12:11 "The what?" The Masamune (Mah-suh muoon-ay) is the name of Sephiroth's sword. It is often the name of a badass sword in Final Fantasy games or other Square Soft/Enix games. I believe the name is based on a real life sword smith in Japan that was famous for making high quality katanas

The Masamune is such a staple in Final Fantasy, that it even predates the existence of Cid.
It's not covered in the machinabridged but basically Sephiroth can control the people in black capes and use them as disposable underlings. So when they discovered that the temple shrinks down to become the black materia they reason that Sephiroth would just sacrifice one of his minions to get the black materia
9:13 "Why couldn't they just leave the black materia where it was?" Because all the wrong people knew where it was and now had access to it. It was more of a matter of getting it first. However, Cloud suggesting they get it, only to hand it over to Sephiroth later, makes it seem like it was Sephiroth influencing that decision from the beginning.

Plus there's the fact that shinra could use robots to get the materia and that sephiroth could use the jenova clones to get it as well even kf they left the temple
@@chriskoloski32 They also might not have known whether or not Sephiroth would be able to discover a way to use its magic without first shrinking the materia to a smaller size. So it was best to keep it out of his reach entirely.
Would you believe me if I told you that Aeriths death happens on the FIRST disc of FFVII? It's a three disc game. (and the remake only covers the Midgar portion)

@@theduckgoesmoo Nah, not true, there is the entire final dungeon as well as sidequests.
@@DutchDread Even so, it's basically just the end of the game. Whereas all of the actual story (save for the ending) happens prior. So if you're not doing any end game or post game side quests, you'll probably only be on the third disc for a couple hours.
Point is that while the game is three discs, the third disc doesn't really amount to much in terms of the game's length. But I know you're just correcting him, since he probably either heard wrong, or misinterpreted what he'd been told.

But my mother hid my copy of FF7 somewhere. So, I went looking for it in her room when she was at work. Underneath her mattress I found it. Not the game, but the pair of fuzzy handcuffs my mother and step-father owned. The cuffs were among other... 'things' that I had no clue about at the time.

So, any plans on actually playing FF7 or FF7 remake? I'd be down for that, and if you wanted to, you could watch the final fantasy 7 movie advent children. It has one of my favorite animated fights in it.
I'm going to suggest something different, not an Abridged series but a series of cutscenes from a mobile game called Honkai Impact 3rd, I can provide a list of them if you want
