- Per VW Vortex forums, you do NOT have to drop the headliner in order to replace the sunshade. All you need is a replacement sunshade fabric and a boatload of patience. It will be only $50 versus $1500+ at the dealer.
Finally , Install nice simple and to the point. And in English too. Thanks bro great content👍
Mannnnn Nunya Beeswax, sorry if i misspelled your name but, Mannn YOU THE MAN👍 I've been searching around for just a little info on how to easy access this crazy shade and you knocked it out the park! Thank You man so very much!! Everybody else really not trying to help with info on this on RUclips, yet trying to get you to come to their shop and get paid. If that's the case I'd just take it to the dealer but i just didn't see it being that difficult to just replace a little Shade. Thanks Again! Keep up the good work 😉👍👍
Thank you! I didn't add too many more details because once you get into it, you'll see everything that I am referring to. The only reason I am now responding to your comment is because I am getting water into the floorboards again and decided to see my video all these years later. I'll be putting up a video on how to check the drainage in the corners leading out to the bottom of the vehicle.
@@ghaffar23 Yeah i had taken weed eater cord and slid it thru the drain holes at the top right and left sides and cleared out the front drains then had to remove the back side panels in trunk area and reach in and feel for the drain hoses.. they were clogged and so I cleaned em out and reconnected.
The actual shade is easy to replace, getting all the pillars off etc is the pain. Just finished replacing mine. Make sure you get the correct clips from VW. They were updated. The part number that ends with B are the updated clip. The part number that ends with A is the older style clip
This is exactly my problem. I got a Clip A, and it doesnt have the hole to stick the metal part into it. only B has. Can A work without the hole? it doesnt seem to
Thanks so much for posting this 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you for shearing.
Much appreciated. To clean up that Rubber:
I used 90% running alcohol and an old dish towel and it made it look like new
Fantastic,thank you. 👍🏻🇦🇺 brisbane
I see two types of parts for this, and the differences seems to be between getting a whole assembly for about $150, or just the fabric for $35 or so. Or to buy the assembly from VW for $450ish. How do I know which is right to do? (PS on my old one, apparently the metal band separated from the fabric, sort of like a sping that went crazy.)
not to discredit this video but he makes this job seem easy and it isn't at all but the Volkswagen and Audi do share the same assembly so that makes it some what better and I've done 5 or 6 of these as well as the rest of the guys in the shop and we all have trouble doing this and he gives a lot of details but he leaves out a lot as well the biggest is that u have one chance to get the sunshade right ones it is unrolled u can no longer use it and without taking the headliner down u will have a very very stressful time also the panoramic sunroof assembly has tracks that can crack and break and this often happens which is the reason a lot of people don't reinstall them and i could go on and on with different reasons this job is for sure a 10 out of 10
He doesn't mention how much patience is needed when fitting the end guides with the blind and the metal strip attached into the tracks by far thats the most difficult part and if you get it wrong you could destroy the new blind .
This is very helpful, good job. Now, I'm looking for a tutorial that shows how to install the new sunshade. Can you help with this?
I've got mine disassembled right now.. and yes. This is the hard part. Getting that sunshade back in and seating properly without taking the entire 🤬 headliner off is proving to be quite the task. 😫
I did this tonight. Was a huge pain in the ass to get it back together without taking the liner down. When I got it back together the shade did not wind backin. It got all messed up now it’s broken. Am I missing something.
I was asked by a customer to replace his headliner and sunshade. After a few youtube videos. I'm going to tell him to trade it in. VWs are absolutely not worth the headache.
I've just about come to the same conclusion after 2hrs of trying to get the sunshade housing back in 😓
This is an inherent design flaw and it is a shame, really. I just don't want to see this in a Porsche because I've seen it in the Audi Q5's.
@@ghaffar23 the biggest problem for me with vw is they use the same foam in the seat upholstery as well as the headliner. All yellow and gummy after it deteriorates. I refuse to do any pano roof. You think vw is bad, research Lincoln mxz. $4300 assembly if it breaks.
2011 Tiguan uses torx bit size T25, don't know about other years (have no intentions of finding out either!!)
Hello, that's an awesome video as my VW Golf 2008 came without the sun shade and now I'm wondering whether to install one or not. Have you completed the replacement? Was it easy to put everything back in its' place? First I'll deal with the leakage at the D pillars and further I'm going to install the sunshade. Again, kudos for the video. Came in handy
No it's not easy at all you can ruin a lot of things If you try to replace the curtain including the new curtain which is very hard to put it on the latches and still needs adjusting
Thanks
Send me the number of the part or the page when you buy it
My 2016 curtain is making a cracking noise when moving in or back wanted to know if you knew why
need to replace it, only $50 on eBay. I'll have to do mine again...also, make sure to check not only the drain plugs up top, but also, the ones leading out to the bottom of the vehicle.
How do you drop the headliner???
My switch lights up but the roof is not moving. What can be the problem? Thank you
Hi, is it working now or not? You may have to do the settings with VCDS
Are you providing this service?
Hello, VW Tiguan 2012 panoramic curtain has fallen on the right side, can it be restored?
Option 1. You could try to glue it back but you would hqve to take all of these steps in order to do it.
Option 2. Make an insurance claim and blame it on global warming and harsh hurricane like conditions 😅.
Have to replace it, unfortunately. With that being said, this car has been pretty reliable. Had it over the Continental Divide in Colorado, blasting through Monarch pass @ over 10k ft elevation. Blew out my PCV valve and didn't get to replace that until I got home after 2k miles. Testament to how robust this engine is. Oil consumption is pretty high, i.e. 1L per 1k miles, so always have a couple liters on deck.
The tricky part is getting the spring that's glued to the fabric int the slots. 😡😡😡
Thankyou bro
did you have to take the glass completely out?
Fuller DJ yes the whole back glass needs to come out. Not that hard. 6 torx screws. 2 each side, 2 in the front DONT LOSE THE WASHERS ON THE FRONT BOLTS THEY ARE IMPORTANT FOR LEVELING
Richard Bogosian have you got a close up of where the metal clip on the fabric goes into?
I have done probably around close to a hundred of these now here in Australia , this guy is waffling on and on about removing glass etc and working from above what a load of crap . We just remove the rear grab handles above the rear doors remove the plastic trim at the top of the tailgate opening and then "pop "the roof trim "down from its locking ring , as for the roof trim behind the rear quarter trims just put your hand over the top and push it down until it comes out at the top of those trims . You will be able to sit in the back hatch area and replace the blind . My time to replace these blinds now is 1 hour and 15 minutes a piece of cake to do . Now only attempt this job if you have nerves of steel as it is very easy to damage the metal strip the fabric is attached to down the sides OH and most important what ever you do DO NOT UNWIND the blind under any circumstance as you will be in tears , you only need to fit the new guides to the cross bar so you need to be careful with that part . We barely unwind the first 50 mm while fitting the new guides so risk of accidental unwinding is eliminated altogether .
Hi Howard, I'm replacing my whole blind (fabric ripped right off the mental strip). Got old one out, but I'm struggling with plastic and metal strip and how to reinsert it. I understand the plastic clip sits on top, but the metal strip is what appears to be stapled to the plastic clip. Is this just for transport? Do I separate this from the plastic clip and insert the metal strip separately? what holds the metal strip in place in the channel? Cheers Andrew in Sydney, Aust.
Hi Howard, are you in Melbourne? if you are , would you help me to do this?
where are you located? just wondering if you are keen to do one more :D

@@hondared250how much do you charge to do one of these? I’m not far from you.
Also the Chinese curtains are very poorly made. The glue started coming apart during my install so I just bit the bullet and paid $585 for the whole assembly from VW. Didn’t want to be back in the same boat after a month.
I'll have to switch out mine again...no matter, it's only $50 and I'll check drain plugs again.
I bought one for $25 from eBay. I was worrying about the glue since I have tried for several times to install the spring on the rail. It is a big pain. The glue to metal spring looks strong. Very happy with the final result.
You show nothing, no steps nothing just you took everything apart and that's all, where's the fix?
much of my research in forums and youtube showed many of the steps. it's much easier once you're into fixing it already. My findings are after a number of painful hours, so that you wouldn't have to struggle :-)
All bull shitt
the worst!
