For those whom do not see him/herself in any of the 4 common categories to join UN described in this video, I share my story in which I joined the UN by commonly applying in the programme website page for a normal vacancy (Programme Assistant at UNDP-BR) and from there I made my way up into the organization. At the time I was 34 and I had never worked for anything remotely related to the UN before. Once I was inside, I realized that many people (nationals and foreign) have joined the UN in a very similar way as I did based on his/her previous experiences. I know it is weird when you are on the outside but this way of joining the organization is way more common than expected. It might take some time (2 to 3 months) but is possible such as in any other organization or company. I hope I have helped.
Thank you for this..i have been trying from my side..and i have been working with the french ministry for a while now. No success yet. I ll keep going though. Good luck to you.
Honestly, THANK YOU. You probably saved me hours of research just to understand the structure of jobs in the UN for people who want to get started. Thank you!
I’m UN volunteer for 3 years the living allowance is good and is mostly fair money to live with e.g. in NY they pay 4K in Bangkok they pay 2.5K. When you enter you receive entry lump sum of 4000$ and so on exit allowance. They pay for your tickets and everything. Also they cover health insurance. For the internship it’s not always the case to no be paid. Because in Bangkok I notice interns are paid. If you have any questions regarding UN volunteer I will answer
Heyyyy, sorry to bother you on such a stupid question as it isn't directly related to the topic itself but being such an experienced person can you suggest some of the things that I should pay my attention to if I want to work for UN in future or some early initiatives that I should take currently. Also being from a socials background (in my early stage of studying rn) what are some recommended committees and jobs for me in UN
Heyy can u plz provide me with a roadmap how can i volunteer as a foreigner and how can i get job etc any other oppurtunities that u know i would be really grateful if u help me out and i have sociology and social work background
Such a breath of fresh air from all the nonsense in YT these days. Highly underrated channel, a concise presentation for a topic that you could probably go on for hours. I'm currently into consulting but have always wanted to make an impact, so this information definitely helps. I wouldn't have thought that internships had such a wide range of participant's ages (aka when you said "much older"). In your experience, do you HAVE to start at an early age to have a long-term career at the UN? Subscribed!
Wow, you effortlessly summarised the UN in just afew words. This is much easier for an applicant to understand than reading through the detailed and confusing info written on the UN website.I wish I had this info 8 years ago when I was very passionate to work at the UN.

Thank you for such an informative video! It would be great if you can make a video about your personal journey from the start until where you stand today in the UN :)
Really helpful and timely! If you could do a few more on this subject that would be great. For example if you can't currently find any way to directly get your foot into the UN door, are there other ways or things you can do that will help you when the opportunity does come up? e.g. what types of grassroots causes could you be involved in before the UN; conferences/events that will help you find the right people to network with etc. Thanks!

Here are the generic tips to get a job in the UN (Nairobi - the largest UN complex) as an expat aspirant: (1a) You must be white; or (1b) a person of color, but coming from a well represented member state of the UN.
