I think things were going in a great direction till the leather was brought into the concept. I think a better idea would be create a panel in the same fabric style of the couch creating symmetry like borders that look like it was part of the original design. Fantastic prep work and sewing and everything up to the leather part though.

This is super useful, thank you! We had the same issue with our puppies, but ours is so much worse. People who are complaining about the look need to consider cost of doing it yourself vs. professional fix vs. purchasing a new couch.

OMG! You are a life saver with this video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We came home the other day to find our 1-year old husky had destroyed our couch arm, all the way to the wood. He isn't usually destructive, so this really surprised us. I cleaned it all up to access the damage and then I got to RUclips to see if anyone shared their quick fix. I found your video and was totally inspired. I knew in my head what I was going to do along with following your video. So, one day later I feel like I nailed it. It looks pretty good if I must say. Your video was great and got me motivated to fix what our pup had done. Thank you. Thank you.Thank you!!!!

I mean, the aesthetics are an entirely personal thing, so if you're loving this solution, congratulations on problem solving and finding a way to love your space again, that's honestly a really awesome accomplishment and more than a lot of people take initiative to do! So if you're happy, please accept my sincere compliments and ignore everything past this...
However, if you're just making do with this particular solution, I think this concept could actually make for a really cool, custom sofa if you tweaked your patches just a little bit. I actually love the idea of the leather, it's a very natural, rustic touch and I agree that if you can't match the existing fabric exactly, go the complete opposite direction and go contrasting. So I think the fabric choice is 👌 spot on!
But unfortunately, instead of looking modern and giving a sort of rustic, boho vibe, it turned out looking more like a kitchy patchwork quilt because of the haphazard placement and shaping. It doesn't look professional and custom, it looks very much like you're patching a hole.
When you first said leather patches, I was thinking a sort of distinct symmetrical patch on each arm, almost like elbow patches on a sweater, ya know? If you'd done a matching oval on each arm that mimics the effect of elbow patches, or if you'd done a square "cap" that capped off each arm, it would've looked really polished and professional, as if you'd just happened to find the coolest, most customized rustic couch.
Whatever the shape, I think just simply bringing some symmetry to it by matching the patches to one another so they're the same, that could do a whole lot for the overall look. That alone would help it look more thoughtful and intentional, rather than it looking like what it is: a patch on a hole. Either way though, I honestly commend you for finding such a resourceful and creative solution to your problem and for committing yourself to executing it!

You might want to try a Great Bay Home slipcover. They have a soft velvet feel. And look nice! Plus you pull it off and wash!! Or spot clean. I anchor mine with large one inche tacks under the couch so it doesn’t slip. Stays on great with kids and movement

Interesting that before watching the full video I was reading the comments and expecting your work to turn out awful, however, coming to the end of the video I am very pleased with your concept of imperfect, asymmetrical patching. Average people from the comment section prefer predictable work, “same color fabric” “symmetrical patching” and etc. bleh
    Congrats, I love it

I mean you did so much work to make it happen....cudos to you....I might consider adding a few more random pieces to make it look more designed....perhaps a piece or two n the back and another small piece to another cushion then toss on a rustic throw with it perhaps having a rustic element. But good job!

  • @georgebush6002

Vast improvement and what a cleaver fix. The only way I could have possibly liked it better is if the leather was cut in sections to lay more like the existing paneling and the piping was reproduced. That being said I love the finished product and have no idea if the piping is worth the trouble as I know very little about it.

It never looked good on the elbow of a man's sports jacket and it doesn't look any better on your couch. You would be wise to get the same color or put the cover back on it, or throw the couch out and buy a new one

The steps leading up to the patch were very helpful. But that's when it took a turn down the road I don't care for. To each their own.
