I like the idea of doing the backstitch just beyond the frayed threads to keep it from fraying further. That was very clever! I would've never thought to do that. I was actually searching for ideas to fix a frayed seam on my son's Renaissance Faire costume. Several demos use this same ladder stitch technique but none of them showed that first step.
My mother was a phenomenal seamstress and I learned from her. Old age and couldn’t remember any of my stitches. Thank you now I can make the much needed repairs. Things are way too expensive to just toss out now.
Been in the furniture repair trade and tride forever to find a way to stitch fabric that easily frays. Stumble upon this video and find my answer. Thanks for sharing. So clever.
@@heartymom9615 my manager and I talked about couch repair today, and she was like "yeah, yeah, the old tech used to sew the couch cuschions" so I guess I'm gonna get to try this out. And here I am hoping we could just get new covers, it is what it is :)
Thank you! I’ve got a jacket that this happened to but it’s lined and I need to be able to fix it from the “outside”. Clothes tutorials just turned the clothing inside out but I don’t have that option - I’m going to use your technique to fix it!
My dog really damaged my sofa. Very similar color and fabric as your chair. Can’t wait to try this. It will definitely save me time and money taking the whole thing to the repair shop! Thanks so much!

Wonderful!
So helpful! I would have had to pay $500 for this if I hadn’t done it myself.
