Really happy for your succeeding at working at the UN. it’s very kind of you sharing ur experience and making us feel and believe that we can also too apply for this job!!!! Thanks 🙏🏽 🤗🤗
Hi I’m going to start my bachelors in law from this September, and I’m so happy that I came across your video because I too want to work/intern in the UN with Human Rights related affairs. So it was very helpful ❤️☺️
Here are the generic tips to get a job in the UN (Nairobi) as an expat aspirant: (1a) You must be white; or (1b) a person of color, but coming from a well represented member state of the UN. (2) You must be "one of them" in that department, or office you want to be in. (3) You must be super, then all else won't matter. As in superrrr qualified to be considered! Again this is for expat aspirant unless you are competing for jobs that are preferably to be filled by local hires. Walk around UN Nairobi complex and you'll see those who are in positions and even young interns and volunteers are dominantly either 1a or, 1b. And yet to be confirmed, (4) if having powerful connections inside the UN would increase your chances to get the job.
UN jobs shouldn’t be competitive at all. Anybody who wants to join the UN is someone who wants to make a change in this world somehow and we need a lot of that. Our world needs a lot of help and we can’t afford that make the UN competitive to get into 😭
It actually should. The outcome is quite important. A lot of the work done in these organizations is highly skilled and in response to very targeted issues. So anybody can't just join and do it, even if they are willing to help. People should be both highly trained + willing to make an impact.
@@lauraeboasongue yes but there’s different levels within the UN. Not everyone needs to be highly skilled depending on exactly what they wanna do. Also they they don’t pay their interns, which means those who don’t have financial support can’t really pursue it unless they’re willing to do work and not get paid. Idk I just feel like they shouldn’t put so much obstacles in front of people who simply wanna help. Not surprised there’s so much corruption within the UN and unicef.
@@aishayassy412 I get what you are saying but people who want to join and help can do it through a LOT of channels (volunteering, youth programs, ambassadorship, local partnerships, etc). As far as the pay, some agencies (UNOPS, UNDP,...) give a fair stipend, but I agree that it should be all across the board.

I aspire to work in the UN or at least intern in the UN. It is a forgotten dream since I was a teenager. I finally saved up enough money for an international study programme which I could afford. I had a very experienced classmate who worked full time in the UN. Unfortunately, she was very discouraging and turned out to be a bully outright along with some others. Maybe this is the real world and how people like that got what they wanted. She left the UN after a few years. Really, she had everything I could only dream of. I guess I was never good enough for people like her who worked in the UN and studied at an Ivy League. It is another side of the real world I saw.
There a channel of a mexican girl, she was doing her masters in Germany, and since college is free over there she was only paying a small fee every semester, that she covered with a mexican scholarship, so basically mexico gives money to its citizens that are doing a masters or phd abroad, that girl did an internship at the UN in nyc and she wasn't getting paid by the UN but since it was a requirement to complete her masters, she was still receiving the scholarship from mexico, and mentioned that her parents help a little, im pretty sure that if mexico has such a program for its students, other developed countries do it as well, she also mention that you can get a job at the country you are going, but thats another process
You don’t have to come from a rich family. I did an unpaid internship at UN and my master scholarship covered the most of living during the summer months. Many people finance their internships through scholarships for young graduates or simply save up/take a loan. It’s all in your hands.
I'll be graduating soon.. and tbh I have no clue on what I want to do with my life.. there are some things I'm really interested in but finding jobs that relate to that is soo difficult 😫
I felt exactly the same when I was graduating but hang in there! Try out different things and see what you do and don't enjoy. Something will work out for sure :)
I know how that feel. When I graduated everyone was saying "so what now?" What are you going to do now? whats next? It's obvious answer but at the same time not so much. It doesnt help when friends and other people you're around seem to know or have a next step planned already. My advise dont worry, take a deep breath and take time to think okay what do I want.
Lucky you, I have applied for a lot of internships with UN But no answer yet, even i am holder LLM with English and arabic language skills also with few years experience in international organisation.

Hi one question concerning your top 3 areas of interest which need to be included in the UN cover letter: did you write about your general interests (hobbies) or in regards to the position offered? I am a bit confused here as it has not been specified

This way you can familiarize yourself with the format for the written part of the exam.
