So I have a similar issue. Mower starts up, runs, then after hitting grass (not to tall) - stalls out. It’s 6 years old and out of warranty. Light blinks and then turns red. I talked to ego and they told me it’s electrical and it’s a circuit board issue and gave me information for a service center. Sound out the service center costs $100/hour fix. Was told likely 2 hours for diagnosis and repair, then roughly a couple hundred it’s a board issue. Likely total cost would be $400-$500. The model is LM2100SP and a brand new one delivered to my doorstep is $480. As such I bought a new mower, paid $648 (after tax), and got a brand new 7.5 ah battery and charger (meaning I now have 2 of each). I’m not mad, but I wish there was more troubleshooting guides online for DIY’ers as parts are readily available for this mower still (heck you can purchase it new). If not, I wish there was a better solution for getting rid of the mower (so others could part it out as I don’t need it sitting around).
Thanks for sharing. The problem you are facing is a peculiar one, and your testing has narrowed it down to why the overload is happening. I have a suspicion that the bearing(s) on the motor maybe broken. So your tightening the bolt, exerts pressure on the spindle, causing to overload the motor ( the mechanical stalling is like an overload). Warranty on all the mower parts is 5 years. I will strongly urge you to get a repair ticket from EGO, and send it for repair. By the way those motors are expensive from RCPW, or Jack’s Small Engines. i just checked the price on Jack’s, it is $260. Alternatively you can keep trying eBay. Oh 😃 I was cringing every time you started working on the blade without removing the battery. But that is me. 😁
I had the same problem. I solved it by squirting WD-40 under the white fan that the blade is attached to. Then I squirted oil up there also. My mower starts every time now. My theory is, it gets a little rusty from cutting wet grass and the blade doesn’t turn freely.
Same problem here….its detecting load when there isn’t any. If you remove the blade, it spins happily. Adding a washer seems a bit risky…..wish ego has a solution for this 😟
I had this same issue. Electric motors are not easy to kill so it is most likely not the motor. sometimes a battery will show full charge (volts) but wont have amperage (Power). I find that it shows a flashing orange (overload light) because the power it takes to spin the blade is not enough so it feels loaded down, this is sometimes referred to as ghost voltage, but to spin without the blade shows that the motor is working without a load on the battery. there are two solutions to this issue, you can refurbish the battery or get a new one all together. your battery even though it looks and acts charged is most likely bad. if you know someone in the neighborhood with another battery see if you can swap it. I hope this information helps you all.
The reason why motor starts without the blade, or with lose blade, is because it takes a lot less torque and corresponding current from the battery. I think the problem is with your battery. Have you tried another one?
It always to see individuals make attempt to solve issues on their own. I just have one very strong recommendation pertaining to your process. Please take the time to remove the battery EVERYTIME you feel the need to flip it over and expose the blade. It's a machine that's not functioning properly. It could give a little single rotation and it could hit something that you really don't want it to come in contact with. You also performed this very unsafe action with children in the area. I was very nervous for you throughout this segment. Again, please discontinue that particular practice. Always safety first.
Should we wear a reflective vest while we mow as well? That way, everyone knows to stay clear? If people want to risk their own limbs, that's their problem, not yours. It IS NOT everyone elses problem to not trigger you. It is YOUR problem to control your triggers.
Same Problem here. I can get it to start by putting a clamp on the handle, putting the battery in as soon as the light starts flashing i pop the battery, wait a second, then push it back down and it will run. The trick is to keep the motor from starting from completely stopped.
I added another washer so there is a washer above and below the blade then hand tightened it. This works. Makes no sense but it worked. Just have to be sure when mowing that the blade does not start vibrating.
The bolt is not relevant to your issue. Its struggling to startup because it takes extra power to spin the blade. It's either the battery, or most likely the control board inside the motor housing.
The motor sounded like it was not good when you ran it with no blade, so I don't think it is anything to do with the blade. That is just adding load to make the fault worse and tripping the fault code.
I had the exact same problem under warranty. It took EGO almost 3 months to resolve it. The wanted to replace the motor but were unable to get one. They eventually sent me a new mower. The replacement mower has now failed with a defective handle extension switch. I bypassed the switch to make it work since my warranty has expired.
I just had this exact problem. The solution in this video fixed mine. ruclips.net/video/TEZgGmjFNqg/видео.html I would’ve thought they were two totally separate issues

I have 3 batteries.. Not the problem

You sure your names not karen🤣🤣
@@JPGgaming2000 bet he wears the big safety goggles when fixing a loose door knob in his house.

Ok, this trick worked for me. Any idea what the problem is, then? And will I lose performance/torque when cutting thick grass or mulching leaves?
The overload capacitor are going out and it's located under the engine housing
I have the same Problem, ANY SOLUTIONS YET 🤔🤔🤔

Were you able to resolve this? Mine is doing the same thing
Any luck getting resolution? I have the same blinking on a full charge. Battery is blinking too.
The controller board for the motor is bad. Amazon sells them for around $130.
Take the black tops off and wipe down everything . Get the dust off the boards and it will fire back up I just did mine.
Same here.
Worked.
mine does same, any solution yet.
Same problem after running over a dry small stump it quit bent the blade and now it will run without the blade and at a slower r.p.m

i have the exact same issue with mine.
Same problem but it happens after i go thru the first battery. I have another more just like it and for some reason the RPM stays way up high

hey mate, did the switch in the handle need to be clicked in or left out? I've cracked mine open while troubleshooting and unsure where to go. Thanks
Same here. Runs without a blade.
Looks to me like the motor has died. It pukes under load.
Same here, 5 years and 4 months old
Try using a washer on both sides of the blade
Did you hit a stump or a rock, and it stopped working? I did, and the Blade doesn't free spin like it should.
Same problem here
Look like is the motor
Video didn’t make a bit of sense
Pinched red wire
I just had this exact problem. The solution in this video fixed mine. ruclips.net/video/TEZgGmjFNqg/видео.html
I would’ve thought they were two totally separate issues
No. That's a standard solution for a bent wire. It has nothing to do with the problem featured in this video.
