We adopted our staffie when she was 18months, retired now, we do not have to leave her much. When she showed anxiety I placed her in my comfy chair and told her to guard it. She caught on at once, and ever since she has jumped into the chair when she sees us preparing to leave, and when we get back she jumps down to allow me to sit down and then jumps up onto my lap. They can be massively intelligent when they wish to be.
I SO appreciate your take and on-line training about a Staffy. My husband and I adopted a one-year-old rescue Staffy 7 month ago and I am learning how to be a better leader and to help her with those learned shelter issues every day. My girl is loving, sweet, SMART and active. She has some issues but we are working on them. She came with no real idea of how to live in a home and we have taught her many basic commands (sit, stay, come, no, yes, leave it. lay down and so on) during the first 3-4 months with us. She learned those quickly. Now we are working on self-control around food and balls etc. We have a trainer lined up to help us do better with healing on lead (she is VERY strong!) She is a cuddler, loves her brain/mind games and playing with us in our condo. Happy keep on learning more...keep the lessons coming.
Proud owner of a Staffordshire mix, she has blossomed as an older dog, just very sweet and super affectionate. They tend to be high maintenance in many ways as puppies but they are such loyal and loving dogs. I have not been able to socialise her since COVID but she is still the same. Besotted with her since I bought her home. My husband who is less enamoured with dogs than I am, often states that I am her slave. Possibly? She is awesome and cuddly.
Man, you guys are amazing. Thank you for all the solid advise. Getting my first Staffy (American) and really hoping to give him the best life and minus as much separation anxiety as possible. Thanks guys.
I’ve just adopted a 5 years old boy... we are working on his anxiety issues, it’s been 5 weeks and we are making progress. He’s stopped shaking when I put my shoes on to go out, he knows now that sometimes it means he’s coming too.
I'm glad that I can take them to moms house when I go to work. Mom feeds them better than I eat. & love mom more than me I think cuz she is the cook. We love mom.
Have a 10 week old F/Brindle and she does cry and whine, but I have learned to talk to her, using her name, and sooth her and after 10 mins or so, she quiets down. 😊
I rescued my staffi at the age of 8 ,last year,he came with a list of bad behaviours, the biggest was separation anxiety. So bad I couldn't have a shower!!! I literally had to start with leaving for one second and build it up. He is stubborn so this adds to trying to rehab him. You need a lot of patience,I think it is contagious too because now I have it too!! 😂😂 Crate training him .....forget about it ! Goes biserk! Kongs and food .......not interested. Trust me to rescue the hardest stubborn boy with issues as long as your arm, food allergies, skin allergies, got a virus that nearly killed him!! He was never socialised ,so he goes to doggy daycare once week to learn how to play and socialise. But I love him,he is my boy,but I have aged !!😂😂😂
My cheeky 4 year old female staffy jumps the fence to visit the neighbours (both sides) and makes herself at home by lying on their beds or on comfy chair in the sun enjoying their company!! Luckily they love her and happy to have her visit whilst I'm out for the day... 🙄😆🐶
This really is the only channel i found that actually helps me with my staffy puppy i already got a trainer for the bootcamp process but the restructuring of the relationship really worked great on my own
It sounds like My staffy (6 months old - only had him 4 weeks) just barks to get that initial attention. I usually hear him barking and whimpering when I leave but I’ve noticed if I’m gone more than 15 minutes. He’s silent and calm when I come back.
We’ve had our Staffie boy for a year now & he’s nearly 3… He was trained before coming to us & is amazing but on walks he still pulls a lot, despite us training etc & he is so attached to my husband he ‘tells him off if he doesn’t play’ it’s funny but he does it to all of us if he is bored, or he licks his paws so we pay him attention..
My English Staffy which is A girl I’ve had for almost 2 years, let’s me know when it’s time to play… which is every minute I’m home! TV you mine as well sell it! It’s playing catch with her hyperballz or she takes me for a walk! I love her though. She’s my girl😂
also Will i wanted to say that you're doing an amazing job and i have learned so much since i started watching this channel, Fenrir Training and the Fenrir Canine Show channel. Keep up the amazing work
Thank you for all of the videos and content that you post up.👌🏻 It’s very informative, I’m taking notes and hope that I can be a calm and consistent leader for my boy. Will be picking him up at the end of this month.
I had a staffy years ago with really bad separation anxiety and depression, we had the get rid of her, long story short as we were not home all the house and she destroyed our back door, and slept most of the time when inside with us.
We adopted our Stafford at 9 years old. She is the best, very well behaved, very sweet and does not have seperation anxiety when it comes to us. With all my dogs I always tell them what I am going to do and then leave. No whole routine or anything. Never had a problem. But she seems to have it with visitors. As soon as they stand up to leave she gets really anxious, starts barking and when they open the door she starts crying massively. We don’t understand this behavior as she doesn’t show it with us. Once she even tried to bite a visitor in the butt. Anyone advise??
I would strongly suggest the boot camp training, especially being it’s your first Am Staff. I have no regrets. My blue nose male is a handful. I feel that an animal without good manners is a pain in the butt and worthless. I love my dog so much, he means everything to me.
I've always had two staffys as they do hate being left alone and I think they thrive in pairs. I always get a male and female and get them both done as that way there are less problems .people think staffys are this big tough dog but they can be little softys ♥️ if left alone they just like be human company if somebody was at work for long hours I don't thinka staffy would be a good dog to get they need to be around humans 👌
Hey Will, could you do a video on your opinion or suggestions on having a staffy in small townhouse / apartment living? If it’s suitable or not, and if so how to well manage their breed in such environments, etc!
I do not have a dog yet. Still looking online. Hoping in two weeks to start visiting the shelters near me. Interacting with different dogs and seeing which dog is really interested in me. That has bden sucessful way for me in the past. I have enjoyed meeting others pit bulls and also interested in staffy's there are quite a few of both that need good homes. I am 69 and can only afford one to live with me in my home. What size crate should I buy for a staffy and or a pitty? I am watching the program and will continue to so that I know how to be with them I want the general public to see that there are no bad dogs. Just bad owners. ❤ the bully breeds. Aylea
do you recommend staffy for a first time owner? im willing to take time and train and socialize them since they're little, i have researched so much on training and have joined your puppy training course. i just want to know do you recommend them for a first time owner? im 17 btw
Hope this isn't a silly question, but I have 3 adults in my house, if we all do the same training with our dog, will he consider the 3 of us as his leader?
Hey Phil, thanks for watching! We would recommend that one person takes the lead on training so your dog doesn't get confused and then as time goes on the other adults step in more. It's best though to all follow the same training plan so your dog is getting the some responses for the behaviour no matter who they are with. Hope that helps!
Any tips on Thunderstorm anxiety? My rescue staffy is terrified of storms, to the point that she has destroyed doors (she’s crossed with an amstaf so she’s a tank!) looking for me if I’m not home. Unfortunately I live in subtropical Australia where we have almost daily storms in summer, often in the afternoon before I get home from work. When I am at home she will cry until she is next to me and then will sandwich herself to my body trying to get as close as possible. She will go to other family members but not for long before she’s looking for me again.
Mine does the same thing, he's a boy. I think it's a trust thing/connection to you but with that there is the possibility of anxiety driven behaviors. How is she when you leave? Or are trying to leave?
Hi guys do you travel to peoples houses up and down the country,. I am going to get a Staffordshire bull terrier in a few weeks time, I have had the breed before and grew up around the breed,. I hope my experience with the previous dogs will help me with training the new puppy, but if I find I need help, would you be interested in coming to help
If you have Discord pls PM me and i will send u a invite so we can talk =) Will pay ofcourse . Have a bit of a problem with my wifes staffy when she is gone

When they want to be. They'd cure cancer if they felt like it I swear.

I’ve got an old staffie 13 and still going strong a lot of walks and love going great
Same
They get anxiety cause they love us so much
Yeah mines be under me like a cat he’ll brush his body against as he walks between my legs or jump into my lap constantly
Man, you guys are amazing. Thank you for all the solid advise. Getting my first Staffy (American) and really hoping to give him the best life and minus as much separation anxiety as possible. Thanks guys.
Thanks for watching Jake, hope it's goes well getting the new guy settled when he arrives!
we are rescuing a 5 year old staffy, we met him 2 days ago and he was a dream and took to my daughter great.
This is great news! Hope all goes well getting him settled!

He’s stopped shaking when I put my shoes on to go out, he knows now that sometimes it means he’s coming too.
Poor boy must have either been left alone for all day and night at times, or was left with someone who was cruel him when the owner went out
I'm glad that I can take them to moms house when I go to work. Mom feeds them better than I eat. & love mom more than me I think cuz she is the cook. We love mom.

I'm watching to learn all I can about my Staffordshire Bull Terrier before she is born in December. I can't wait to pick her little blue self up. 🙂
Same bro but mine is aboy
Ric Bradley good luck with your new pooch. You couldn't hope for a better breed
@@owim4737 good luck with your new Pooch , you will not regret getting a Staffy
All the best! I’m picking up my gorgeous blue boy at the end of this month! 😃
@@lul4833 thank you,and the very same to you friend..

Picking our wee boy up in 2 weeks 🐾♥️

I agree with all this. But I would never lock a dog in a crate.
The problem is I think I'm the one suffering from separation anxiety. I don't feel ok if I'm away from my dog.
I feel precisely the same way 😕🙃🧡
😂🤗👍

For a well prepared first time owner they are definitely a possibility since they are so eager to please
I have a Staffy as a first time owner and he is just amazing.
Same here first time owner. If you put in the time is a wonderful dog.
Thanks so much for this video!
Oh cool - comments are on!
Video idea: littermate syndrome!
Thanks for your idea!
We pick up our puppy in 2 weeks, how can I prevent her from getting separation anxiety in the first place?
Crate train her from the start. Don’t let her sleep in your no matter how hard it is.
Hope this isn't a silly question, but I have 3 adults in my house, if we all do the same training with our dog, will he consider the 3 of us as his leader?
