goes in the future.
I atarted following you about a year ago and learned a lot about emulation devices. Your videos helped me set up my Retroid Pocket 3+ that my wife gifted me by suprise because i couldn't stop talking about it 😅. And it's cool to see your growing career over time. I didn't even know you had published cook books! Keep up the great work, Russ.
Congrats man, 500k people that love the same specific things seems wild to me. I always think retro gaming, or just being a gaming enthusiast is such a niche and small thing. The fact that there are so many of us out there is so sick. Thanks for giving us a place to gather, Russ. Do you feel like a celebrity? Or like a regular dude still? I've always wondered what it feels like to have so many people looking to you. I bet it feels really weird.
You are the man bro. Since I found your channel it’s been crack for me. From your voice to your editing to your viewpoints, I’m all in. Everything you say interests me so consider me a full time subscriber! ❤ keep on being awesome and changing the RUclips gam! And my heart goes out to you About your loss of your kitty. I have 4 cats myself and I cherish every moment with them just as you said in the video. I hope you are doing alright and I’m sure chicken is really proud of all the new friends and supporters you have online. Much love from Wyoming
Bro we watch you because of your voice, that shit is calming AF! At least I know I do. Condolences about Chicken. I feel you pain, my cat Noodles was why me and my wife met and made it 17 years with us. Didn't know you were a Master Chief. Doing well because most Master Chiefs I know have lost their hair and their temperament LOL. Keep on keeping on.
you're amazing, to think I started watching you when you had like 13k followers or something. First video I saw, you had charm. It's been awesome watching your growth, your video has improved big time!
Russ, it blows my mind how good your decorating skills are. Your collection itself is pretty impressive, but the presentation is 10/10, I'm honestly jealous.
Thanks for the studio tour, Russ. Gives a lot of us more perspective on the hardwork you are doing on your content... Never knew that you were in the Navy, an author of cookbooks, and that you liked vinyl. I was so happy when I saw that you also have a white Ninja Gaiden famicom cart as I have the same one. Looking forward for more vids! And no, your wife won't kill you😂 Thanks again! (Missing my cat when you mentioned Chicken❤)
Condolences for your loss of Chicken - we recently lost our kitty to old age after 16 years of her always being there, so I know how hard it can be. Love your setups - it really looks like you've made excellent use of the spaces you have available, and in fact you've given me some inspiration on how to finally organize some of my own spaces. Thank you for your always informative, and fun to watch videos!
Fantastic Studio tour, you've really cultivated a great space to work with. You just forgot to remind us to get a snack and drink for the guided tour ;)
Love the new setup... definitely hope you keep using the "white room" for some plenty of stuff though! The nice crisp natural lighting gives your videos a signature look that's different to the new space.
Congratulations on an amazing milestone! I’m a more recent follower, since about a year or so ago, and I was more learning about what mini pc’s are recommended for retro emulation at that time. Your many more videos on handhelds got me to explore that side of emulation and now I’m sucked in 😅 I wanted to say, I think what sets you apart and why you have had so much success is your authenticity, and your approach and results come off like a respected journalist’s output would. Really amazing work and your success is admirable!
NOOOO CHICKEN!!! 😢 Pets have such a huge impact in our lives even though they’re only here for a fraction of our time. I heard a quote once along the lines of “Now I have to remember you for longer than I knew you.” Just hits so much harder when thinking about your pets.. Rest in Peace Chicken!
Sorry about your loss, I picked up my cat (normally hangs out while I watch videos) and hugged him as I watched this video. Thanks for showing the studio tour, I watched your last one (I've been here for a bit now), and it's always interesting to see what makes this all work. Thanks for years of good content.
Looking back at your videos from even just a year ago, it's immediately clear that your videos have been increasing in quality, no doubt. So it's commendable to see you've still got your head in the game and are making efforts to push things even further. Looking forward to future content!
I am currently in the phase of building my first arcade cabinet. I have a 48” oled tv, fairly high end comp. It will take a while but I plan on having a massive cabinet with light guns and everything else.
Very sorry to hear about chicken. I was wondering already why we didn’t see her for so long… right away went over to my cat to give her some love. She wasn’t to happy about it because I woke her up. :-D
Dude..youre so impressive. Your passion is very clear and your production quality is top notch. Keep up the great work (And sending condolences for Chicken
Rest in piece Chicken. Just wanted to let you know that this video touched me right in the feels, immediately went downstairs and gave my dog the biggest cuddle. She was totally like wtf but it was worth it. Thank you and I appreciate what it's like to lose a family member. Thanks and keep up the great videos. Peace ✌️
Amazing studio! Congratulations for the 500k subscribers! I recently moved from Brazil to the states and I can wait to build a new gaming room for me. For sure I’ll use yours as inspiration 😅
I got an Uplift desk during COVID and i love it. Luckily my employer gave me $300 to buy it and i don't live in Hawaii so shipping was more reasonable, but it was still around $900 or $1000 total for the desk, an under desk tower holder, and an under the desk hanging cable management tray.
Hey russ, I didnt know chicken passed away. I give you my condolences.
So sorry for your loss 😢
RIP Chicken. Condolences, Russ.
We all miss that lovely cat!
So sorry to hear about Chicken, Russ!
🥺
russ lore is crazy, military, cook book career, and now youtube
I'm looking forward to his own line of snacks and drinks. Id pay for Retro Game Corn
fr
Not just that but dude is literally retired as well, that 20 years of service really paid off for him (monetarily and otherwise)
And the record collection was a cool surprise for me. I wonder what's in it
military ?
Just gave my 16 year old kitty the biggest hug for you...she screamed, but I know she still loved it.
Your setup is so nice! I'm always jealous when I see your white room of fun. So neat and tidy and inviting.
Hi @TechDweeb, i read this message with your voice
@@andresavc SO DID I HAHA
me too!! we are all TechDweebeebeebeebee cursed!! 😋
Yep, the same…
I enjoyed watching your setup video as well.
Russ's voice is the most cozy and relaxing among all retro youtubers!
True, LGR tho!

You're 100% right when you say "hug your pets"!
Love your setup! Thanks for sharing! :)
Congrats, Russ!
For the next milestone, I suggest a gardening video. Retro Game Crops?
Maybe a Farmville gaming session? 😂
Farming sims for games in the room only ;)
Oh my god, @RetroGameCorps Russ, thank you so much for the shoutout. You needn't have to, but I really appreciate it. On another note, I wanted to offer my condolences for your loss, we grow so attached to our pets, it's so tough. Sending you positive energy and hug!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gave up on cable management years ago. Messy cable people unite!
You're amazing Russ. Keep it going, I know for sure I'll keep on watching
It’s really awesome to see the growth and evolution of your channel. 😊☀️😊
Oh Russ. You never rant. That's part of your charm.
I would love an arcade cabinet video. I’ve been wanting to build one for years.
I find that the “white room” looks nicest to me- even prefer it to that new studio with your NES on top of the ratan piece.
Fun fact, The Heritage Cookbook is still available in ebook format. 66 million bytes of good eating!
Thanks for showing us how the sausage is made. A lot of planning and work for sure
This is insane and so inspiring. Love all these thoughtful setups that help you stay efficient. Thanks for showing it off!
Congrats on the milestone Russ, well deserved you legend. Thank you for all the videos.
Quality of channel deserves 5 million subs
Congrats on the 500K and your great studio!
omg your basket of controllers makes me feel so seen…love this vid, RIP chicken forever in our hearts ❤
Incredible. We all enjoy the dividends of what you do. Thank you so much!
you're amazing, to think I started watching you when you had like 13k followers or something. First video I saw, you had charm. It's been awesome watching your growth, your video has improved big time!
Congrats for the 500k and thank you for the tour! Your set up looks so neat and nice 😃
Good looking studio. I will be "borrowing" some of your ideas for my set up. Great video. Congratulations on your well-deserved success.
Congrats mate. One of my favourite channel discoveries of late
Such a nice setup for both Room's I am sure It took a long time collect all of the equipment and that Retro gaming goodness.
Your many more videos on handhelds got me to explore that side of emulation and now I’m sucked in 😅
I wanted to say, I think what sets you apart and why you have had so much success is your authenticity, and your approach and results come off like a respected journalist’s output would. Really amazing work and your success is admirable!
NOOOO CHICKEN!!! 😢
Pets have such a huge impact in our lives even though they’re only here for a fraction of our time. I heard a quote once along the lines of
“Now I have to remember you for longer than I knew you.”
Just hits so much harder when thinking about your pets..
What a 🔥🔥🔥 setup congratulations on the 500,000 subscribers!
3:30 that mouse mat is so cool
I have two kittens and I can’t imagine life without them. Thank you for giving chicken such a loving home 😻 Best of wishes, Russ
I am currently in the phase of building my first arcade cabinet. I have a 48” oled tv, fairly high end comp. It will take a while but I plan on having a massive cabinet with light guns and everything else.
My favorite channel, congratulations on 500k subs. Please write a novel and record an audio book!
Very sorry to hear about chicken. I was wondering already why we didn’t see her for so long… right away went over to my cat to give her some love. She wasn’t to happy about it because I woke her up. :-D
Russ, you are awesome. Thank you for all your work. And I'm really sorry to hear about Chicken. We don't get enough time with them.
Dude..youre so impressive. Your passion is very clear and your production quality is top notch. Keep up the great work (And sending condolences for Chicken
Glad you’re here, good sir. The internet is a better place because of your contributions. Lovely studio. Thanks!
Great spaces. Functional, personal and cozy.
Peace ✌️
Really enjoyed seeing your set-up, many thanks Russ!!!!
Hey Russ, thank you for making videos. It helps me with my anxiety. Love from Slovakia❤
