I grew up next to Bosnian neighbors who used to cook this every now and then. I have very fond memories of it growing up because it tasted amazing and the people who made it were extremely kind. I have searched for this recipe for quite a long time. Your video was excellent and I can't wait to try out making Burek for myself. Thank you so much for posting and hvala vam za pomoc!
I have seen hundreds of burek recipes in English and I have not found one as great and descriptive as this one! Thank you so much! Everything is so detailed, the table cloth, the soda water, wow!!!! This is great! Thank you!
Bravooooooo. We make burek and I can tell you one secret, add just a pinch tiny pinch of honey to meat and onion. It will make everything different . You made amazing burek and trust me lot of girls can not make it these days. I hope you love it and you will try other balkan recipes.
It's good to see you making burek. My cousin is married to a Bosnian. She can make burek, zaljanica, the one with potato and cheese - to name a few! When her in-laws come to Australia (where I'm from), they are blown away! Thank you very much for sharing this!
You have given us a great description of how our mother, aunts and grandmother made this dish. I had seen it a few times but didn’t know the subtleties. All in your calm and knowing voice. A great way to learn. Thank you so much
I tried many recepies for burek from my bosian friends and hands down this is the best recepie of them all that yealds the best tasting and looking burek! Thank you so much Nimzy!
wow this actually looks really authentic, just the way I saw it being made is that the dough looked thicker (more rolls or something ) and they'd usually pour some melted butter over it at the end ....
Fantastic job! Just like my mom makes. My gf, future wife, will use this video and try to make it this weekend. My mom sent us this video to use until we can come visit in person
Wow, Respect !!! Original !! Grandmother's Burek, I'm impressed !!! please remember Burek is only said if it is done with meat !! cheese=sirniza , potatoes=krompirusa, spinach=zeljanica ,
Thank you so much! Yes you're absolutely right. I simplified it by letting people know they can add whatever filling they like but technically the name of the pie would change. 🙃👍🏾
How you learned Bosnian burek. Good job👍👏 Also, I am not Bosnia and I know how to make it not just burek. Also, their other stuffed vegetables with rice and minced meet. The other type of pita with spinach
Thanks for this excellent video. So many people tried to show me but whenever I turn my head or go to grab something I feel like I may have missed a couple of steps cuz it never comes out very good.. 😂 you make it look so easy. I always wondered why my mother-n-law kept greasing up my tablecloths. I never thought they looked clean so I kept throwing them out.. I didn’t know about the fabric softener. Another concern with the table cloth is my fear of hair/fuzz that may get stuck to the dough. I can’t wait to try it this way. Today I made burek that looks.like a pie but when it was done, it looked like a very large Jamaican beef patty.
Aww thank you so much! I'm happy you're learning Bosnian food and I hope you are successful using this method. Definitely feel free to post any questions here when you try it. 😊
At the very end, you need to pour melted butter over the burek, and then cover the pan with a cloth for ten minutes! Then it will be perfect and authentic, and the taste will be much better!
Good job I hope I can make this. I al Bosnian and I never made one before. Your video is amazing to help me learn. Grew up eating alot of potatoes Pita it’s my favorite food.

It looks like you have done this soooo many times. Looks delicious. I went to Bosnia last summer and had time for only one Burek place in Sarajevo, which unfortunately wasn't the best, had better here in Belgium from immigrants. Gonna try this recipe soon, but I'll first need a table cloth :)
This recipe is absolutely, 100% traditional. I saw Bosnian women in Croatia make it exactly the same way. What I cant figure out is...how in the heck did someone who (I assume) is American learn to do this?
Nimzy Unmeasured I’m learning with your video instead of with my mom 😂 I tried to make one the other day but had a lot of trouble stretching out the dough... ended up being a bit too thick lol.. will keep trying!
@@Timur21 haha nice! Add water little by little until it's like a pizza dough consistency. Knead the dough very well to build the gluten. Its better to be more wet than dry if you're unsure but it shouldn't be too sticky. Also let the dough rest and use the oil after rolling it out to help stretch the dough.

Yes you can freeze. It's easier if you make mini ones (pita) and freeze them individually. Wrap well and when you're ready to bake place it in the oven frozen, no need to defrost. You can add the soda water halfway through baking.
@shahnilakhalid8235 if you make them into pitas then yes. If it is the burek as shown, it will probably need to bake an extra 10-15 mins. Check and see. I have never frozen mine but they sell them frozen so I know it can be done.

What is the dimensions of your table... curious. 4 x 6?
2ft 7in× 3ft 10in
Whats the oven temperature? And how long do you leave it in in total?
375F for 25-35 mins. You will have to check it based on the thickness of your yufka. When it's evenly brown it should be ready
Good job lady smell on Burek
Nije burek nego mesnica!
Does the oil make it stretch easier or is it to make the layers flakier?
Both. Adding butter or ghee after stretching the dough helps create flaky layers
