  • Discover the all-new electric G Class from Mercedes, the G 580 with EQ Technology. This electric G Class version retains the iconic features of the series introduced in 1979, including its ladder-frame concept, LOW RANGE off-road gear reduction system, and rear rigid axle.
    Powered by a 116 kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery integrated into the chassis, the 2025 electric Mercedes G Class offers a range of up to 473 kilometers according to WLTP standards. Protected by a torsion-resistant casing, the battery also features physical impact protection through an intelligent mix of materials, including carbon.
    Propelled by four individually controlled motors, this electric G Class delivers a maximum total output of 432 kW and a maximum torque of 1,164 Nm. With torque vectoring technology, it generates virtual differential locks for enhanced off-road performance.
    The innovative driving concept of this electric G-Class offers unique functions for off-road use, such as G-TURN, G-STEERING, and an intelligent off-road crawl function. The G-ROAR sound experience includes a G-Class-specific driving sound, an "aura," and various event sounds.
    Aerodynamic enhancements, such as a slightly raised bonnet, A-pillar trim, roof spoiler lip, and "air curtains" in the rear wheel arches, contribute to improved aerodynamics and interior acoustics.
    The electric G-Class is also equipped with the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system and a 31.2-centimeter (12.3-inch) driver and media display with touch controls, as well as advanced driver assistance and safety systems.
    The EDITION ONE, an exclusive special model available at launch, offers an expanded palette of standard features for an even more immersive experience.

    So since differentials are replaced by torque vectoring, now each wheel can only receive no more than 25% of total system power, where as in a traditional G, 100% of power can be sent to each wheel. Good thing it can turn around when it comes across terrain that this one can't handle.

    • @vargadumi
      @vargadumi 24 дня назад

      I assume 4 motors, 1 at each wheel can distribute the power as necessary.

      @@vargadumi well yes, but the total system power (so four motors combined) is 432kw. Each individual motor produces only one quarter of that (assuming all motors front to back are same output). So if you send power to one wheel through torque vectoring, that means that one single motor is powering that wheel. There is no way to send power of all four motors to one single wheel without the use of differentials. Therefore, this G wagon can only send no more than 25% of its power to a single wheel. And even if traditional G wagon may be less powerful, through differentials, it can send all 100% of its power to any wheel. Meaning it can actually send more power (in case of G500, possibly even the 350 or whatever it’s called) or more torque (in case of the diesel) to a single wheel than this car if the situation requires it.

      When you are really stuck in ICE car your best option is diff lock. When both diffs locked you get 25% power for each wheel. You can get 100% power on single wheel only when diffs are not locked, with least off-road settings. Who off-roads like that?
      Also electric is instant max torque and faster traction management, which is more important.
      Not that anyone who will buy this or normal G would ever go off-road.

      100% power to one wheel is completely useless, it's not enough traction for one wheel for so much power, and other 3 wheels are wasted traction surface.
