Another fantastic and informative video, Chris. I have the FSX800c and am thinking of adding the 830c. Yamaha has certainly captured the entry-level market for most beg/int guitar players IMHO. I have several upper range guitars which I play most of the time but... when I'm noodling, I love my FSX800c. I also recommend the Yamaha line whenever I'm asked by friends "what do you recommend for my student or child?" I am subscribed to your channel. Happy New Year!!

The 830C seems considerably bigger, is that so? Or is it a trick of the camera angle?

    Hi Chris,
Much thanks for this review. You explained well what are the wood-wise and aesthetic differences between the two models.
The only feedback I have for you is, you should have played both models through mic and pickup system. For us it's hard to compare the sound when you play one with the amp and the other with the mic.
One thing I need to clarify from you is, I could not find the specs of FSX series in any of the Yamaha official websites. They only have the FGX series specs. Have Yamaha stopped producing the FSX800 series completely?

Ok. This guy doesn't want to let you hear the natural sound of BOTH guitars so I'll try. 830 has rosewood back n sides and 820 has mahogany instead so:
》830 sounds smoother/sweeter and when you strum it's not like 6 strings singing, but like one merged sound coming out and each string is "perfectly" combined with each other.
》820 sounds a bit... less smoother, a tiny bit louder and I would say bassier but I'm not sure. And it doesn't unites the notes as well as the 830 whem strumming.
I'd like if both were louder but they're pretty ok for their size. 820 is really good and I don't think you're going to be disappointed. If you don't mind on spending about 70$ more (I think), for a bit smoother sound, do it. My budget was 500 and I needed a guitar to take here and there in vocations and not my electric and amp, camples ect. so 820 was perfect for this 70$ less I payed
    Hope I helped

I went to the Yamaha web site and according to their specs the only difference between the two models is the 820C has Mahogany sides and back. The 830c has Rose wood sides and back. Both have solid Spruce tops. Everything else on their spec page was 100% identical. Oh and the 830c has abalone around the soundhole. I dont know how much sound difference there would be since i read somewhere that the sides and back only reflect the sound and the top is responsible for most of the sound.

    • @marciocintra2988

Rosewood back/sides and Mahogany back/sides have a different EQ response. Rosewood has a bassy response with crispy highs, while mahogany gives a more mid-range focused response, better for musicians in a bigger band setup, for example.
