- 01/01/2011. Florida Citrus Bowl (Orlando, FL). The 65th annual Capital One Bowl. The #15 Alabama Crimson Tide (9-3) vs. the #7 Michigan State Spartans (11-1).
Broadcast on ESPN.
This is honestly the most complete game Bama has played under Saban. The team of course underachieved in 2010, but this bowl victory showed what they were capable of when they were focused and gave Bama fans a good feeling about 2011.
The Notre Dame game was another one too, but with much higher stakes.

I think the second Michigan State game was better. And it was also at a higher stake (national semi-final)
something that usually goes somewhat overlooked in this particular Bowl game was Coach Dantonio made some disparaging comments about his former boss, Coach Saban, 2 weeks leading up to it. this was one of the most physical pummelings I’ve ever seen a Saban team lay on a top opponent. McElroy 35 yards downfield running over a safety is the icing (on an end-around to Julio). this game was sealed in Q1. no way this team should’ve lost 3 games. bad OC game-plans iirc. the other games mentioned above were all whoopin’s too
Bama against LSU in the Natty is up there too
I was so nervous about this game but man, that was one of the best games that they played that entire season. The only game that is rivaling this one was the top 10 matchup against florida.
This was one of the most incredible massacres I've ever seen in my 30 years of watching cfb.
Just look at how many MSU players were carried off the field!

This was maybe the most underachieving Bama team in school history. Losing to South Carolina and LSU were inexcusable. Having a 24-0 lead on Auburn. This team just had no breaks go their way. I honestly predicted Mich St to win by 10 points. I thought Bama had no chance. Bama played the most complete game of that season and showed what this team SHOULD have been. This team played with intensity that they had not shown all season. 2010 was Sabans worst coaching job during his tenure at Bama.
I was at this game and the MSU fans left at halftime.
As they should have. This thing was over at halftime. Alabama played as angry as I’ve ever seen them. They took out their frustration over Iron Bowl loss on Sparty big time.

If I recall correctly, Bama knocked out the starting MSU qb early in the game, then the 2nd, then the 3rd. There wasn't anyone left who could take a snap, so the wounded starter had to back in. This was an angry, merciless team at this point, and the next year's defense would be the best ever under Saban.

But Ohio st had NFL guys who could have slowed Clemson but not even the tides defense with a big lead could stop em
BAMA did way more than Ohio State did but that Clemson vs OH wasn’t supposed to be. OH cheated their win over Michigan to get there and got shown why earn those top spots and not just get put in them.
ScoDucks2019 Penn State is cursed. Whenever it finally seems like it’s there chance to make the playoffs they either lose in the B10 championship or some other team makes it by a miracle

While Saban was the coach at Bama his record against the Big10 was 8-2%. And while he never lost to a Big10 by more than 7, the games he win against the Big10 were usually blowouts. Big10 sucks.

Bama lost 3 games that year due to several injuries and 6 conference opponents all had a bye week before playing Alabama.
